  1. I can see the Bills driving up the cost of Iupati and getting Blalock.
  2. I think that the issue is that teams never refer at players in that fashion in such general terms. No player is just any player to an organization, but it is the language that we as fans speak. You can't look at McCoy as just a back entering his late twenties. There are specific reasons why McCoy is who he is. Years of quality tape. Have you watched much of his games? Don't be afraid to Billieve.
  3. The Bills will have a pass rush with or without Hughes. Everybody on the defense is likely to get at least a sack or a pick, if not both as far as the secondary goes. The Bills return to a single high safety negates having an A. Williams clone on the team. Searcy is good, but it took a lot of reps to get their. Young guys can step in and play sometimes. Nobody saw Bradham's season coming, and that had nothing to do with coaching. That was opportunity meets maturity and newfound commitment. Fans should be excited that there might be another really good young defender to emerge. Duke is feast or famine at safety right now, but if given a chance to start while being used completely differently than with Schwartz, then I would wager that by Thanksgiving, he'll be on the Jim Rome show talking about "how all the pieces are just coming together right now...".
  4. The Bills essentially traded a 2nd round pick from 2 years ago for McCoy. Why are you referencing former first rounders? The Bills lack of effective investment in the O-line for 15 years is a far bigger fault of previous regimes. The Bills always had the runners, but used other teams' cast offs to block for them. I would say that has been the bigger problem. The Bills 1 - 2 punch will not include a former first rounder for 2015. If Whaley can seriously improve the O-line, the running game might become a reason that they win some games for a change. If the day ever comes that run blocking becomes a strength, then sure, spending big on RBs becomes less of a priority.
  5. If Rex wants instant pressure on the QB, he'll get it when he wants it. They won't overpay for Hughes because they need a true 5-tech right now, and they just might get a decent one for a lot less than Hughes's eventual deal. Rex values interior D-lineman a lot, even more so than Corners. Rex's defense's between the hash marks is about zones and blitz's if he can man up effectively outside and set the edge against the run consistently. Many are down on Leodis right now, but the guy had his best season under Pettine. Why Is that? Press man coverage. Zones will never be Leodis's strength. In fact, it really is a big weakness. Press-man is another story entirely. He is a hip pocket player. Rex knows this already, and will build Leodis's confidence all Summer.
  6. The addition of Wilfork would make Spikes completely unnecessary in the base defense.. Vince playing the nose would free Dareus up to make even more plays.
  7. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Saying that the draft is deep at RB is just a catch phrase. Everyone that says that conveniently leaves out exactly who these great college RBs are that the Bills can sit back and draft and live happily ever after? It would be great if the Bills already had a great line, but they don't. Trading a back-up LBer with 2 bad knees for Shady is a no brainer. We all have a beef with the O-line, but you can't use that as an excuse not to move aggressively when you can acquire an elite RB who has actually done it on the field in the NFL. As for the cost, the guy that signs their checks seems cool with how things are going. Therefore, it's not my concern either.
  8. Last years rankings are not likely to apply to this coming season. Sorry, but between the draft, free agency, and coaching turnover, 2015 will be it's own animal.
  9. Brown might be the back-up for Harris for 2 years, or until Harris goes down, while Bradham starts next to Harris with a veteran QBing Rex's D. It would expedite the efficiency of the defense by a lot in my opinion. If the Bills want to make the playoffs this year, the defense needs to be great the first week of September. The offense shouldn't be relied upon for anything yet.
  10. The Bills mistake in the past isn't in their investment in the RB position. It is their lack of effective investment in the O-line. Have they learned their O-line lessons yet? That will determine much of the future.
  11. Doug Whaley. If it's a no go on Hughes, please make a run for the big man. He and Dareus in the middle of the D-line makes for he #1 defense in the NFL for 2015. Case closed. I know you'll do the right thing Mr. Whaley.
  12. Spikes reputation against the run is blown out of proportion. He is on the field for running downs in the base or goal line defense and plays the run well. When teams force the D into the nickel, he can neither defend the pass nor stuff the run very well do to the spaces involved. He is a run plugger when he can sift through traffic and have very little pass defense responsibilities. Harris can drop into zones and handle his business even in the nickel. Spikes and Alonso were going to be part-time players at best for the Bills in 2015.
  13. The Chip Kelly experiment is an important one for the NFL. It will be one of those coaching runs that any fan can take something out of, both positive and negative. Everything in the NFL is a double edged sword. Will he build a Frankenstein that wins a Super Bowl? Will he crash and burn in epic fashion, leaving Philly with the 2012 Ducks? Too early to tell.
  14. Boobie won't make the team. JMO.
  15. Perhaps the Bills new approach to the draft is to just trade away picks for actual NFL players. The scouts are getting off easy these days.
  16. White Cassel?
  17. This is a good point, and bodes well for how the remaining 17 million may be used. Is that enough cap room for Manning?
  18. What are second string weak side linebackers worth?
  19. I don't know. If you are looking for a story line that justifies not giving credit to Whaley as GM, I guess it works.
  20. Somebody said something about having an issue. I still don't see one.
  21. So who exactly is this QB that the Bills should get as of right now? We all know that QB is the big problem, and the other problem is your news flash doesn't include a solution. Who is the guy right now that the Bills should have gotten instead of McCoy?
  22. It has to do with making massive assumptions, and then making more assumptions based on those assumptions. I am not saying that you are wrong, but your extrapolation of events behind the scenes just seems odd to me considering the realm of likely possibilities. I believe that a range of things could have occurred, while it seemed a little soap opera-esque as to your account of things. Playing the jump to conclusions game isn't my strong suit. It just looks like a decisive personnel move by Whaley to me. JMO.
  23. I think you see what you want to see.
