  1. eball's living the club life now. That could very well have been his overture to buying the team. After all, the real prospects keep quiet, right?
  2. Well, you know what they say. $100M here, $100M there, add it all up and pretty soon you're looking at a lot of money.
  3. For what it's worth, I asked my season ticket rep about it, and he said ST holders will get an email soon with instructions for getting training camp tickets.
  4. I'm with you. They don't meet in public to actually discuss anything. They meet in public to create a stir. This is like how LA is more valuable to the league as a threat for a move instead of an actual move. I personally believe, and I am not an expert by any means, but the very special 501c6 non-profit status the NFL enjoys (which is unlike any of the other sports leagues, as discussed elsewhere on this board) would be a SIGNIFICANT hurdle to overcome for a franchise to either relocate or be created in Canada. It could even be looked at as a good reason why a Canadian NFL franchise doesn't exist yet. I don't think a city the size of Toronto (4th largest metro area in N. America) all of the sudden popped up on the NFL's radar screen in the last few years. Every other sports league has had a presence in Canada for the last 25+ years at minimum (NBA) to 100+ years (NHL). Again, I don't pretend to be an expert. But I think there are some serious challenges to the NFL having a team in Canada. But the perception that a team could be relocated there is enough to get the public in a tizzy.
  5. Ooh! Ooh! I'm in! I've got about 70 marks sitting in a drawer from a trip to Germany 20 years ago.
  6. I agree. It would seem once all the other owners are let in on it, that's too many people in the know for it to stay contained. Can anyone recall how previous franchise purchases have gone? Has info leaked before formal approval?
  7. Just think happy thoughts, man. This time period right now, various deities willing, we'll be telling our kids and grandkids funny stories about decades from now. Holy crap, I could probably order 500,000,000 Best Buy gift cards and then just turn around and return the team. Cha-ching!
  8. Hm... I have a corporate AMEX card... I could probably get away with owning the team for at least a couple of months before the bean-counters notice anything.
  9. He's been on top of this whole story from the beginning. Whatever his connections are, they must improve with the exchange rate.
  10. In honor of the World Cup, I think every result should be a 0-0 draw.
  11. Kinda like that kid who stowed away in the landing gear of that flight to Hawaii. After the fact, they were all: "Good news, we caught him on surveillance video sneaking onto the tarmac..." OK, not sure how that's GOOD news. Is nobody watching a bank of screens live??
  12. The valuation, etc, from the bank should be coming soon, right? Wasn't it predicted to be by the end of the month?
  13. Jerto. I like it. Can't spell Jerto without jerk.
  14. There's a certain irony in a solar panel plant being built in one of the cloudiest regions of the country.
  15. I am deeply offended by your snark and irreverence. This is the Internet, and there is no room for buffoonery or jackassitude on the Internet. It is a place meant only for high-minded discussion, Socratic meandering through the complex issues of our time, and cat videos. As the final arbiter if what is and isn't funny, I speak for everyone when I say you are not funny.
  16. You can't own a national soccer team without owning the whole country, silly. So La Peligula is going to buy the United States of America. And then move it to Hamilton, which was named after Former President Alexander Hamilton, so it's cool.
  17. I encourage you to make use of the search function. This topic has been broached numerous times, and the board unanimously agrees that no, he can not.
  18. The way players take dives drives me nuts. At least the NHL enforces "embellishment" penalties. Also the fact that there is only one referee running up and down, they miss so many freaking calls. (Like Ireland getting screwed out of a WC berth in 2010 on a blatant French handball.) Yes, I know there are side judges, but they only call offsides and out of bounds.
  19. Then TBD shuts down. Check the ToS you accepted when you signed up. Seriously though, the overwhelming and uncharacteristically positive feelings in this thread, plus Wawrow's cautionary words up thread make me worry Pegula is exactly what's not going to happen.
