  1. I hope Shanahan fails miserably in Washington. Every indication is that he will. When was the last time a coach really succeeded there? He used the Bills to set his starting price knowing Washington was interested. Of course they took the bait. Plus-He just looks like a total doosh to me...I dont like the cut of his jib...and Im Irish!
  2. The media I work with actually like The Bills, or at least dont dislike them. Dont feel bad that we arent getting good coverage. How much attention is Kansas City, Cleveland, Tampa, Detroit and so on getting? St Louis is only mentioned beacuse they had the #1 pick in Bradford. Doesnt matter what team/city you are...No one cares about you until you win or have guys who stir the pot like T.O. last season. The Bills need to come out and punch Miami in the damn mouth in the opener and run the ball down their throats. That will get everyone's attention! Squish Tha Fish!
  3. Pretty much what the Buffalo Braves did, traded away their best players in order to field as bad a product as possible. They wanted the fans to go away. The intention of The Braves was to see their season ticket base drop below a certain number which triggered an escape clause allowing the team to relocate to San Diego. The Braves were actually quite good, and had some excellent young talent but the owner wanted to move the team originally to Florida, then chose California. They were able to get out of Buffalo in about 2 seasons...Have The Bills been trying to do the same thing for about 10 years, but with no luck because we just blindly come back year after year? I think a case could be made and would be an interesting post. So many ill advised decisions seem to point in that direction. However- Wilson could have easily just up and said..."Screw it, we're outta here!".....I personally think the guy does care about his legacy, and prefers the Bills remain The "Buffalo" Bills long after he's gone. I have to think something has been done to protect that legacy in the form of a succession plan that keeps them in WNY...(We all know essentially nothing of this, and probably for good reason)...Now that he's in the HOF, he should be even more inclined to protect his name/family legacy, otherwise the guy's bust in Canton will look like Jim Morrisson's grave in Paris with angry Bills fans coming thru year after year!
  4. Come on now! Nothing wrong with being excited about last nights performance! Spiller looked great, in fact he reminds me of a young LaDanian Tomlinson. The Chargers succesful run in the 2000's started when they drafted LT. He was the first important piece they aquired when building a winner. The rest of the puzzle came together afterwards with some smart drafting an dlucky breaks. Nix was involved in that building process. Perhaps they are replicating that blueprint in WNY. Not a bad blueprint.....SD has been solid 9 straight years and counting. GO BILLS!!!!
  5. Someone did a very cool mock up version of a reconfigured Ralph, similar to what was done in Green Bay. That might cost $275 million to add on.... I never hear anything about a lease renewal...has anyone? This team doesnt share any info...ticket sales #, long term plans for staying put, new stadium , or redesign...The news media doesnt go after it or get answers either. If the Bills were my wife Id ask for a divorce...This is a dysfunctional relationship!
  6. You're entirely wrong, the attendance number is critical to the entire TV rights deal that the NFL owners brokered. If Buffalo is a market that doesnt sell out the stadium seating, then the market is blacked out, the advertisers spots are not seen in a large tv market, and the team is then seen by the TV side (Which is where the majority of dollars come to NFL) as a weaker market putting The Bills in more jeopardy of relocation than not selling "local" luxury seats in the Ralph. The luxury seats in small markets like Buffalo dont affect the TV deal and ad buys. Ralph doesnt need to sell luxury seats like Jerry Jones and the two NY teams do to cover their huge nut. Ralph isnt trying to finace a stadium.Sure- Jones and company would like it if Buffalo sold more so they didnt need to share their revenues but if you dont think filling up every seat in that stadium is important, your crazy. That is what will keep the team here, and persuade another owner to keep them here too
  7. In 2009 The Buffalo Bills are ranked as the #10 team in Attendance per ESPN and Forbes. That is DAMN good...BUT- Bear in mind, that is with only 7 games being counted. If you add in the 8th game (Last year vs. NY Jets in Toronto) that is an additional 70,000 seats filled, moving the Bills up to #7 in attendance. That is very g-Damn good for a team that has sucked for 10 years...Again I point to 2 things...The Bills are a proven brand name commodity that sells-Always. If they were to become The Toronto Bills or LA Bills, there is ZERO guarantee that the brand sells like they have in Buffalo for 50 years...bad economy aside...The Bills franchise in Buffalo makes sense. Second, if this team begins winning again....They will be the #3 or #4 in attendance each year and people would pay more $ for tickets for a winner...that is a proven fact.
  8. This was from yesterday's afternoon show. It is a fairly broad interview, as most SoCal listeners probably dont know too much about what is going on in Buffalo. As insignificant as some people would have you believe The Bills are on a national level...it aint completely true. We have a huge fan base spread out across the globe. You know who is insignificant on a national level? The Chiefs, the Browns, Tampa, and St Louis. Granted they sucked worse than us last year...You are only really significant when you are winning.
  9. Link to conversation between Lee Hacksaw Hamilton and Allen Wilson Of Buffalo News. This is from XX Sports Radio 1090AM in San Diego. Again, we get better Bills talk in San Diego than WGR in Buffalo! I'll keep posting Bills interviews from out west.... http://www.xxsportsradio.com/common/global...io/40/21027.mp3
  10. Look, the product on the field is probably better than the product on the radio. People tune in because they want to hear BUFFALO sports-good or bad...In fact, we've found out here that years when The Padres sucked...ratings went up...Why you ask? Because it is a great time to let callers vent. Makes people feel better I guess. We do not carry The Chargers games. It is similar to Buffalo in that it is on a FM Rock station-Rock 105.3...But we still talk about them all daylong because it is what the listeners want. Stop excepting mediocrity and e-mail the program director and tell him you want better...(Dont bother the advertisers though...that isnt cool-They are still supporting local sports and your hometown teams in a tough economy). Bills looked bad Friday , but I still am optimistic that they can be a hard nosed smash mouth team. Gonna take some time until they reach their stride...Go Bills!
  11. The line sucked too...AND....The guy hasnt really played in a year. But that was not pretty.
  12. That's pretty funny!
  13. Not sure Ralph has a plan (I was hoping he would tell us he did last year during his induction at HOF in Canton as it would be the right thing to do...At least tell me that you are trying like hell to make certain the team remains in Buffalo for a very long time)...Anyways, it would be very expensive to buy and move the team, but it could still easily be done....Point is this...The Bills are a brand. A succesful consumer brand that has a loyal following that buy into that brand every year for the past 50 years. If the Bills could win, the brand becomes more valuable but thats another story...It isnt wise to gamble on taking a succesful brand like the Bills and moving them and changing the identity (see "NEW" Coke). Dont buy into the BS everyone spews about Buffalo is dying/too small etc....It doesnt matter...Goodell and The NFL want the Bills in WNY so long as they continue to have clients buying into the brand (tickets, merchandise etc). LA and Jacksonville are proof that not all cities are a sure shot of success in the NFL. Even The Raiders with all of their tradition couldnt get more than 30-40,000 people to come out last season. The Bills were #7 in attendance last year in 7 games, you average out the attendance and add that number to an 8th game that we lost to Toronto and we become #4 in attendance! And that was for arguably the worst Bills on field product of the past 25 years! If Buffalo slips big time in attendence you may be in trouble...But for now...The Bills are a proven commodity and I do not think they will be relocating. If they begin winning again...watch out! Lastly, the Bills are a team that a lot of people actually like (or at least dont hate) I get that a lot from people out here. People pull for The Bills and seem to like us, maybe because of tradition, maybe because we are a small market underdog/ blue collar town/team. Anyways, I get a lot of positive feedback and The Bills bar in San Diego crams in about 150 Bills fans each weekend for games-every year-win or lose...We outnumber Bears Eagles Giants Dallas bars and so on by a mile...Only one that beats us is Pittsburgh, and it aint by much!Go Bills-Cant wait!
  14. Exactly! People have been beating up on this guy for the last year plus, saying how much he sucks and what a wuss he is. Folks, Please keep this in mind... 1)Dick Jauron, Alex Van Pelt ,Turk Shonert-Whoever-SUCKED as coaches. They had no business being in the NFL. They tried to install a no huddle attack with zero offensive line or experience running it. They could not have been more predictable. The 3 and outs were killing the defense too as they were always on teh field...Unbelievably stupid, desperate move by a useless and stupid coach-Thank God he is gone-He SUCKED, and it reflected on Edwards! 2) Think back to the 2008 seasons first 6 games. Everyone thought we had finally found our own Tom Brady in Edwards. He won five of six games to start the season, including great comeback wins against Oakland and ST Louis. The Arizona game was a debacle, but they came back and beat a good San Diego team right afterwards. Things went to hell after the Cleveland game...But dont forget the way Edwards hustled and beat up on Kansas City and most importnatly the HUGE comeback win vs Denver up in Colorado. Last year was a debacle of mass proportions. How they won 6 games is a mystery, but this guy has NEVER had a fair shake and he deserves it. He has shown flashes of big potential and even the national media saw that potential in Edwards and liked him in 2007 and 2008. Like Alex Smith in San Fran, Edwards deserves another shot behind a good coach (and hopefully decent line)...so until proven otherwise this upcoming season...Move on from calling him a wuss, etc and give him a shot. He's your starting QB. If you want to call someone a sissy/wuss...go after Sanchez, or Henne...they havent done damn thing to show they are any better than the QB we have in Buffalo. 2010 is a clean slate for this guy so lets get behind him...He might just be really good. We just dont know for sure yet.
  15. I work for a sports talk station in San Diego called XX Sports 1090 AM. WGR is NOT a good station. People back in Buffalo dont seem to know the difference as it is all they get. I have contacted the program director at WGR and urged him to listen to our station to get a better handle on how to schedule guests, features, etc...No reply! Trust me, Id rather listen to Bills and Sabres talk than Padres and Chargers, but those guys on WGR are bush league, especially Shopp And Bulldog. Those guys wouldnt even get a spot on Sunday Nights 12 mid to 6am out here... WGR cant even get any decent Bills interviews...We had Buddy Nix and Trent Edwards on our station out here in San Diego talking about the Bills...I have to listen to San Diego Sports talk to get Bills info! I used to stream WGR, but rarely do now...Those guys are just sooo boring in mid day/afternoons....Anyways if you get bored enough check us out online at www.xx1090sandiego.com . Jim Rome started his career here when we were XTRA Sports 690 in the 90's. The owner John Lynch Sr. knows how to find talent. WGR needs help in that department.
  16. Great. This reminds me of when Fred Smerlas wanted out of Buffalo in the mid 80's to go play for a "Conetnder". He left and never won anything after that, and The Bills began their reign of dominance in The AFC the very first season without him. If history can repeat itself then the Bills are on the verge of excellence once again!
  17. Typical negative, defeatist attitude that permeates out of Buffalo....For all of you who are convinced that The Bills are outta there in the near future, you may want have a bit more hope. Iknow you might just be bracing for the worst, but the one thing people seem to always overlook is this. The "Buffalo Bills" brand is a proven commodity...simply put -It sells consistantly, over and over again. It has loyal customers who stay with this product. The NFL knows this. The NFL also knows that other certain brands do not perform as well....Like Jacksonville, The LA Raiders, The LA Rams an dso on. Just because you put a team somewhere doesnt mean it is guaranteed success. I work in pro sports. The NFL wants a team in WNY as it has proven effective for 50 + years. Quit being so damn pessimistic about the team leaving all the time. You'd be surprised to know how unlikley it is that the Bills would become a team identified for re-location. The NFL is greedy. They might make more money moving The Bills, BUT there is zero guarantee. There IS, however a guarantee that they will in WNY...Stay positive!
