Jairus Byrd: Jason Peters Part II?
BillsBackersChicago replied to Dawgg's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is such a crock, I'm so tired of people saying that a clutch play at the end of the game "won/saved" a game for us. A game is 60 minutes and every play (other than a kneel) makes a difference. Just cause you made a clutch play at the end does not mean you were the reason the game was won or saved. If you made that play or not missde the same play earlier in the game, maybe the end of the game wouldn't have been close at the end. BBC out. (yup, I said it). -
Rd 1, Pick #16: QB EJ Manuel - Florida St.
BillsBackersChicago replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just saw a little snippet of a Marrone interview on ESPN this morning, he said "there were a lot of good QBs in this draft, and I think they quarterbak class was underrated by many, we felt, collectively, as an organization, that he was the best fit for the buffalo bills". That whole "collectively, as an organization" makes me think that this was not a unanimous decision, possible Marrone wanted someone else and Nix was mushing EJ. That being said, if you watch the presser, Marrone seems to warm up to the EJ pick by the end of the video. Its a crapshoot, no one knows if he'll pan out, but I do think he has the most potential. Will it suck if Nassib or Smith or Barkley turn into superstars and EJ flames out? Sure. But man, it sure would be nice if the Bills were right for once and picked the best of the bunch. Many of the actual NFL talent evaluators (not former players that are now in the media like warner, but scouts and gruden) love the pick. Last thought, with EJ, we get a possibility of a home run, with Barkley and Nassib (and maybe even Geno) it seems like we get another average QB that end up being game managers, not game changers. Whatever, I am no expert, and its all just a crap shoot, at least there's some hope for greatness not acceptance of average. -
Steve Johnson lobbying potential free agents
BillsBackersChicago replied to cantankerous's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This should be the last time that any of the idiots on here talk crap about Stevie for not being a team player or the type of player we should all love as bills fans. He has given everything to the Bills, even when he could have walked for better money and a better team. He advocated and recruited for us last season, and he continues to do so this year. What other Bill is doing the same? Kid is all heart. Sure that gets him into trouble some time, with celebration penalties, but who among us is not more of a bills fan for "why so serious"? There's a reason why the guy that benched stevie is gone and stevie is still here, still propping the bills. Lord knows it would be a lot easier for him to complain and not fight for this team, but he hasn't. He catches alot more clutch balls than he drops (3rd down, tight coverage), so everyone should learn to appreciate the talent and heart that he brings to the team. All stevie, all the time. -
Would the OP be offended if the comments were about a QB he intended to pick in the 3rd round? Cause it says nothing in his quote on using the 1st round pick on this QB that has strengths and weaknesses. Personally I think you got a case of....

BREAKING: Bills release Nick Barnett
BillsBackersChicago replied to SBUffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok, so I agree that # of tackles is a fairly useless stat. I only mentioned it because it was the ONLY ONE I could find being used to grade LBs. If eyeballing is the only way to judge a LB, then I agree, he looked like he got beat up pretty often last year (although I am not sure I feel as down on him as some of you), but I gotta believe that the decision to keep or jettison someone is based on something more objective that eyeball e v a l. I mean, this is the team of analytics right? If you are an NFL coach or scout, then maybe you can just eyeball, but is there a truly OBJECTIVE way for the average shmoe to grade LBs? And please don't respond by saying you just know by watching. I can do that, you can do that, JP losman's grandma can do that, but the questions is what happens when you disagree. And just because the other people at the bar agree doesn't make it more objective. Again, I am not trying to be argumentative, I am just asking if anyone out there knows of a good objective way to evaluate LBs. As fans of a team severely lacking in LBs, I feel like we should all be asking this question so that we can evaluate the talent out there. ---------------- Okay, although it may look like the same post, I posted the above and then learned the following which I tried to post, and which got merged into my previous post. Consider this my follow up post ___________________ ACtually, this may help, its still subject to some personal bias, (not a collection of stats that spits out a number), but I suppose you could apply a grade to each criterion and get a number based rating system out of it. Linked below is scouts, Inc. grading system for college LBs, and links to the criteria they use for other positions as well. Unfortunately, both the ILB and OLB links list the evaluation criteria for ILB, but its a nice way that you could go back to tape and make a somewhat objective opinion on LB play. And yes, I just answered my own question. http://sports.espn.g...tory?id=2350653 -
BREAKING: Bills release Nick Barnett
BillsBackersChicago replied to SBUffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just what statistic are you basing this off of. I am not asking because I definitively disagree, just that I don't know. I ask because I looked online and the only stat that people use to grade linebackers is tackles and he led our team in tackles, was 29th in the league and 13th in the AFC? Is there some other better ranking that I can look at? With all due respect, if its just based on ur eyeballing him, your very definitive statement should be taken with a grain of salt. That being said, he did not play as well last year as he did the year before. I just don't know how everyone is coming to this conclusion that HE was the worst (because I know, its not just you). -

BREAKING: Bills release Nick Barnett
BillsBackersChicago replied to SBUffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I was just telling a friend, Barnett and Wilson were the two leading tacklers on the Bills defense last year. Also, they are the ONLY two buffalo players in the top 40 of all NFL players last year in tackles (Barnett 29, Wilson 35). And before you say its because they were only getting tackles because they play behind a bad line, everyone on the list was either a LB or a safety. As others have alluded to, I know they were not great last year, but until we have someone to replace them, seems preemptive to let them go. I guess I understand if its a cap issue, but when does the cap need to be settled by? Oops, just saw nitro's post after I posted mine. sorry to repeat the top tacklers stat -
QB Matchmaker (bucky brooks article)
BillsBackersChicago replied to BillsBackersChicago's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This whole Wilson has big hands and Wilson has small hands thing is making me dizzy, time to start using first initials or initials in general, i.e. RW has big hands, TW has small hands (and no I'm not referring to ralphie, who is still cheap, but lovable). Hey, does anyone know what Russ Brandon's salary is (assuming ralph is cheap)? -

QB Matchmaker (bucky brooks article)
BillsBackersChicago replied to BillsBackersChicago's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you in principle, but I have a general problem with everyone gushing over these mobile QB's like Wilson, RG3, Kaepernick. I agree they lit things up this year, but so did Vick two years ago, and Newton one year ago, and everyone was gushing the way they are for these 3 this year. The following year for both of these two, their production was nowhere nearly as impressive, and Vick looks like he might be getting run out of town. I think as defensive coordinators watch more tape, they learn how to neutralize these guys. Again not saying these guys will not be great, but a single season does not a career make. -

Not sure if this was already posted (did a search for QB matchmaker and bucky brooks and didn't come up with anything on TSW). Anyways, decent read, Bucky Brooks presents his rationale for which QB will go to which team and why they would be a good fit. Of course this is only based on his thoughts, not expert NFL scout analysis, but it seems like a reasonable matchup. Has us matching up with Tyler Wilson for his ability to read at the line, and possibly run a K-gun. Link -

i Know its been said already, but this thread seriously has crayonz written all over it. REVEAL YOURSELF!!! -
I agree with ur premise that life isn't fair and to some extent, u have to deal with it to keep ur sanity, but that doesn't mean we should be complacent and not outraged by acts of injustice or "bullying". This guy should have contacted some big nonprofit small business rights group. We, as fans and "normal" people, should spread this guys story, so that if nothing else it acts as a public skidmark on the nfl's face. They hate bad press, and if it makes 10 people not by a superbowl jersey, they will have lost alot more money than they have gained by screwing this guy over. God forbid they actually statt using Harbowl for marketing or promotional stuff, thr people buying it should know how they are screwing this guy over. Trademark doesn't mean jack in the realm of public opinion if everyone knows u cheated/bullied someone out of their intellectual property.

Jamarcus Russell Making a Comeback
BillsBackersChicago replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
308 lbs? So we're gonna go with the mobile QB model this year, huh? In all seriousness, if he can get himself into true game shape by the time training camps start, that would be pretty darn impressive, and I suppose he would be worth a tryout (no harm), but it seems like we would be setting ourselves up for disappointment again. As long as it does not prevent us from going down the path of pusuing QB's from the draft or FA, i guess we might as well. I know I don't know anything about Marrone, but this type of project doesn't really seem his style. -

Glad someone else caught that. -
In two days, I have had to look up two words written on this godforsaken (like how I incorporated the subject material) board that I did not know the meaning of: proselytizing and now abiogenesis. I am thinking that either you guys are getting too damn smart, or I am getting decidedly dumber. It might be from reading some of the posts on here, but wow, you guys and your fancy words.

That website is arguably the dumbest thing i've ever seen. I wasted my time going through all the links only to be brought to a page which predicated the entire argument on the following completely and unsubstantiated statement. "Universal, immaterial, unchanging laws cannot be accounted for if the universe was random or only material in nature." Now i know that I was the idiot that took the bait and decided to click through that nonsense (it was that or going back to work), but come on!! Dammit man, if ur gonna try and argue ur point, find some better substantiating resources!!

The Perfect WR...what we need
BillsBackersChicago replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fergy, I will admit that I didn't see all of the game, but most of the end zone throws to Bolden were not off target throws that he had to go up and get, they were thrown exactly on target, and meant to be thrown to a spot where only the big tall strong receiver would have the good chance at the ball (or more of a chance than the DB). As for SJ not catching off target balls, I could not disagree more. He had more than one ridiculous one handed catches this year. I can't remember the game, but it was toward the end of the season, and he layed out for a poorly thrown pass, caught it one handed, and then stood up, spun the ball and went back to the huddle (we were losing so he was all business). I agree that DJ almost never wins a one on one battle and TJ probably can't given his size (its not what he's meant to do), but Nelson is a bigger receiver who has fought for his share of passes (as has Chandler). The one pass that almost no receiver can catch easily is the one that's behind him as he runs a crossing route, and Fitz threw those all season. when our receivers were able to make the adjustment for the throw being behind them, they often had to slow dow or stop their routes, effectively killing their YAC, but when they were in full sprint, there's just nothing they or anyone else could do. We have a lot of problems and I think a big super talented #1 WR (in the mold of Bolden, AJ Green, Megatron, etc.) would be nice, but you can't say SJ didn't fight for balls that were not well thrown. -
Congrats, eball!
