  1. It's from Drafttek. They actually consider him most valuable as a FS and then as a CB.
  2. Patrick Peterson is being touted as a potential safety as well. Everyone should hope Donte is re-signed so we don't draft a DB and then switch him to a position he has never played. Seriously though, this wouldn't surprise me...
  3. I disagree 100%. According to a Newsweek article writing about his departure from ESPN, Keith Olbermann was making 350,000$ at the end of his run in 1997. That's a long time ago, and since then, ESPN has grown tremendously. There's a reason why the top columnists are doing more appearances on TV and radio. If the 500$ per episode tag has increased from a few years ago, and those guys are doing roughly 150-200 appearances per year, that's over 100,000$ for 20 min or less of debate each day. It seems that's where the money is at.
  4. Are we talking just on ESPN or national newspapers or city newspapers? Because all the big networks/websites have cleaned out many of the best writers in the nation from their local papers. Regardless, TV is where the money is made, hence the reason why respected columnists go on Around the Horn. I remember reading a couple of years back that they initially received 500$ a show. I'm sure this has gone up since then. Also a reason why we are seeing more of Bill Simmons on TV now.
  5. True, but I think it's a different mindset when FO types move from team to team. The ultimate goal for a personnel guy is to become a GM and shape his own team. The ultimate goal for players is to win a Superbowl and get paid. The debate here is which one is more important. I think the Steelers players are generally the one's who put SB over paycheck and are willing to take a hometown discount. They've kept this current core together with Troy, Harrison, and Hampton all extended to big deals. Woodley seems like the last piece of their puzzle. Could be wrong, we'll see.
  6. Not to be a dbag, but guys don't leave Pittsburgh to come to Buffalo. Harris is a long-shot, but a more realistic possibility. There is also no reason why we would want Alex Smith. I gotta pass on that one.
  7. ding ding ding!!!!! The only excuse to not sign Whitner is to have to overpay to bring Harris in. He would instantly upgrade the D.
  8. It was a simple congrats to a journeyman backup getting to 3,000yds. Goebbels was not involved.
  9. But how is the management of the team and comments of the announcer related? Or do you really think Buddy Nix will take this comment into account when evaluating the roster at season's end?
  10. Or you go your route and say (and I'm paraphrasing) "nothing on this board ceases to amaze me anymore" whenever someone says something you disagree with. But to each their own... This is the big question. He should not get whatever he wants, the argument on the board seems to center on what we all think he is worth. 7 mil is not going to happen, so I think the magic number (and the obvious compromise to the 5mil/7mil rumors) is 5.5-6ish.
  11. Totally agree. But don't tell that to the posters who think George Wilson is a better SS, despite the fact he doesn't play that position. The only way you don't pay him a reasonable contract is because you're are planning on going after a David Harris or another free agent. However, because winning the lotto is more likely to occur before that happens, keep him. I can deal with people who opine that he sucks, thus should not be resigned. But those who are offering arguments based on money I don't buy. We are well below the cap, and no one to our knowledge is getting the shaft because money is going to Whitner. This contract will not hamstring us like many of the posters here believe.
  12. Yes, I know. But regardless of this, they have still sold out all their games this year. I don't buy the weather argument because teams that are good will sell out as long as the team is competitive (GB, Chicago, NE, NYJ, NJG Pitt). Anyhow, no biggie. I'm hitting the hay. Merry Christmas to everyone. Cheers, Stony
  13. They sold out all their home games. Do your freaking homework first. This is just bad.
  14. Yeah, because David Harris doesn't benefit from Bart Scott, Kris Jenkins, Shaun Ellis, etc. etc. etc...
  15. Getting David Harris allows us to get a starting DL and RT with our first two picks in the draft. I cannot put into words how huge this would be. The trickle-down affect in regards to other positions of need would instantly elevate both sides of the ball.
  16. Yup. Last week, w/o any numbers floating around i thought he was worth 5.5-6 per. I can deal with this. Give him some escalators in the contract that can take it to the upper echelon of safety contracts. it should be pretty safe on the Bill's part to ask him to get 4ints per.
  17. The locals get a kick out of a lot of things, namely 28pks of Labatt w/ free hats or pucks and wins. If we were to pound the rock to Caulrick, a stupid idea in its own right, how would Freddy get his 1000yds?
  18. Its called social networking. It's goal is to increase one's visibility to prospective fans and casual on-lookers. This is extremely important to professionals with a short career span. And regarding what one is having for dinner, I find it hypocritical to bash on this because I guarantee 10 out of 10 people would applaud Arthur Moats if he tweeted "Just got back from Duff's, those wings are awesome!!" But because it's Donte, people will bash him for anything. I think you using the word maturity is a bit off as well. It might be stupid in your opinion, but questioning one's maturity because they post personal things on Twitter is off base. Just remember, you get to choose who you want to follow.
  19. Since when did Cornell get the boot?
  20. Holy crap. David Nelson sounds exactly like Trent. Scary.
  21. You're right to an extent. But I'd like to see what an entire offseason with Fitz can do to help him change the way he runs some of his routes. The time Stevie and Fitz put in has certainly paid off. Lee strikes me as the type of guy that would take the advice a guy like Fitz gives him.
  22. They don't care if he plays in Buffalo or Indy. He's on of them, thats all that matters. If Yao went to the Grizzlies, half of China would have tuned in for Memphis games. Now Yao is much bigger than Ed Wang and basketball is more of a global sport than football, but don't underestimate the Chinese when it comes to pulling for one of their own.
  23. I think Whitner will play as strong, or stronger than he's done all year. He' not in the position, nor the type of player that mails in a performance. Especially with the crap that went down this week.
  24. Now I have to think about starting Oakland's Defense. I was set on the Pats D against a Rogers-less Packers, but now I don't know. Thanks for nothing Tim Tebow.
  25. +1. It's professional sports.
