Lee Evans playing well in Baltimore
john replied to fairfaxbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
that sounds like the typical lee evans game from last season....2 or 3 catches for about 60 yards....including a 30 or 40 yarder. decent, but nothing to write home about. wish him the best of luck in baltimore becuase he is a class act and plays his heart out, but it was time for him to move on. -
I really hope he is not cut. he may not be great but he is at the very LEAST a very servicable backup. we need depth now. no way he is cut.

thanks for all the updates! You are doing a great job and if I could, I would tip you $5 and send you a case of Molsen!!

[ Thanks for the updates Marg! Posters like you are so wonderful and you really don't know how much this is appreciated by all us fans that don't live near Buffalo. Just curious, have you attended many practices? Lately I keep hearing that Fitz is really out of sync and it is disheartenig becuase I heard he was on point with his throws during the first week of camp. In your opinion, is he gonna make it this season or is he really just a lame duck starter until something better comes along? I want so badly to beleive in him becuase he has taken the leadership roll to heart and is a great roll model but I have a lot of doubts starting to creep in.... quote name=mrags' timestamp='1313625741' post='2217777] Carrington seems to be overpowering Bell in team defense drills easley just had a nice TD catch Fitz just threw a pick. Didn't see who to Nelson had a ball stripped from McLovin more to come Wang really sucks bad Merriman was working on his hand movements for quite a bit early even though he's not dressed Easley wide open again for TD from Brown Dareus just pushed Wood back like 8 ft. The just is impressive!!!

I'm not a Lee Evans 'homer' and I certainly feel like I am over the fact that he is gone. That being said, if you think he has lost a step or you think he wasn't valuable last season, go back and watch the game against the Ravens. I think he had nearly 150 yards and 3 touchdowns....yeah, he sure has lost a step.
-
Actually yes they have..which is why I included that comment in my post. People went way overboard saying he looked lost, slow, and 'clueless', just to quote a few words being thrown there. Take a look at some of the posts regarding last nights game and you'll quickly come across them. Shall I copy and post some for you instead??

I happen to be someone who is not worried about our wr's in the least bit. Last season when forced into action at Miami, Jones, Nelson, and NR all played excellent on the road against a decent Defence and as rookies. No Evans and no Parrish to help take some of the pressure off of them but it didn't matter. Basing their performances from 1 freaking preseason game when most of them played with the 2nd string and 3rd string O.line is just a joke. When Parrish returns to health, he will be our number 2 wr like he was last season before he got hurt. When we go 5 wide and have parrish and spiller out of the slot, it is going to create so many mismatches underneath it will open up the outside for Stevie and who ever else is on the other side. And last but not least, Easly has had all of 1 or 2 practices and you want to say he looks like a bust after one preseason game? Wow. Do some of you need wetnaps and nipples for your beers? If we stay healthy this season, I fully expect our O to score a lot of points and have lots of success passing the ball, including going deep. Can we just sit back, try and relax, and remember that our starters will get more reps as the preseason goes along and guys like davis and easley will get better and better as they actually get a chance to practice with the rest of the guys??? Go Bills!!

Great notes!! Just a casual observation here, and I realize it's just the first week of training camp, but doesn't anyone get the impression that Thigpin has looked much sharper with fewer reps? He knows Gailey and his offense and seems to be very comfortable now that they have been reunited. I love Fitz and his competitive fire, but no one can question that he just doesn't seem to have great accuracy, especially on the deep throws. Anyone think Tyler has a realistic shot of beating out Fitz for the opening day start at KC? I'm not trying to start anything either. I support both guys and I will back the starter. I just want to see the best guy win...and that is the guy who gives this team the best possible chance of winning when the season opens. GO BILLS!!

Can anyone come up with a list of the best available o.lineman in free agency? Not like Buffalo will be able to land anyone worth a crap but I'd still like to know who's out there.
-
guys, guys, guys! Bottom line is this: Fitz is going to light it up this season and the Bills will win every single game in which they score more points than the opposition. I promise you!!!!! The possibilities are endless!!!!!!

I am so excited about this upcoming season and this debate is really getting my blood flowing. I've very much enjoyed reading this post over the last several days and I thank everyone who has contributed in a respectful and courteous manner. Regardless of whether or not Fitz is the answer and regardless of whether or not he takes a big jump in his overall game this season, I do believe the Bills will show a much better product on the field because of these two basic reasons: 1.) The defense was addressed in the draft and can only get better this season. 2.) Year 2 in Gailey's system for the entire offense will only make them more confident, comfortable, and efficient. I know these are very basic and 'thanks for stating the obvious' reasons, but on the surface, they should both seriously translate to many more wins this year. Avoiding injuries to key players is, as always, huge. Go Buffalo!!

I don't usually post on this website, though I do very much enjoy reading everyone's posts on a fairly regular basis. For what it's worth, here are my two cents on Fitz as our starting QB: My first memory of Fitz was watching him play in the game against the Jets (2009-2010 season) after Edwards was injured very early in the game. I remember being very unimpressed for maybe the first 3 quarters of the game. A lot of his throws were way off target and his completion percentage was probably close to only 45-50%. However, the 4th quarter of that game completely changed my perception of the guy and I've never been a doubter since. He stepped up in the pocket to avoid a very heavy rush and fired a strike over the middle to Lee Evans who either scored a touchdown or gained a huge first down that led to a touchdown. I remember thinking, 'wow, when was the last time we had a quarterback with enough guts to attempt to throw the ball in a very tight window like that, while under heavy pressure'? I was sold. The guy has guts. He isn't afraid to step up into the pocket and fire the pass into a short window or into heavy traffic. Sometimes this leads to interceptions. Other times it leads to huge first downs and touchdowns. He isn't one to just check the ball down and not take chances. It's this gunslinger mentality that really draws me to him and makes me a believer. I know he needs to get better with his decision making skills....though I know he is a smart guy, no one can question that. I truly do believe his decisions will get better this year as he gets more reps with the first string offense and he gains more and more confidence from his teammates and coaches. Bottom line, the guy isn't a mister check down and he made a ton of huge plays for us this season all because he was willing to take a chance...something we have not seen from a QB on this team since Drew Bledsoe. Fitz has his weaknesses for sure, don't get me wrong. He will never be confused with Montana as he isn't one of the more accurate quarterbacks in the league. Nor will he ever be confused with John Elway as he doesn't have a rocket for an arm. But I can't help but throw in a word that gets kicked around a lot here...intangibles. He looks like a leader...he talks like a leader...he acts like a leader...and he has, in my humble opinion, just enough arm strength and solid fundamentals to be a very solid starter in this league. For all of those people putting him down for his poor performance last season, especially down the stretch, I just don't understand the logic there. He was up against some of the better blitzing teams in the league against Minnesota, Miami, and New England. He was a sitting duck with less than average protection most of the time in those games and for the Miami and New England games, he was without two starting receivers both games. For what he had to work with, he showed me enough, over the course of the season, for me to have confidence in him as a quarterback and as a leader who is more than capable of leading this team into the playoffs. Year 2 in Gailey's system, with everyone back and healthy (healthy being the key word), and going into the system as the unquestioned starter, I have nothing but confidence and excitement heading into the season. If he ends up crumbling under the pressure and it turns out he isn't the man for the job, then so be it. I will still support him and everyone else on this team, for better or worse. Go Bills!!

Yeah, he tries. Just like you are trying to be a complete a s s h o l e. If you think he is a loser fine, show enough class and keep it to yourself. In all seriousness, if one of your kids called an honest athlete a POS, would you support that attitude? And I don't care what kind of mood you are in. If you can dish it 'classy lady', STFU and take it on the chin.
-
Agree 100% positive. Call someone a POS for abusing his wife or for not paying child support but don't take out your blind and over bearing hatrid on a player for giving all he has to give. It's one thing to say "so in so doesn't have talent" but some of our fans show zero class and I for one don't care if they leave town on the next 747 and never look back. Go Bills!!!
-
Wow. And I thought the bickering Bills were bad about talking trash amongst themselves! Now we have stooped so low as to run our mouths and call one of our own players a POS?! For crying out loud. Yes he sucks and he flat out lacks talent but he tries. If you want to label someone as a piece of s h i t , either blame the headcoach for puting hm in the game or look in a mirror and see if you don't better deserve the trash you so brashly attempt to throw at someone else. Thank you for trying Trent. There are far worse players in the NFL who deserve to be called a POS before you do. It's always good when you can weed out the bandwagon and pussyfoot fans. They are the one's who call their own children a POS for missing a freaking free throw in a YMCA game. LMAO Classy lady, that you are!!!

Official Trent Edwards Excuse Thread...
john replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Over the years I’ve found that I tend to hang on to quarter backs way too long. I’m usually the last person to give up on someone, long after it’s obvious that they just don’t have what it takes to make it in the NFL. I was enamored with all the Physical tools that Rob Johnson had. He could make all the throws. I kept telling myself that injury prone players don’t exist, it’s just a matter of bad luck and terrible timing. Then with JP, I loved his cannon for an arm. I knew he didn’t have sh-- for touch and that he couldn’t read a defense but I kept believing all of that would eventually come along. And now with Edwards. I know he doesn’t have a rocket for an arm but it’s more than enough to succeed in the NFL. He has shown that he can make all the throws and we all know he is smart. The game just doesn’t seem to be slowing down enough for him. I think much Like JP, playing behind a miserable excuse for an offensive line has really stunted his growth and he may never develop confidence in the pocket. But just like with Johnson and JP, I’m still holding on to hope that things will start to slow down for him and that this year will be a great one. I’m giving him three games this season to show me he can make it in this league. I don’t care about the record. If shows improvement each game and his confidence grows, I’ll back him. If he falls flat on his face and regresses or doesn’t show any sign of marked improvement, I’ll finally move on and admit he’s not the next Jim Kelly. Just my two cents. -
I know it's just a quote and of course players are going to say positive things about their team to the media, but reading this made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I haven't seen attitude and excitment like this sense the days of Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas. Granted there was excitement when Bledsoe came to town, but he never was much of a vocal leader, at least not in my opinion. Quote of the Day "Trust me. Trust me when I say this: It's not gonna be an easy game for New England. Trust me." — Terrell Owens, asked by a fan if the Bills would beat the Patriots in the season opener.. GO BILLS!!!!!! I just thought I'd let everyone know what they don't
john replied to ans4e64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've actually read reports from posters who have gone to camp stating that Edwards at times has made money throws, made great reads, and has had time to throw the ball. At other times, he has been 'sacked' or made poor throws. This is training camp people! The Defense ALWAYS shines early and makes the offense look bad and people start to panic. I don't care if you are talking about the Cardinals or the Giants. It's the same thing. The defense is flying around rushing the QB and reacting. The offense, especially the line, is more occupied with technique and other complications that cause the slow start......relax. if Trent is getting 'sacked' like crazy in the 3rd and 4th preseason games, then I'd start to worry.... -
The Bills' problems against 3-4 defenses
john replied to Orton's Arm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually, if I recall correctly, both games against Miami were fairly close and should have been won by the Bills. Buffalo was leading late in the 3rd quarter/earl 4th vs. the Dolphins in Miami and probably would have won if not for an injured McGee getting toasted by Ginn all afternoon. In Canada the offense didn’t exactly play well but the biggest problem was the defense. Go back and look at the total yards given up in that game. Miami didn’t just walk past the Bills. Also, how many 3-4 defenses does a young QB face in college? Slim to none. Edwards is a smart kid. If he is as smart as they say he is, not factoring any of the upgrades to his weapons and to the o.line (or downgrades if that’s how you chose to view it), he should improve against the 3-4 simply by his previous experiences and extra practice/film study this offseason. Go Bills!! John -
Does anyone remember watching Jason Peters in practice when he FIRST lined up as a LT? The man was a beast but was slow and got killed by the speed rush. After time he got better and we all know the rest of the story. you may be right, this season may not be his, bu t next season I loko for Bell to be HUGE for the bills. just a hunch
-
This may sound stupid, but I'm sure most of you Madden geeks out there will understand. If you have ever played against the Colts, Manning will line up quickly and then lots of time use the entire playclock OR run it down to around 10 seconds or less before having the ball snapped. It's maddening becasue he keeps calling audibles and the recievers/running backs keep changing positions. Trying to play defense against this type of offense, at least in Madden, is very frustrating. I can only imagaine how it must frustrate a 'real' defense if it is executed correctly.
-
Why do people keep confusing the no-huddle offense with the hurry up offense? You can run the no-huddle offense at the exact same pace you run a normal, huddled offense. The point of the no-huddle is to get the players lined up a bit quicker to create doubt in the mind of the defense and to give the QB a chance to read the defense and audible if he sees mismatches he beleives he can take advantage of. You can still use up the entire play clock, no matter how quickly the players line up. Payton Manning, who I am NOT comparing to Trent Edwards, does this all the time..... The hurry up is something you use in the last few minutes of a half or game when you need to score quickly. I thought this debate had been hammered out already.....Not trying to knock anyone, just trying to clean up what has become a mess of the term "no-huddle"

It's all moot for Bills if rebuilt lines don't jell
john replied to Pitta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that the O.line is a huge question mark and I have thought about poor David Carr and the punishment he took playing behind one of the worst offensive lines of all time. However, Carr only had a mediocre group of wr's and didn't have sh-- for running backs. Talent at the skill positions will help to a certain degree. (I think he may have had Johnson back then but of course he was much younger and didn't have the experience he has now) You just never know with the o.line. On the plus side, the Bills have an extra week of camp. They play 5 preseaon games also. They will have more time then the average team to work out the kinks. Also, playing their 2nd and 3rd games at home can only help. Tampa Bay's aging defense does not scare me and if you look at the points that were scored against New Orleans last season, they don't scare me either. I just don't undersand why we keep harping on the same thing over and over again. Hasn't this already been discussed at length in 10-15 different posts? I'm giving the entire team the benefit of the doubt. I expect things to progress nicely throughout camp and I expect each preseason game to help in the 'gelling' of the O.line. Come week one, who knows, maybe they will be ready to go. If nothing else, I know they have all spoke of having chips on their shoulders for being so underrated and I like the attitude there. -
I can’t argue with anything you have to say here. I agree. The coaching staff we have in place now has not proven that they are capable of leading this team to the playoffs. However, as stated before, I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt this year. Brand new season, brand new attitude, do or die, and Jauron knows it’s playoffs or bust for him. I believe that Perry’s defensive scheme will finally start to pay off in this being year three and the new up tempo offense has me excited. Jauron may make a ton of questionable calls on game day, but he also has the balls to pull the fake field goal/fake punt/onsides kick out of his butt sometimes when other coaches wouldn’t even dare. I don’t always see the ‘smarts’ in his eyes but I do see the heart and this year we will truly find out how much fight he has within him. I think you will see the players elevate their play and the playoffs WILL happen. Let’s do this Buffalo!!!!!!
