  1. Ok, I'll just start by saying I'm interested in discussing this. I'm not running for office. I don't claim to have answers. And this is largely a theoretical discussion at this point anyway. So, say we shortened the public service loan forgiveness time to 5 years. That is fairly doable. IMO, it would make economic sense for most students incurring any substantial debt to take advantage of that. Many students would. Public service would almost become apart of our education (which many people think should happen right now anyway). "Public service" btw is pretty broad and does not just refer to government programs fyi. Nonprofits and the like. Most of which are privately run mind you. Also there are many jobs in public service that require specialized education and develop valuable skills that apply to for-profit industry. So what you have is the government investing in the kids education. Then the kids repay a portion with money, and a portion with their time. They gain their education and join the private work force serving the public (and in some cases government as well). So you could conceivably privatize the efforts many of the government programs conservatives hate (presumably increasing their effectiveness and "dumping" the money into our kids instead of the programs that many don't think work). Also you would think that many talented people would end up staying that would have otherwise never gotten involved. Ideally this would help better our country, work to solve problems, and lessen the burden on the government. At least it could dump public money into solving our problems in a way that has some additional benefits (education). Where are all these public service jobs? Well there would have to be more created and I would imagine more would be created if this existed. Either way that's a fair question. And remember of course, if you go to school for something that somehow doesn't translate well to take advantage of this b/c you can make more money and pay for your loans on your own...then by all means just pay off your loans on your own. Anyway...rough idea just thinking about it. Would appreciate some thoughts. Not saying this is a great idea just an idea. EDIT: Since I never explicitly said this anywhere in the post the overall idea is this would allow us to cut back on some of these government run programs that don't seem to work well, invest in education instead, and the provide intensive for talent and numbers to join/create privately run non-profits that help the same issues the ineffective government programs aim to fix now. It is a lofty proposition and would take time and would be a big shift in our national structure so I don't deny it's a little "out there."
  2. Football character =/= off the field character. If you are a bad football guy you are undraftable. If you are not someone anybody wants to hang w/ off the field it's fine so long as you don't go to jail.
  3. I know that Floyd is used to cutting back on underthrown deep balls and that he uses his body well to box the defender out (which may come in handy here in B-Lo). this
  4. Alright JPS. I will remember this too and eat my own words if they do. But they won't, and then you can eat your words.
  5. The way I read it Buddy just basically ruled out safety in top half of the draft. Very happy w/ Searcy, Byrd is a good player and George is a leader of us. No way we take this guy.
  6. He was tilted towards discussing LB multiple times and never took the bait. He also straight up said CB is more important that LB. Keep in mind this is just for the first pick we're talking about.
  7. Guys he just said it makes an impact. He also talked about Vincent Jackson being one of his greatest picks and how he made probowl right away.
  8. He just said we would add two, not draft two.
  9. Pretty clear LB isn't happening at 10 so get over it. Also, we'll have a WR and CB within the first 3 rounds (probably first 2). Also no Barron that much was obvious from the chat.
  10. Brady will still be in the league as long as Mallet in all likely hood (from here on out) barring injury.
  11. Stop hating on this guy. NFL players are really nothing special if you can play you can play.
  12. Of Cousins, Wilson, and Weeden I expect one will end up a franchise starter.
  13. Honestly I'm starting to think this could be a really special QB class all around but he's the one guy I'm less impressed with following that special.
  14. I think I can draft for the Jags well enough.
  15. In fairness to Chan I'm not sure that's his call.
  16. How about we not be stupid and go with Jenkins who is 10X the play Hosley is. C'mon fans...let's draft the best players and not focus in irrelevant things. We're trying to make playoffs.
  17. Sprinkle a little Russel Wilson in there and I'm ok w/ that draft TC.
  18. To state that obvious, if we go into the season with the WRs we have now we will not make the playoffs and Fitz will be fired.
  19. Gabbert should try opening his eyes when he throws. http://walterfootball.com/images/gabberteyesclosed.jpg
  20. See ya there. I'll be the drunk Santa yelling at old ladies.
