  1. Shanahan knows that protection is the key, Jason Campbell is a slightly above average QB in the NFL and had amazing stats considering he was playing behind a old and depleted line last year, and Chris Samuals is done, so tell me why you draft a QB with no line to sit on the bench while your starter is getting drilled game after game.
  2. Assuming the Redskins don't take him (left tackle is the way they will be going) who else needs a QB if we can trade down with Cincinnati or Houston. 10 - Jacksonville - no, may take Tebow in 2nd 11 - Denver - no, just got Quinn, has Orton starting and drafted a kid they liked last year in 6th round 12 - Miami - no, Henne is locked in, Pennington resigned 13 - San Francisco - no, Alex Smith is finally developing into solid QB 14 - Seattle - no, Just traded for Charlie Whitehurst to be their starter after Hasselback 15 - NY Giants - no, Have Eli and his 92 million contract 16 - Tennessee - no, developing Vince Young 17 - San Francisco, no RT and CB are their needs 18 - Pittsburgh - no, Have Ben do we really need to say more 19 - Atlanta - no, Matt Ryan in place Please tell me why he woudn't be available at 20. I assume the following draft order: Rams - Bradford - QB Lions - Okung - LT Bucs - McCoy - DT Redskins - Williams - LT Chiefs - Berry - S Seahawks - Suh - DT Browns - Morgan - DE Raiders - Baluga - OT That leaves Clausen and Spiller along with Dan Williams, Dez Bryant, Pierre-Paul, etc to entice Cincinnati or Houston to come up and for the Bills to trade down to 20 if they really do want Clausen Assume we make the trade for a swap of 1st's, a 2nd and if Houston a 4th and with Cincinnati a 3rd, possible because the Bengals got two high compensatory picks and would consider giving their 3rd rounder to us. Assume Cincy and here we go: 21 - Bills - Jimmy Clausen - QB 41 - Bills - Cam Thomas - NT 54 - Bills - Roger Saffold - OT (Choice from Bengals) 73 - Bills - John Jarry - OG 85 - Bills - Eric Decker - WR (Choise from Bengals) Now your OL for 2010 would be: LT - Saffold LG - Levitre C - Wood RG - Jarry RT - Bell or Meridith Much better with developing players, Decker might make an excellent possession receiver and then we could focus on situational OLB's to generate heat on the opposing QB
  3. I have been reading many posts regarding the Bills taking Jimmy Clausen if he is available with the 9th pick. In fact it would be shocking to see him not be available at 9. The Rams are the only absolute QB selection in the entire 1st round. The Redskins are taking a left tackle, Seattle got their QB of the future, Cleveland is waiting until later in the draft and has too many needs and in reviewing the available players and team needs, Clausen will be their for the Bills at pick number 9. I don't think this guy is a franchise QB that fits in Buffalo. First of all he has small hands which lead to problems throwing a wet ball (half the games in Buffalo), has known issues with attitude and leadership and may have peaked under a pro system at Notre Dame. Meaning he is as good he is going to get. Plus, he would get killed with the oline issues we have and lack of skill position players. Isn't it better to build the team inside out, meaning an offensive tackle, a guard, a NT and and edge pass rusher before any skill players. If Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey think Clausen is the guy, look for a trade down to either Houston at 20 or Cincinnati at 21 and pick up a 2nd and 4th or late 3rd based on trade chart value. Then you could take him at 20 or 21 and pick up a NT and OT in round 2, grab an edge pass rush player in round 3 and get an OG and WR in round 4. If this can be done, draft him and start him and build very much like the Colts did with Peyton Manning and take the beating in year one and build from their
  4. I can see us going 0-6 against the AFC East, beating only the Lions and Jaguars and Cleveland at home and maybe KC on the road. Best guess would be 4-12. Should be good for a top 5 pick I concur, use this season to add players for the new defensive system and get them experience. See if Maybin can play pass rush OLB in the 3-4. Draft a NT and see how the whole scheme works with the players on the roster. On offense, draft a quality LT and can play guard so Wood can establish himself at center. Draft a WR for development and use this season to check on Hardy and Johnson's progress opposite Lee Evans. Need a replacement for Josh Reed in the slot and maybe this can come in this draft also. A rebuilding year for sure
  5. I see a significant step down as we make changes to the new offense and defense. The present personnel does not match any of the projected schemes and we need to tear down, draft well and rebuild. The thinking must go to improving the OL , a LT in round 1, a OG in round 3 and a NT in round 2, for starters. Also need edge pass rushers at OLB to make the new system work. To me, a two or three win season is on the horizon, and really don't see much hope
  6. I was reviewing the updated depth chart and in a position review, I feel we have the worst roster in all of the NFL. There are so many obvious holes on the roster especially in light of the transition to the 3-4 defense. Let's look at each position: QB - No proven starter as Edwards is petrified to throw a ball more then 5 yards down the field, Fitzpatrick is just awful and Brohm is unproven. However they may be better if they action had an offensive live that could block for more then 1.1 seconds RB - Slightly above average, however Jackson is almost 30 and Lynch is one bonehead move away from a significant suspension, depth behind those two is hideous and the FB position is just flat embarassing WR - Lee Evens and unproven talent, but with no offensive line and the QB's in fear of their lives from the pass rush, does this position even matter TE - Nelson and the other guys are slightly above average and can make the short catch, since that's all we throw I guess it works. OG & C - Wood and Levitre are building blocks, Hangartner is stop-gap at best and Wood should be at C, meaning we need a guard. Depth is pitiful at best T - A total and complete black hole, no proven tackles, one Raider reject and two guys who may have upside but are unproven. OL Summary - Hope whoever plays QB has his career after football mapped out after suffering a career ending injury ST - Well above average, PK, P and even Parrish is a decent punt returner when he's in the mood, McKelvin at KR should improve DL - Players don't match the scheme and the guys we had at tackle need to project to defensive end, plus no nose tackle that can play the 3-4, this line as composed can't stop the run or generate a pass rush, so opposing QB's can pick us apart and then use the running game to play keep-away, what a mess LB - Comprised of back-up defensive ends from the old scheme, an over-rated LB in Poslusney and a worthless blown draft choice in Maybin. No edge pass-rusher at all, and they inside guys are prone to being pushed around S & CB - Other then special teams this is the only other bright-spot, of course to many good players for available spots so we can convert the extra safities to undersized linebackers, oh well at least they can intercept occasionally, may get more INT's then forced punts Let's face facts, this team is horrible and we need to accept a 14 loss season is in our immediate future Opinions please
  7. Washington will take the best available offensive tackle, Seattle just traded for their next QB in Charlie Whitehurst. Sadly Claussen will be available to the Bills and I hope to god they pass.
  8. There is no chance that Berry falls to us at 9, he is a safety and why would we need him at an area where we do have quality players, plus we have to give draft choices to get back into the 1st round and we have way to many holes to do that. Buffalo must fill positions at OL, NT, WR and pass rush OLB as a minimum in this draft. How does drafting a safety and trading picks to move up, actually help us?
  9. I agree with Cody at 20, and then how about a WR such as the kid from Georgia Tech with the 9th pick in the 2nd round and then maybe a Ciron Black the OT from LSU who projects out to RT, although I love Jerald Veldheer, the LT prospect from Hillsdale and maybe the kid from Abiline Christian in the 3rd, high upside but probably need to sit in year one
  10. This would be assuming the top picks went as follows: Rams - Bradford - QB Lions - Okung - OT Bucs - McCoy - DT Redskins - Williams - OT Chiefs - Berry - S Seahawks - Suh - DT Browns - Cluassen - QB Raiders - Baluga - OT If the draft goes this way there is no player I would want. McClain would be excellent but a luxury with our current depth, Dan Williams should not go that high, don't like any other tackle that high and we have no specific needs at RB, S or CB The worst case scenario is if Cleveland takes Spiller at 7 and leaves us the option of Jimmy Claussen who I think will be horrible, small hands, questionable leadership at a position where leadership is key. At 20 the Bills could select Terrance Cody, then look at best available tackle in round 2 and a edge rush LB or WR with the pick from Houston
  11. The more I look at who may be available when the Bills pick and reviewing where the possibilities of trade down scenario's I feel that we have the best option of a trade down with the Houston Texans. Here is my reasoning, The Texans have two primary area's of need, a CB and a RB. Joe Hayden the top rated corner will be off the board by the time they pick 20th and C.J. Spiller will also be gone before their pick. I would offer a trade of 1st's where we move to 20th and pick up the Texans 2nd (pick 51) and 4th (pick 116 or later based on 3rd round compensatory picks awarded). This a fair deal and would allow the Bills the chance to have 3 picks between mid-first to mid second where they should be able to get an OT, NT and WR, plus would have (1) 3rd round, (2) 4th round, (1) 5th round, (2) 6th round and (1) 7th If this trade is made, what selections would you make and do you agree this would be a great trade for Buffalo
  12. I feel a quality LT is the best move and we are in desperate need of a quality NT, Dan Williams is the best option if we are able to trade down. Based on what San Diego did yesterday in trading their 3rd string QB to Seattle for an exchanges of 2nd round picks and a 3rd in 2011 puts San Diego in position to take Terrance Cody with their pick at 28 and then draft the best available RB with Seattle's pick in the 2nd which is right in front of Buffalo.
  13. Based on the latest signings here is what I think the draft selections will be up to the Bills selection Rams: Sam Bradford - QB Lions - Russell Okung - OT Bucs - Nadamakin Suh - DT Redskins - Jimmy Claussen - QB Chiefs - Eric Berry - S Seahawks - Gerald McCoy - DT Browns - C.J. Spiller - RB Raiders - Brian Baluga - OT The Bills are at 9, what do you do: 1. Try to trade down and how far down 2. Draft DE/OLB - Derrick Morgan 3. Draft OT - Trent Williams Please let me know what you think
  14. This deal ends any possibility of the Bills getting Terrance Cody. Living in San Diego here is the reason the Chargers made this deal. By moving 20 spots in the 2nd round, allowed them to take Cody with the 28th pick in the 1st round instead of running back Ryan Matthews. By moving up 20 spots in the 2nd round they have no teams between there pick at 28 until they pick again at 40 who have a running back need. Assuming CJ Spiller goes to Cleveland with the 7th pick (highly likely) and Houston going CB at 20, no other teams were sure-fire locks to take a running back until San Diego drafted at 28. However if they take Ryan Matthews at 28, many teams would take Cody between 29 and 39, such as the Rams, Lions or Chiefs and nobody between 29 and 39 was going to take a running back, Jets at 29, no, Vikings at 30, no, Colts at 31, no, Saints at 32 no. Rams, Lions, Bucs, Chiefs, Skins, Browns or Oakland all have RB's or have recently made moves in free agency to address this need. This move is brilliant for San Diego as it addresses their two biggest needs and as a Bills fan I am thinking that Cam Thomas is probably going to the the NT we will have to select in round 2
