ESPN: Bills' backup plan for Byrd underwhelming
RealityCheck replied to Pitta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great point. There will be more players with real skills getting released as the offseason progresses for all kinds of reasons. Post draft releases can get really interesting. -
I loved Manziel as a college QB. The kid has some genuine magic too him. The biggest problem that I see for him is how will he be able to see down field over his OL. Behind the Bills line I would have to think that his filed vision in the pocket would be seriously affected. Batted passes are a problem for even the tallest QB at times. Simple containment strategies could be enough to minimize his talents. We'll see. I hope he proves his critics wrong as long as it's not against the Bills.

The Bills were in a 4-3 last year. Not much has changed. Unlikely that much will change. Worry away if you must. Single gapping is single gapping when you play an under defense. Schwartz ran the identical alignment the Bills used as a base depending on down and distance last year. The sub-packages are likely where the real differences in scheme will materialize, if by much at all.

I have no doubt that if there is a QB they like and he is available at the right spot, they will draft him. FO and coaching jobs are on the line after all. Doug Whaley does not have all the time in the world to turn the team around. That being said, I doubt they take one in the first this season. If they go with a QB that doesn't have the prototypical body type, it will likely be later in the draft.

Clearing up some OL Confusion
RealityCheck replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The receivers on this team are not as bad as you think. EJ more times than I can count made bad pre-snap reads and didn't even look at guys that came open. EJ's lack of experience combined with having to focus on physical rehabilitation through out the season really got in the way of his progress. EJ's problems with accuracy and finding soft spots in zones where the term "throwing guys open" really applies, can be corrected as long as he can stay on the field and keep working at it. Coming back from the knee injuries added more variables for him to overcome. The OP did a great job laying it down on the O-line. I feel like the O-line, one way or the other, and EJ are going to take a step forward this year. The plays are there for EJ to make. Experience, film study, good health and another solid draft will do wonders for this team. I also think that after a season of hurry-up power running that the O-line will get it going early and often on most teams. The fact that the team as a whole actually got healthier as the season wore on is the definition of a polar shift. I still can't believe how that happened, but I like it. Go Bills! -
Sounds like a fun dude. He should be able to buy his way out of most of this. If I were him, I would have a full time driver. A little rehab and some good old American PR and everyone will forget about it.

Now the Pats Have Added Brandon Browner

I expect Belichek's scheme to return to more exotic pressure/ coverage packages from his 3-4 days now that he can man-up on the outside. It will be interesting. Is it perhaps an attempt to move his defense into a Seahawks style bump and run approach to a Cover-3 shell and a single high safety? Lots of room for weirdness within that scheme with the right corners and coaches. -
CJ will be a wait and see thing. There is no question that Marrone is an old school NFC power running game disciple. I think that CJ functions best as the 2 in a 1-2 punch kind of way. Fred does the most with the least help and can punish people some times. Perhaps CJ should be the change of pace back? Start the game with Fred and Dixon spelling him and introduce CJ as things begin to open up?

Here's your veteran backup QB <edit>Fitzgibbons released

100% inaccurate. -
What O=line players still out there?
RealityCheck replied to Ed_Formerly_of_Roch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At this point, my intuition tells me that the draft will be where the real O-line investment comes in. -
I want one more guy on defense- Terrence Cody, NT
RealityCheck replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, but that makes absolutely no sense. Although Dick Jauron would agree. -

No, it is not a fact. It's just your opinion. -
Mike Evans - does this effect how you feel a/b him?

I would be more concerned if Kevin Klein was his agent. With a name like Cash Money, I would listen to what he has to say. Cha-Ching. -

If they pull off this move I will be truly electrified. I am pumped just thinking about it. We need players that will abuse the opponent. Smash mouth football rules in my book. This would be like when the Yankees signed Tino Martinez. He was a Yankee killer. Then he killed for the Yankees. WHHHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Fitz is garbage. He sucked before, he will suck again. He will always suck. The Bills have truly damaged some of you. Seek help. -
The new Buffalo Bills secondary
RealityCheck replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This should be a default TBD announcement when ever anyone starts a thread worrying about 3-4/4-3 stuff, not that this was the case. The Bills secondary is far from mortally wounded at this point. This is shaping up to be a secondary with a little more size and man coverage ability than last year. I dig it. -
Cordy flip to right Tackle...No!
RealityCheck replied to oman128's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just don't see them going O-line in the first. Second and third, sure. Just not the first. -
Jason Campbell isn't a bad idea. He has some skills and would help to cut some dead weight off the QB tree. It's time for some pruning.

Revis a Patriot / Bucs cut Revis
RealityCheck replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Beliceik hasn't had the corners to allow him to dial up the exotic pressures that he used too. The better Revis performs shutting guys down one on one, the greater the odds are that he will dial up some pressures as a result on 3rd down. A wise gamble on Belicik's part. He has always been a cover-2 shell kind of guy that used to dial up weird pressures out of it when using the 3-4. Perhaps that is the goal now out of his 4-3 alignment. No one talks about it much but he has been pretty vanilla in his bend but don't break approach while transitioning to the 4-3. Oh well. Obviously I HOPE it backfires. -
Tommy Lee Jones? Black Moon Rising was his best movie BTW.

Love the pick-up. He will add experience and passion to an already exciting secondary. Special team skills help a lot too, and he wants to be here. How many Buffalo fans get to play for the team? Just awesome! Internal competition is so important and Donnie may even help him get better. I like our dime and quarters packages already. -

Brady, Brees, and Brady are QBs who's biological clocks are ticking. These teams have an ever closing window to capitalize on 3 of the best QBs of this generation. Major football legacies are on the line. -

I guess you didn't hear what happened to Melvin. He is quite the crime fighter now in Tromaville.
