  1. You've got to ask the question, if it's so strategically important for the NFL to have a franchise in the 2nd biggest media market in the country why is it taking so many years to act on? Clearly it's not really a priority of the league's ownership.

I think it's strategically more important for the NFL to have the THREAT of moving a team to LA more than actually having a team in LA. It gives existing teams all sorts of leverage. Look what just happened in Minnesota.

That said, when this topic pops up every 3-6 months or so, it's a serious bummer. My head says that, for many reasons, it won't happen. But my heart has that twinge of doubt and fear. As fans we have had our hearts ripped out of our chests and stomped on so many times before.

  2. In addition to what everyone else has said, the Iggles took an offensive line coach, Juan Castillo, and made him their defensive coordinator, a move largely received with a resounding "WTF?"

We have yet to play a down with him as DC, but I think everyone can agree Wanny beats Juanny every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

  3. I just have to wonder what kind of "heart ailment" he could have had that only sidelined him for a year. Major surgery and rehab is one thing, but issues with the ticker are serious business. Any more medically inclined TBDers have any ideas? To my knowledge, exactly what he had going on was never made public, right?

  4. Just another idea of the media drumming up a story based solely upon their own beliefs and without any evidence. The Bills have stated Young was brought in only as a backup and we don't have a cagey FO or HC; they mean what they say. No reason to even pay attention to it.

Exactly. This story was going to be written no matter where Vince Young landed.

  5. I think someone posted an article about this recently. Under the new CBA, 3rd rounders are actually becoming complicated to sign. Something about 1st and 2nd rounders being slotted and their salaries predictable. Then also something about 4-7 being quicker to negotiate with because they really don't get much at all, relatively speaking.

So 3rd rounders fall somewhere in the middle between "Gettin' PAID" and "Lucky to Be Here." While they don't end up making crazy money, they're scrapping for whatever they can get.

  6. Golfing mechanics and throwing mechanics are not even close to the same things. Throwing is a much more natural motion and golfing goes against the natural kinetics of the body. I've never heard of a QB going David Duval one day.

You're right that golf and throwing mechanics are very different, but overhand throwing is NOT a natural motion, ask any orthopedic surgeon. Our arms are not designed to move that fast, in that direction, over and over and over again. It's why pitchers' shoulders and elbows always break down.

  7. I don't know, pro athletes seem to tweak their mechanics all the time, especially pitchers and hitters in baseball. Sure, old habits are hard to break, but these aren't weekend warriors we're talking about. They're highly paid professionals who can put their entire focus into something as seemingly mundane as the angle of your arm in a throwing motion.

Sure, some of the pros are better at adjusting mechanics than others, but everything we know about Fitz says that he's not just smart. He's a humble guy with a good deal of humility who had to work against all kinds of lowered expectations to get where he is today. I don't think his ego will be getting in the way of adjusting his mechanics and improving his game.

  8. If there's one thing Fitz is world class at, it's taking information and synthesizing it. Like how Chan has said he only ever needs to explain things to him once and he's got it down. (He's a pretty smart guy. Went to Harvard, dontcha know.)

If he can translate that to his mechanics in his work with Coach Lee, that can only mean good things.

“It’s not something I’m going to have to get used to, it’s just a number,” Williams said. “I look at it like it’s a new day, a new chapter in my career, so I’m changing things up a bit.”

Good for him. The superstition and attachment players have for numbers can be a little ridiculous sometimes.
