for the last few Bills seasons i wondered to myself and friends what it would be like to be the teams coach, what dick jauron was thinking and finally if they would ever hire a miscreant stoner off the streets. After deliberation we decided they wouldnt hire me, dick jauron was thinking about the opera, and finally that it would be awesome to be the coach of N Americas team... enter chan gailey, the offensive minded coach who inherits a very young, quite talented group, and gets to pick (basically, save eight of em) any player he covets in the nation. the offensive minded coach doesnt take dan williams, nose tackle. No he doesnt draft an anchor of an offensive lineman or a big fast reciever. He doesnt reach for a qb that might have gone in the fourth round in a different draft year or take a shot on another smallish defensive lineman. Instead he picked what he wanted, the apple of his eye, the same guy he watched gash his georgia tech team firsthand from the sidelines, he took the sportscar when semis, hummers, and freight trains were available. and hes still smiling about it. as well he should be. He should be licking his chops, he has arguably the best backfield in the nfl, a corps of recievers ranging from waterbug to fastmoving oak tree, and an offensive line that is young and has lots of potential. He is taking over a team of players whom with the exception of some free agents have never smelled the air of playoff football, and are reveling in the fact that they are picked to be next seasons Lions. He inherits a defense with a loaded defensive backfield consisting of veterans and upstart youngsters and overacheivers. He adds depth to a linebacking corps that has suffered in the 4-3 formation in recent years, as well as injury.....so he adds not one but two strength and conditioning coaches (and if you ask me they all look stronger from trent edwards to donte whitner) which should help keep his opening game starters on the field througout the season and to be more of a factor in the fourth quarter when jaurons teams seemed to always collapse. for the past seasons dick jauron took a supposedly overmatched team and supposedly squeeked 7 wins out of em miraculously, when in fact my opinion was the 180 degree of this, i saw a team with plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, that squandered a lot of opportunities and handed supposedly better teams the wins. Gailey doesnt have the greatest track record as of late, but i have read post and pre firing articles written by kansas city sportswriters and many of them argued to hire him as their next head coach. only will time will tell if they were wrong. he kinda make me think hes a smart wade phillips

Simple offense instead of Complex or Dumbed-down offense?
milehiLou replied to folz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
it seemed to me that last season teams had the ability to sniff out Bills plays.. packages would telegraph play selection.. play action was all but nonexistant in last seasons offense.....the slant pattern was used very sparingly....tight end talent was exposed early and forgotten...lee evans was flanked by a primadonna overthe hill big name with nothing to prove who basically just showed up for work and collected nearly 7mil and had drops on third down on more than one occasion.... spiller is dynamic and will dominate in 3wr sets vs nickel and dime defenses. -
oh but how sweet it will be.
-
All you bell ringers seem to miss the fact that he gave up way more sacks and took more penalties than meredith did. if starting jobs were given on potential, rob johnson would still be calling plays

trade package with Schobel and Lynch.
milehiLou replied to gjv001's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
so all you Lynch haters think chan gailey will waste his talent the last Dick did, just keep hating... you will be in love again. 24 years old and two 1000 yd seasons with a supposedly "bad" offensive line.......jajajajjajaajajajajaaj, you want to trade him for peanuts, jajajajajajajjajajajaja. so many morons -
coaching makes the difference between winning and losing, they are all talent laden teams. im not saying Gailey will be the next bill parcells, but he was just in the NCAA which to me makes me think he will have a better handle on how to coach up this young team. to say dick jauron was detatched would be a serious understatement. you cant tell me a team that was 7-9 couldnt improve to 8-8 in any season, all the while supposedly "filling in holes" with the draft and f/ agency. if gailey doesnt improve the win total of the bills right out of the gate i will eat 100 wings on you tube. (such torture)

gee using that logic, ryan fitzpatrick played well enough to win some games for the bills also....henne is by no means superior to any of our qbs. any of them. and if im not mistaken the offensive line has a first rounder (albeit coming off big injury) who was playing like a vet when he went down, a super solid second rounder at lg, a very steady center, an ultra athletic (albeit coming off injury) at lt in bell or better yet a super strong, very fast Jamon Meredith at either tackle position ( i personally think he will be manning the blind side) and a couple promising tackle prospects in wang and calloway. calloway was projected as a second rounder in many draft publications i read, however his college position is not a huge nfl need, its usually manned by castoff left tackles, which he incidentally manned for Iowa before the arrival of early first round pick Brian bulaga. i see the intelligent army brat manning the rt position come september and holding on to it for a decade or so. jamon meredith-no penalties in 8 games in 2009, one sack allowed in same number of games. andy levitre- super solid atheltic lg. jeff hangartner-solid vet playing his last season at center. eric wood- possible allpro rg, will move to c next season or sooner. kyle calloway-rookie will beat out old cornell green for starting rt job. see above teams ran the ball up the bills rectums last season for these reasons. 1.the strength and conditoning of the team was a joke 2.the four three defense that featured two small defensive ends, one who was solid in contain, and one who habitually took the inside line against RTs and did not contain (DE #1 priority) 3.cb's played with a large cushion giving wrs a chance to block them downfield almost all the time there are probably some more but im getting tired

i was actually equating evans to cotchery, not edwards. evans only had one drop all season, edwards had one per game at least. but you know so much more than me, just save your words, i admit it and all the other posters know it too.
-
i know they have a very very strong backfield, three deep in fact, hmmmmm. sounds familiar. a big young pass catching tight end with top end speed, hmmmm. young unproven qb corps, similar. a smaller fast reciever, and a big deep threat.....im actually not sure which team im talking about here they are so similar a young offensive line with a couple early round picks thrown to the fire early......... on defense they are also similar, leodis and darrelle revis, a run oriented defensive front with a strong man coverage d backfield, and a brand new coach. team that was supposed to be better than they were in previous seasons... i see lots of similarities there. but its my opinion, which is like a butt hole, everybody has one and everyone elses stinks

thanks doc, at least some posters have examined the entire division and evaluated each team compared to the Billy.

you deny that the problem with the Buffalo bills was something other than coaching? lets hope we are revisiting.

looking around the afc east rosters and depth charts, i wonder how so called nfl experts and many posters on tbd. can think the bills are going to suck and get a top three pick in the draft, and believe the other three teams are gonna contend for a championship. 1. miami- as a resident of denver, i watched as nfl fans gasped at the idea of TO coming to buffalo and destroying team chemistry, while i watched Brandon marshall do that exact thing here. he didnt get much pub. for it but he sure did, so much so that josh mcd. traded the ultra talented pro bolwer in affect giving up his most talented offensive player. Why would a couach send a 25 year old superstar packing,? because he is a lockerroom cancer who makes lynch seem somewhat upstanding. they have three good running backs on the team, but i have no idea why henne, pennington, and thigpen srike fear into opposing defenses more than edwards, fitz, and brohm? once you look past Marshall, who do they have to catch the ball? ted ginn jr? lol 2. nyjets-last years jets team reminds me of this years bills squad, a team with plenty of talent that has been squandered by poor coaching and finally replaced by an enthusiastic head coach the jets running game will be the strength of this team with average wideouts cotchery and edwards, and lots will be heaped on second year qb sanchez. how he plays in his second year will be interesting to see. jets defense is looking like a top one again, but the loss of rb washington might hurt big play ability 3. new england- with an aging roster and a terrible defensive backfield this years patriots have done little to remedy that. this is the year teams should blitz the **** out of the pats because they have an undrafted f/a qb on the depth chart behind tom buncheon, there will be no more matt cassell-ing here. if teams figure this out and put the old screamer of a qb on the turf early and often, the pats will be relegated to the basement of the afc east once again. i dont see how welker and an aging slightly disgruntled moss can carry this team again. it sure wont happen with maroney, morris, or faluk. as a lifelong bills fan i realized how bad of a coach Jauron was in his very first game against the pats. the bills had a lead, the ball in field goal range, and the momentum....after running mc-gay-he over the right side for no gain on fourth and one, jauron said he thought it was the right thing to do, and willlis said he thought it was only third down. whoa thats some bad bad coaching there and it only took three more losing seasons to dump the guy. in summary, there is no team in this division which scares me as a fan. an aging pats team, an overachieving jets team, and a dolfins team that has as many holes as the bills supposedly have.
