  1. It's amazing how black and white people are on this.
  2. We really need a thread for discussion of other QB options. I imagine Whaley has a list of QBs he prefers over Tyrod, and will go after said list in whatever way he can before the deadline to keep Tyrod comes up. If he doesn't get anyone, he keeps Tyrod. It's pretty simple, really. I fully support this.
  3. Any player worth keeping understands the business of this decision. Tyrod comes off as level headed, I'm sure he understands it, and understands he's not the best QB in the league either.
  4. I'm on board with keeping the offense as is, and focusing on fixing the defense. I do not think the offense is perfect, but it's certainly good enough to win with an average defense. --- 3 and outs, and 2 minute drill are the two biggest problems with the offense, imo.
  5. I'm of the opinion that EJ would be a viable starting QB if he was developed properly. Hell, he still might turn out to be that way somewhere. Great? Probably not. Alex Smith like? Sure. I actually liked what I saw from EJ under Roman/Lynn (yes, even the Jax game, with the 5 minutes of terror). Do I keep him over Tyrod though? Probably not. Tyrod is safer, at least with this offense. We'd be in the playoffs with this offense, and a marginally better defense.
  6. Yeah, it really comes down to being reasonable about our options. A good QB isn't exactly common, there's what 10? in the league, maybe? So if one isn't clearly available, and you have the cap space, then why not keep Tyrod... unless you are expecting the defense to stay horrible, or are planning to completely tank.
  7. Arguably, Tyrod is pretty average. Good at some things, bad at other things, overall pretty average. There's a good chunk of starting QBs I'd take Tyrod over. There's a good chuck of QBs I'd take over Tyrod.
  8. Personally, I think something like ANY/A from Profootball reference is a better indicator of production. Just measuring total yards doesn't really tell you everything, since two equally talented QBs could be ranked different depending on play calling. ANY/A rankings have Tyrod at 9th and 19th, averaging out to just about average. Which, the eye test tells me lines up. This year is down, imo, partially due to missing WRs for multiple games, especially deep threats. Do I think Tyrod is a guy who can carry a bad defense? No. Do I think he is a guy that can win with an average to good defense? Yes. We have talent on the defensive side (at least I think so). If our new DC can convince the FO that the defense will improve, I could see Tyrod coming back.
  9. What this does: - Protects the Bills options regarding Tyrod - Lets the Bills/Lynn/Whaley have one last look at EJ (will help decide his future here as well) - Let EJ have an opportunity to 'try out' one last time before hitting the FA market - Protects Cardale from being thrown into the fire when he isn't ready, and will possibly be learning a new offense next year anyways All in all, a safe move. I don't see how anyone can be upset about this.
  10. I don't think it guarantees that Tyrod is gone, it just guarantees that the Bills have the option to move on, if the new HC isn't feeling it. Personally, I don't think Tyrod is 'the guy', but he is talented, and better than anyone else we have available to us right now. Unless we're feeling *really* optimistic about a draft pick or Cardale, I could see him returning.
  11. If we keep the offense in tact, and find a DC to improve the defense, we'll be in good shape. Hopefully that's what Whaley/Pegula are aiming at.
  12. Marrone's offense sucked, and Schwartz isn't coming along. This is stupid.
  13. Says that the players are soft, and the scheme terrible.
  14. Only if a new defense is brought in.
  15. Nope. I have a feeling our record in close games over the last 16 years is pretty miserable.
  16. Ah the yearly 'but injuries and refs' excuse.
  17. The only thing you force on the new HC is 'playoffs within two seasons, or you're fired'... which likely means no one will take the HC job, unless they desperate to be employed.
  18. I like Rex, I wish he was successful. Fact is, the defense is losing us games, and the defense is his baby. It was better with much of the same squad before he got here. He needs to go, unfortunately. Hopefully we can keep the offense going, when he goes. Because if we get a new HC that fixes the defense, and our offense falls apart, I'm going to kick puppies.
  19. !@#$ Rex and !@#$ the defense and !@#$ Carpenter. Good game on offense. Good game by Taylor. Merry !@#$ing Christmas, losers.
  20. Wasted TO, players not being aware of the playclock, subs coming in slow, poor play calls, poor pass choices, poor FG kicking. Classic.
  21. A Billsy Christmas indeed
  22. Give this team a moderately better defense and we're in the playoffs this year, so I could see us going this route. Just need to get a solid DC.
  23. Why does Pegula get a pass? He should be fired too, while we're at it.
  24. I heard Whaley was the only GM to miss on Dak.
