Goose Gosselin's weekly NFL ranking
mpl6876 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am not going to beat you up. I generally agree with what your saying. What I have been saying all along is that Gailey doens't have the talent. A coach can only do so much. He doesn't have a choice but to run the ball and throw quick short passes. The whole league knows it and do our opponents. They will prepare for this and we will have to make adjustments. I just don't think any of the adjustments we make will be effective due to lack of talent not lack of coaching. Gailey inherited a team with a lot of needs and he can't fill them all in one season. -
why I am not so worried about LT situation

Your entitled to that optimistic viewpoint but I don't share that viewpoint. Last time I knew a coach needed solid to great players to win; especially at key positions. Since we are talking offense, I ask you who are those players that fit that bill? My point is Gailey may be a solid coach but a solid coach still needs players. As of today we just don't have the proven talent to compete with the elite teams. I don't foresee all of our young guys stepping up. I think it's safe to say some will and some will not. Gailey may be a solid coach. I certainly like him better than Dick boy. But to classify him as a winner is a little over the top. I suppose it depends on your definition of a winner. I would say he has moderate success as a head coach. I will admit he has been successful as an offensive coordinator. As a head coach he had talent with the Cowboys and that's something that shouldn't be discarded so easily. The Green pick up was a "band aid" at best. I don't think many of us were jumping for joy when we picked him up. You said he isn't that bad and that might be correct. I say he isn't that good. Imo, he is not a RT we can build around for the future. In summary, I like the attitude Gailey is taking and with better talent he may turn into a successful Bills coach. However, this year my expectations are quite low. -
Great post, It sure doesn't seem like a lot of fans here want to hold the front office accountable for their horrendous decision making over the years. I for one find Sully's articles insightful and brutally upfront and honest. At least, he seems to hold the organization accountable for their actions. Much like Larry Felser did. Also, the more I read Sal M's articles the more I agree with him. Plus one for he media for taking a realistic viewpoint and informing the fans. Generally, not a big media fan, but in this case I have to defend media. Spin it anyway you want, IMHO, all is not "rosey" at Bills One Drive... (Here come the troll statements)

Flawed logic. Too many variables to consider to make that logic work. -

Very witty, I liked that. Hey, you are entitled to you opinion and I will not take that away from you. As a Bills fan, I take my football seriously and maybe a little too seriously. Your point is well taken but I still do worry about the team being successful and winning games. I can't help it.... -

mpl6876 replied to PJBrown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why I am not so worried about LT situation ? You must be in denial. Any reasonable Bills fan should be and has to be worried about our offensive Line. They might step up and play well but I am worried as hell they won't. It almost like saying as a Bills fan I am not worried about our QB situation. I know you didn't say that. Can someone help me understand how you as a Bills fan are not worried about our OL? -
True, but I believe most football experts would concur that QB and OL are vital components to winning. The fact is the Bills haven't addressed these two needs. As a result, I think questioning the Front Office decisions are legitimate. Time will tell if their unconventional rebuilding is correct and profitable.

Depends how you see things. Firstly, reports out of camp have to be taken with a grain of salt. Everything is watered down and our defense is lining up against one of the worst offenses in the league. Secondly, when I look at our roster I am not impressed. I see a lot of what ifs and potential. I don't see many solid proven players. As a result, I don't thing his statement is that far off. Depends how you see things, but to say he loses credibility IMHO is not correct.

Fantastic way of putting things in the correct perspective. Very well said sir. I agree with you 100%.

I appreciate all the research and information you have provided. You point is duely noted. -

Look at the stats dude and he played under similiar circumstances. No OL, crappy wide receivers, and terrible coaching. If you like I can provide you with his stats. No Bills QB can even come close to his stats last season. TD passes, 275 yards plus passing, etc...Don't get me wrong he isn't a franchise QB, but IMO he most certainly is an upgrade. I just read Sal M's article on our QB situation. Pretty depressing. -

...and to think some say Jason Cambell wasn't an upgrade. Could have gotten him for basically nothing. Still gets me upset. -
Bill Walsh had confidence in Trent Edwards
mpl6876 replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMHO, Bill Walsh's opinions have to be respected. However, we have had ample opportunity to see Trent perform. I think it is safe to say his performance or lack of should by now trump anything that Bill Walsh had said. -
The Haynesworth saga continues
mpl6876 replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have to say that I don't share the same viewpoint. I think Haynesworth's attitude epitomizes what is wrong with todays modern day athletes. Only 21 million? I am not so fast to dismiss that as a minimal act. Secondly, he is under contract for the Washington Redskins for 100 mil. They can play him at LT if they deem it necessary. He is still getting paid. The players of today are very spoiled, have a feeling of entitlement, have little sense of loyalty to teams or fans, and are money hungry/driven. I think Haynesworth meets all of the above. What happened to the athletes that wanted to win and played anywhere to help his team win? Jim Thrope is one of my all time favorites. Hanyesworth is a piece of crap! He isn't entitled to anything and I hope Shannan buries his ass. -

Very very interesting statements. I too want to win now and I am sick and tired of "rebuilding. That is why I wanted the Bills to make some moves at the QB position and LT position via free agency." Also, I have questioned only others on whey they don't hold the FO accountable. So, I hear what your saying. IMO, we have so many holes that a "win right now philosophy cannot be achieved." As difficult as it may be, I am hoping that Nix/Gailey have a plan and execute it within a couple of years. By year 3, I am hoping they have most of the pieces in place to make a serious run for the Lombardi Trophy. Because of past optimism and the scares I bear, I have my serious doubts. We will all have to wait and see. -
That's where you and I differ. Why not attack the statement and not the person? Ever think of that? Instead, your reply always has to reference a troll. The troll comments are not very productive. Very immature and shallow but I suppose it will go right over your head?

San Jose, I love your post and that quote.
-
Hossage, must I remind you again that I only have one screen name and its MPL6876. Another of your disrespectful and unjustified comments. Just because someone else disagrees with you doesn't mean it's me with another screen name. Contrary to your belief, you aren't one of the most respected posters here. (not that I am either) Your consistent rudeness has spoken for itself. Now you post a thread about you and Sully and your seemly looking for us to take your side. That is quite laughable. Sully a professional journalist and you ( ? )In order to get respect you have to earn it! IMHO, you have earned a pompous, insulting, and disrespectful reputation here. As a result, your words are to be taken with a "grain of salt" and you cannot be given the benefit of the doubt.
-
That's what I don't get here. His statement was accurate. Why the attack?
-
As a fan, I cheer for the Bills to win. I really don't take into consideration their record and where they land in the upcoming draft. Perhaps, I am being a little "closed minded" because there is validity to what Sully said. I have a difficult time agreeing with it but I understand it. I myself find it very difficult to encourage my team to lose. Long term, maybe it is best to try to get the best draft pick. One might ask? What's the difference between 2-14 or 4-12. Both are really horrendous seasons. However, the 2-14 might be able to land the top QB in the next draft and the 4-12 team might not have that chance. What do you guys think?
-
I can't believe I am agreeing with you. I don't really like the guy but the rest of your statement is IMO is correct. I believe he knows exactly what he is saying. IMO, one important aspect to coaching is motivating your guys, getting them to put maximum effort on each play, playing as a team not individuals, and believing in the system the coach has implemented. Like Ryan or not, I think he has been extremely effective. Once you get by his "big mouth" his players especially on defense seem to back him up. Their defense is scary....Now a healthy Jenkins to boot. I would gladly take a split with them.
-
Hossage, I am not here to fight with you. That seems to be a stretch though. I can see Spiller, maybe maybe Troup, and Callaway? If it's true for you or anyone else that's impressive. I know you don't care. Just thought maybe we can keep it civil.

Excellent insight. I am hoping TE can turn it around and be a legitimate productive starter. The concerns you mentioned are legit and valid. I concur and that's why I have my doubts. Let's hope he can change things around with the new regime...
