Football for a Buck: The Story of the USFL
RevWarRifleman replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You did pretty good though. After all it folded over 30 years ago, plus, some of those teams jumped to different cities, re-maned themselves, or just plane folded after a year or 2. -

Not bad, there's a few that you left out. But you were game to try. -

Without looking it up, can anybody name all the USFL teams? I wanted the USFL to fold because I wanted the Bills to have Kelly. I was elated with the court's decision! -
Inspiration for Allen: Jim Kelly’s First Game
RevWarRifleman replied to Jukester's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree K-9. Not only he had no knees to move during his career, but he also played where receivers could literally be mugged down field as well other jabbing & hooking plus shots to the head that's been ruled illegal long after his time. Also K 9, thanks for the input. -
Inspiration for Allen: Jim Kelly’s First Game
RevWarRifleman replied to Jukester's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree man. But I have argued this to many here on the board for years, and all I get from the "Namath doesn't belong in the HOF" people is that his stats are too weak to justify his being in the Hall. I think, most of these nay-sayers may be a younger generation fans that didn't live in that time. He had a huge impact on the game & mostly, helping the AFL to become a legit league. I think that most of the people that didn't live in that time period, miss all of this. Getting into the HOF is not just about stats. It's also about the impact on the game the guy made during his playing days. on a side note about the stats argument: it would be like saying Washington doesn't deserve to be revered as a soldier because he lost more battles than he won. Really? -

Comparing Jim to Joe Namath? But 26, Namath "doesn't belong" in the Hall where Jim is. -

Yeh Buftex, you better put nuggets in quotes with games from those 2 years. -

You got a better memory than I. Those seasons were highly forgetable. -

Amen brother. Those two guys were bad. Some Bills trivia: Mathison was the last qb before Kelly arrived. The rest is history. -

You forgot Joe Dufek. Of course, that would be easy to do being the qb during part of that 1984-85 Bills. Back to back 2-14 seasons! If you thought Sunday's performance was bad, that's how the Bills were back then on a week to week basis!! They just flat out stunk. Who was the Bills qb during those "scab" games back in '86? or '87 was it? Would he count in this thread? -
Pre Season's Over, Post Your W/L Prediction
RevWarRifleman replied to RevWarRifleman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well it looks like all who care to respond to this topic have done so. Lots of good analysis were made about the team going into this 2018 season. I think it would be interesting to look at this thread at the halfway mark, after the first NE game, and see what prognosticators came the closest so far. The W/L ranges from just 2 wins to as many as 14! See you around Halloween Bills fans. -
Going to the mattresses: Josh Allen edition
RevWarRifleman replied to FeelingOnYouboty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I liked the pick when the Bills made it. Mainly because of the measure-ables (height, arm strength...). Figured they could work him in gradually over this year & next. But after seeing him in preseason with his coolness in the pocket, arm strength & foot speed, I was impressed. I knew we picked a winner. Sure, he's going to make some mistakes in regular season games, that's all part of the learning curve. Ask Peyton Manning. -

MTB, I like the breakdown by unit + coaching. Yes, I think there's going to be some ugly play during the season. I put 7 wins because I think, for the first time in a lot of years, we have better head coaching, even though we have more holes this year than last. Go Bills. -

Freddie, I like the committment here and the spirit shown with the Jags pick!! -
Yes we've had these already, but that was, if I recollect correctly, during Tng Camp/ Preseason. All that dust has settled. 53 man roster is set. Make your predictions now. You can go into as much detail as you want, or just put the number of wins down & be done with it. Whatever you want. So with that, I'm going to say: 7 wins. I might explain later, I don't know.

"Big Name" cuts around the league...
RevWarRifleman replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well said Marv. I've enjoyed this conversation. FWIW, if you'd be interested in meeting someplace halfway between northern Chesterfield & Enon, I'd be up for that. Have a great Labor Day weekend. Go Bills! We got a though opening stretch of the season, hope it goes well. -

Yes, you do know where Cold Harbor battlefield is? About Enon, I used to drive through there on my way to doing some white water canoeing in the Appomatox Riv., sometimes after a day of teaching in Chester. It was a Great run! There were 2 sets of rapids there. Lots of fun!! That spot was only about 20 mins from the school. This is great! Never thought I'd be talking about this stuff on the Bills message board. -

I know what you mean there too. Thanks for taking the high road about teachers not getting support from parents and such. Your original response could have been interpreted different ways. But you clarified it well with your follow response. Thanks again, man. Yes, I'm a transplant too. Came down here in '78 (the year the Bills drafted U of Rich. Jeff Nixon) Knew nobody, had no job, a junker for a car, and $250 bucks in my pocket. This question just popped up in my mind. Do you know about the Cold Harbor battlefield, east of Richmond? -
