  1. Just FYI, the Bills defense is ranked #24 in the NFL, and the Bills offense is #25, so statistically the offense actually performed a bit worse than the defense relative to the rest of the NFL. They both were terrible, though.
  2. There wasn't really much magic there anyhow - bottom third in the league just about everywhere. Maybe without the beard he can look to crest a 58% completion percentage.
  3. A loss helps the team, but that still doesn't change the harsh reality of the talent level on the team. It isn't about having a pity party, it's about objectively (as objectively as we can as Bills fans) comparing the skill level of the players on our roster to those on other more competitive rosters. By my quasi-objective analysis, the findings are pretty bleak. Also PTR - is it about time you switched off that signature? While Fitzpatrick played well against the Ravens, the point was that he was #2 or #3 in the league with a 100+ QB rating and several posters speculated that it would plummet. And plummet it did, right back towards his career averages and squarely bottom third of the league. Just happened a week late
  4. We are talking about the terrible performance of one season of NFL football, not some million-trial clinical test or statistically valid population sample or something. Lose the 'Stats 101' powertrip and get real. It's a football message board. People use statistics to compare performances over the course of one or more seasons to make their points. And the point of the OP was that highly drafted quarterbacks tend to show up more in the playoffs, which is obviously true. You don't need a phD to recognize that the teams with the best quarterbacks compete for championships year in and year out, while the teams with the journeymen fight for the scraps. Also, to the posters that claim the Bills offense is good - it's really quite terrible and about as bad as the defense was. Fitz did not shine - he was well below average and led his team to the third worst season in the NFL. Bottom quarter offense, bottom of the barrel QB. Only way to turn things around and compete for championships for a decade is to find elite QB play any way you can - and not settle for a smart guy with a killer beard. Dare to dream of having the next Tom Brady and own the division until 2025.
  5. God bless the Internet. Truly a gift that keeps on giving and giving and giving.
  6. Reports of savagery of all kinds at the Ralph are greatly exaggerated on this board. From reading things, you'd think 75% of RWS patrons literally projectile vomit and urinate on all those around them. Held season tickets for many years and can say that it is a fine place to bring your kids and have a good time. Would I suggest that you take your little ones into the endzone corners? No. Would I suggest you bring your kids if you are afraid that they'll be corrupted by a vulgarity or two? Nope. Still a ton of fun, and I can't wait until the product on the field matches the NFL gameday experience.
  7. Some of the largest sponsors of the NFL are beer companies. Just saying. The league makes tens or maybe hundreds of millions of dollars off of the synergy of football and beer.
  8. You do not know what you are talking about. Every quarterback drafted is a "crap shoot". The hit rate on quarterbacks taken at the top of Round 1 of the NFL draft is A MILLION times higher than the hit rate on quarterbacks selected anywhere else. Just because you can name a handful of high first round QB flops doesn't mean there aren't a THOUSAND quarterbacks that flopped that were drafted in rounds 2 and higher. You think #1 overall draft pick quarterbacks flop often? Wonder why getting Tom Brady in the 6th round is so incredible? Pretty much 100% of them fail.
  9. Note to all of the "We need defensive help and nothing else! Front 7! Linebackers! Our offense is great, defense defense defense!" crowd: The Buffalo Bills rank #24 in total defense. The Buffalo Bills rank #24 in total offense. They are terrible on both sides of the ball, and equally so. Quarterback is the most important position on any sports team in any league in the world. It's worth trying to find an elite one. Probably won't pan out, but boy is it ever the only way to compete for championships for a decade. Dare to dream of the day when the Bills have a top-5 quarterback and the rest of the country remembers that we actually have a team.
  10. HAHAHAHAHA. Yeah right. He's 19th in the NFL in rushing yards (59.5 YPG, 5 TD, 4.3 YPC), and is being dominated by such marquis "top RBs" as BenJarvus Green-Ellis (61.9 YPG, 12 TD, 4.4 YPC) and LaGarette Blount (78.4 YPG, 6 TD, 5.2 YPC). Fred Jackson is what he is - a plucky, bottom-half-of-the-league kind of guy. He runs hard, is a good blocker, but isn't even on par with the average backs. Sorry guys, I know it hurts to recognize that, but it's true. I know you'll blame everyone else but Fred for his performance, being desperate to validate one of your own. That's cool too. Also, to the poster that compared Emmitt Smith to Fred Jackson as pertaining to backs rushing into their 30s, just LOL. Smith was arguably a top 5 all-time back. Jackson might be top 500 all-time, maybe not. There is a reason why most people assume that a running back loses their effectiveness once they crest 30 - it is because that happens nearly every time with almost no exception.
  11. While all parts of a defense work together in harmony and you can't just look at any one player in a vacuum, you do occasionally see some of the good ILBs in the NFL engage a blocker, throw them aside at the key moment, and make a tackle. It'd certainly help our linebackers if the defensive line was better, but it'd also help our linebackers if they were better at football.
  12. This is where you lost your credibility. Drafting Tom Brady and fluking into perhaps the greatest QB in the history of the NFL is both here and there. The rest of the team is almost completely irrelevant. That is how important having elite QB play is in the NFL. The Patriots have a WORSE defense than the Bills. Can you even believe it? Our defense is HORRIBLE, and theirs is even worse. But they have the most important position in team sports history covered with one of the greatest of all time. A 5 year old could draft for them since, and they'd still make the playoffs every year.
  13. LOL. Well, we can either wait for a once or twice in a century dominant defense, or maybe do it the way that most teams win with the other 90% of the time. The Patriots have a WORSE defense than the Bills. Think about that. The Colts perennially compete for championships while having among the worst defense in the league. What's the difference? It's ok to want a superstar quarterback. We are worthy. I know you don't think we are, but seriously, one perfect draft choice of an elite quarterback, and people across the country instantly will remember we actually have an NFL team.
  14. Zero chance. The best players in the NFL avoid Buffalo like the plague. Zero chance. The best players in the NFL avoid Buffalo like the plague.
  15. Sorry guys, but the realists were proved to be correct with Fitzpatrick's abysmal end of season statistical correction. He is a great guy, I'd love to hang out with him, and I appreciate his drive, demeanor, and desire to win. I don't appreciate how he consistently goes "on the Fritz" in key moments, and generally displays worst-in-the-league caliber accuracy. Those are not the traits of Super Bowl winning quarterbacks. The NFL is a quarterback league. The teams that consistently win are the teams that get elite-level play from their quarterbacks. We will never get elite-level quarterback play with Ryan Fitzpatrick. We will never consistently compete for championships with Ryan Fitzpatrick. If you want to try to rebuild back to 7-9, Ryan Fitzpatrick may get you there (he may not either, as this season has shown). If you want to try to build a championship-caliber team, you simply and undeniably need an elite quarterback. Does drafting a quarterback with a high first round pick guarantee that you'll get elite-level play from that position for a decade? Absolutely not. Does drafting a quarterback with a high first round pick give you a better shot than acquiring one through any other means? Absolutely yes. Does a high first round quarterback have a chance to bust? Absolutely. Should that scare you from trying to fill the most important position in all sports, no, it shouldn't. Reject institutional mediocrity. Reject a guy that is just good enough. Reject the notion that we don't deserve the chance at superstar quarterbacks. Just try. Please, just try.
  16. No. That is what training camp and pre-season is for. If you think he had a chance at being your starter, maybe. But he does not have that chance.
  17. Donte Whitner is so far from being the problem with this team that it isn't even funny. Guy is a solid, not spectacular player, who actually cares if the team wins or loses. He would play for most other NFL teams, and that really can't be said about most of our players. Worry more about them and stop being haters.
  18. Thanks be to the baby Jeebus for bringing us this wonderful holiday gift. Just wow. Please please please please please be Rexy.
  19. Spiller is a slot receiver or nothing in the NFL. Wait and see.
  20. Patriots 38 Bills 17
  21. Ouch. When you're crossing your fingers for the next Deuce Mccalister, things are pretty grim. Hope Spiller turns it around though.
  22. Sweet, the best stat you can cherry pick over a particular portion of the season STILL puts us in the bottom half of the league. Are we supposed to put him on the Wall of Fame for being the 17th best at something? Kind of sickening that being in the bottom half of something instead of the bottom quarter (as we are in most facets of offense) get us all moist in the shorts.
  23. 27th is plenty good for us. We broke the top 30! Rejoice!
  24. You and me both have the right to work for whoever we choose. Simple as that.
  25. I don't get it. Why would we take away some of the games our coach coached when evaluating our coach? Under Chan's genius coaching, the Bills remain in the bottom quarter of the NFL in offense. Again. Cut out the bad games he coached if you want, that's fine. You'll see what you want to see. I agree that the offense was more watchable this season. It's just funny how giddy everyone is with what anyone outside of Buffalo would call one of the worst offenses in football.
