What good is a WR if the QB can't throw accurately over 20 yds? So you have a 6'4 target 10 yards off the line of scrimmage, might as well draft a TE.

I am only saying that a talent at this position, i.e. one who may have a 1st round grade, can have a greater impact on Defense. There is less to learn, the schemes are more instinctive, and natural talent can come before pure technique. On O their is much more technique, more scheme to learn and usually a higher learning curve. Add more talent in 3, 4, 5 on O, no argument. But i think you can have a greater immediate, i.e. this season with a top end D player in rd 2. There will be tackles and speedsters and slot guys in 3, 4, 4 5, 5, to add to the O. Then I consider you lucky! I think you are missing my point as to focus. We could package both 4'2 both 5's and 6 an 7 for a tackle and a wr as well and everyone wins. But id we are going to sit in place, then I think the biggest benefit is for a Defensive player. Adding a tweener in rd 6 to me is a waste. An OT in 3 may not start and simply back up Hairston and Pears. A WR could contribute provided he can adapt to the NFL game and get open ( James Hardy anyone.) If we do not move, I say add a D player and then spend the rest on O. on separate note, I spent New Year's 2007 in Ibiza and the sites were similar a little more provocative but the beer wasn;t probably not even remotely as good.

I believe that adding another key element to Wanny's scheme makes that unit potentially lethal. A Defender who is ready, and I emphasize ready, to come in and start gives us an advantage on one side of the ball. Adding a WR who needs to learn a route tree, to run nfl routes, read nfl d backs and coverages, in my mind doesn't have the same high probability of vaulting a unit from middle of the pack to top dawg. If the other team can't score the worse that can happen is you tie. The reverse is not true on O. But then again my checks aren't signed by the nfl or any of its affialites.

No disrespect, but I think she is one of a kind! I would love a D pick that not only makes BB think about drafting a FB to protect brady, but makes Jets wonder about turning Tebow into a blocker for Sanchez and makes Tannehill think about the glorious opportunities in hospitality management his college has prepared him for. I know everyone will be clamoring for a LT or WR in round 2, but IMHO i think we have an opportunity to be bold and add another starter to the Defense. Chix has said that they think Hairston is a starter and that the OT's available may actually play on the Right giving CH a chance to show development. A WR would be nice but they do not necessarily contribute right away outside of the elite ones that are already gone. IF a lights out LB or DE is available and will start right away, I say go for it. No one runs us out of the building. A ferocious D helps the Offense from a FP standpoint, and we still have picks to add back up on the offensive side of the ball. Fitz can manage a game, the Ravens showed you can win with a great D and an adequate QB. If L David or (gasp) Jenkins or Curry makes us into a top 10 Defense I would be really happy. I like the Gilmore pick based on where they were and what was available. But the OP raises an interesting point in that with less financial downside due to the rookie wage scale, why not try leverage 10 picks into 4 starters or 3 and a significant contributor i.e. a designated pass rusher? With less of a financial impact, busts can be covered in FA. In the current scenario in rounds 2 and 3 we MAY address starting holes but we may also get bumped by others with the same needs. I would like to see 2 #4's and 2 #5's turn into 2 #2's and 2 #3's (current 2 and 3 included). The percentages become more favorable with regard to impacting near field performance. As we become better as defined by season ending record, the lower round picks must be used creatively to effectively add impact players and not merely insurance on a consistent basis. See NE although it pains me to do it. The Giants do that well also.

because we have the 10th 41st and 73rd pick for a reason. We need better players and more of them. I am amazed when I hear the term need bantied about. The thing every team needs is the best players. If there is a player available who is better than the one you have take him especially if he is likely to be a top 10 at his position for years to come. I am a staunch advocate of BPA. It is how the great teams get there and stay there.

and everything i have read says he needs to sit for a year. So he sits and they stink and are in a position to take Landry Jones, boy that would be a lot of drachmas tied up in that position with no assurances.

I find the discussion on this board very astute and insightful. With that said I think that all the experts in the press and the enthusiasts here are overlooking one crucial point. We seem to all agree that you need an impact player in the top ten. One who can come in and contribute immediately. The Dols are no different. Their QB situation is not that different from the Bills. They won 6 of whatever of their last games. They need a receiver, pass rusher, D Line and secondary. Everyone is penciling in Tannehill when next year the phins might have a shot at Barkley or Jones. Tannehill is the ultimate smokescreen and a luxury pick for a team that can't afford it. Yeah their fans might be pissed about missing out on Manning and Flynn but they suck anyways and only get interested when they have locked up a playoff spot. Take Tannehill out of the equation to Miami and Floyd Gilmore Kirkpatrick are less likely to be available to the Bills. Or worse, if someone covets a player Miami is a great trade partner. I may be wrong but if the Phins take Tannehill at 8 i will be shocked.
