I love when people get into "He said/She said" arguments on here. It's just the sort of riveting drama the world has been missing...

Thoughts on the Bills draft strategy
WickedGame replied to billspro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This draft is starting to remind me of 2012, the year we drafted Gilmore. Buffalo had needs all over the field, and the mock drafts were as scattered as they come. Various mocks had us taking WR Justin Blackmon, S Mark Barron, WR Michael Floyd, DE Quinton Coples, and others. When we picked CB Stephon Gilmore, I said "Huh? Really?" Hard to get excited about a CB...after all, there's like 11 of those on every team, but whatever. But when I read about him, I thought "Okay, sounds like a shutdown guy. I guess I can get onboard." Now it's 2017. Most of us are thinking WR or S. Some folks think we snag LB Foster based on his blue chip stock. But CB? Until we let Gilmore walk, did anyone really think CB was priority #1? More to the point, did anyone WANT cornerback to be priority #1? I mean...wasn't a toss-up between WR and S...when there are exceptional candidates at both spots...enough positions to choose from? Which is why I think many of us will be surprised (and disappointed) when we go CB in round 1. We may follow that up with WR, OT, and S in the rounds that follow, but the consensus will be that we missed a golden opportunity to snag a stud at one of those positions of need in round 1. I'm prepared to hate this draft. But I'd rather hate the draft and love the results than love the draft and hate the results. -
Since we're officially in the "silly season" -- that off-season lull where bored Internet commentators spew wild predictions (translations: goofy hopes and dream) -- let's play along. What wild and crazy thing will Dealer Doug and the Bills do in the next two months. Free agency, trades, draft...it's all fair game. Call your shot. I'm not looking for your "I hope they" or your "This is my guy." We've seen those already. I'm saying make a prediction about the unexpected thing the Bills will do...something that hasn't been mulled over in a million other threads (ex., Bills sign Romo, Bills cut Kyle Williams). Here's my goofy prediction: The Bills will trade Jerry Hughes. And...go.

Corey Davis threw up in your mouth after joining the Patriots? Awkward...

Because it's the off-season...and because there's nothing else to do to pass the time until free agency and the draft...here are a few of your favorite Bills players, anagrammed: Tyrod Taylor = Try to lay rod Sammy Watkins = Yank swim mats Reggie Ragland = Gag ringleader Marcell Dareus = Red llama curse (the REAL reason for our playoff drought) Richie Incognito = I, the iconic groin Cordy Glenn = Neon clergy Eric Wood = I wore cod Lesean McCoy = Same Cyclone Kyle Williams = Will milk easy Ronald Darby = Old barnyard Stephon Gilmore = Nope, more lights I'd do more, but this is lame enough for one night. Enjoy.

The "stable teams don't change coaches every two years" statement is a classic case of "post hoc, ergo propter hoc" fallacy...that is, "winning occurred after these teams stabilized their coaching, therefore coaching stability caused the winning." In reality, these teams don't win because they have stable coaches...they have coaching stability because their coaches win (and therefore get retained). All three of the coaches for the teams you mentioned had winning records by their second season with the team. In his second season at Green Bay, Mike McCarthy went 13-3, won the NFC North, and advanced to the NFC Championship game. Mike Tomlin was 10-6 in year one, 12-4 in year two, made the playoffs both times and won the Super Bowl in his second year. Bill Belichick was 11-5 in year two and won the Super Bowl. These teams weren't good because they were stable, they had owners who invested in stability once they got good. If any of Buffalo's coaches had made it to the playoffs or won the Super Bowl within their first two years, we'd have stability, too.

More fake news from an espn expert
WickedGame replied to racecitybills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Can we stop with posts like this? Claims of "fake news" and railing against the media have a very familiar tone...a very political tone. It's sports commentary. Not news. There's a difference, in both style and purpose, between news and commentary. Why do you care so much about the raging epidemic of "fake news" in sports? It's just a game, man...it's ALL here for entertainment purposes only. -
Our 1st round pick officially declares

I'm trying to decide what you like. I've watched this forum for a long time. From my perch on the couch, you dislike a whole lotta everything from the Bills and you appreciate dang near nothing. Doesn't matter much to me either way...just seems lonely being constantly dispirited by the very thing that occupies (apparently) hours of your day. -

Offense #3 in Points, Defense #6 in Points
WickedGame replied to WickedGame's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, of course. I just couldn't get those numbers easily from ESPN/NFL.com mobile sites. Still, I doubt it dramatically changes those rankings, since most teams haven't had their bye week yet. There'd likely be a shift of 1-2 positions on either side of the ball, with improvement on the defensive ranks and a possible slippage on the offensive ranks. -
Granted the numbers are skewed because several teams have had bye weeks, but here's a stat for you: We're #3 in the NFL in points produced and #6 in points allowed. Our defensive rank could be higher if not for 5-game teams like Minnesota.

3-2, but Tyrod Taylor has only 1 INT ever on the road
WickedGame replied to r00tabaga's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jim Kelly threw for 300+ yards all the time. When Jim Kelly was our QB, we won a lot. I feel happy when we win a lot. Therefore, we need our QB to throw for 300+ yards for me to feel happy...right? Nostalgia + bad logic + confusing Madden with reality = sadness + envy. The equation is balanced. -
Billy Buffalo facing 4 game suspension

When is someone in the FO gonna be held accountable? -
For those who think the NFL policy of suspending players for weed is dumb, here's my two cents. And I say this with the full knowledge that more "well informed" individuals will correct my "misconceptions" about pot... Is pot legal? In some places, yes. In some circumstances, yes. Is pot harmful? In most cases, usually not. In some cases, yes. Does smoking pot lead to poor choices? In some cases, yes. Could those poor choices be harmful to yourself or others, yes. Does the desire to smoke pot lead to poor choices? Yes. I'm not talking about the chemical effects of the drug here; I'm talking about the apparently uncontrollable impulses people have when they're not high. Should the NFL relax its marijuana policy? My view is that it should not because it's consumption and the pursuit of its consumption is apparently so compelling as to make people willing to throw away $100 million opportunities. And anything that renders a person so GODFORSAKEN STUPID is not a thing I want the NFL telling my 9-year-old son or 9-month-old daughter "Sure, go to town!" Call me old-fashioned, but the self-indulgence and "I'mma get mine" ethos in our society is the reason for more of our problems than all the politicians, corporations, special interests and terrorists combined. Now get off my lawn.

Looks like Baltimore just lost a WR for the year. Opening weekend match-up for the Bills, and I'll be there. Hate injuries, but hope we emerge with a W. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/16130619/breshad-perriman-baltimore-ravens-partially-torn-acl

Opening Day: Grass at Baltimore
WickedGame replied to KellyToTasker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great, now I gotta worry about the grass at M&T Bank Stafium getting cancer. -
Take a look at the standings. The AFC South is a disaster. So is the North and the West ain't much better. There's a lead dog in each of those divisions and not much else. There will be contenders for the wild card, no question about it, but the pack in the middle isn't as convincing as recent years. A win is a win. As Aaron Rodgers says, R-E-L-A-X.

Why do we have to put "Article" in the post title? To distinguish it from some fan's opinion so as to not confuse or mislead TSW readers? The "article" was an opinion piece, no different than something we'd post/read here. Did it reflect some knowledge of the Bills state of affairs? Sure. But plenty of folks here also have that level of familiarity. I'm not posting this to be a crank. I just hope we don't place too much stock in an "article" -- and yes, some people will -- just because some dude picked us to win it all. I hope we do win the Super Bowl, and I actually believe we have a shot at it. I'm more excited about Sunday, though, than I am about a shot-in-the-dark guess about something five months from now.
