I actually rooted for the Pats yesterday, as much as it pained me. It's hard for me to like a team that wins all the time - at the expense of the Bills.

Passing Game Coordinator?
hondo in seattle replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's why: There's not doubt talent matters. Tyrod clearly has some limitations regards to talent. But there's also no doubt that coaching matters. So if we can't find a better QB, maybe we need a better coach for the passing game. -
Passing Game Coordinator?

On the Bills website they only list Lee as the QB coach. But you may be right. If so, he's not showing a lot of aptitude for it. -
The holes on this team are clear

I'm not sure about the assessment that TT would be a superstar behind the Dallas OL. But I pretty much agree with the list, especially #1 and #2. -
Jordan Mills on Khalil Mack...God help us...
hondo in seattle replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think Whaley had a lot of confidence in Mills. I think he just failed in finding a better FA. No GM ever builds the team he wants. Sometimes there are cap issues. Sometimes you just get outbid. Sometimes the team before you picks the guy you had targeted in the draft. I do hope though that DW makes this a bigger priority next year. It'd be too painful to see him in the starting lineup another year. Btw, is it my imagination or does Mills hold a lot? I'm not an All-22 guy and never rewatch games. But watching live it seems that Mills holds on an unusually high percentage of plays to compensate for his lack of skill. Mostly he doesn't get flagged and when he does, it's just the price we have to pay for having Mills in there. If you told him not to hold, he'd be even more of a turnstile. -
The BIlls offense has a really good running game and a really bad passing game. Going into the Jax game, I think we were ranked #1 and #32 respectively. Clearly TT needs to shoulder some of the blame. And I'm not opposed to shopping for an upgrade. But is it all on Tyrod? We're still running Roman's playbook and Roman had a certain genius for drawing up running plays and developing a strong rushing attack. He wasn't as adept developing an aerial attack. Anthony Lynn is a former high school/college/professional RB who then became a RB coach. How likely is Lynn, given his background, to create a potent passing attack to complement our already potent running game? If we go into 2017 with TT under center again, is Lynn really going to figure out how to get the most out of him? Maybe Rex should hire a passing game coordinator to work with Lynn next year when Lynn creates his own offensive playbook.

Why is Rex still lost on defense?
hondo in seattle replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't look now but after 10 games, the Bills defense is #12 in yards allowed per game. And #13 in points/game. http://www.espn.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/total/position/defense Look. There are thousands of people coaching defensive football in the U.S. and Canada. The really good ones coach at the college level. The very best of them coach in the NFL. The very, very best of them make it to DC or HC. And out of all those, only a handful are putting up better stats than Rex. I'm not saying Rex is a defensive guru. But to declare that he's "lost" just isn't reality. -
Wow, Watkins healthy and 3 targets......
hondo in seattle replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Woods was out. Harvin was out. MG was out. Watkins was coming back from an injury and on a pitch count. TT is a QB with limitations. The OL was having a bad game. And ALynn generates 28 points of offense in a win. And this is bad somehow? The Bills are scoring 27 points per game and are 5-2 since ALynn took over. Clearly the man doesn't know how to game plan. Fire him now, I say! -
Bills' Job Opening: Director of Marketing

Some who post here seem to think Rex is a clueless defensive coach. Others still think he's good at defense. I tend to think he's average, just like the numbers his D has produced this season.

I don't hate anybody - not even Donald Trump - but I do get Section122's sentiment. While I acknowledge the flaws of our HC, QB, etc, I have to root for them. I'm a fan of anyone who wears Bills colors. While the game wasn't a Super Bowl era type blowout, we still managed a win that kept us somewhat in the playoff hunt. So I whooped and hollered and celebrated like a fan. Then I was surprised when I came onto TBD and discovered other fans didn't share my enthusiasm. Kyle Williams and other Bills fought hard for that win. I'm sure Cincy fans would love to have the score reversed. Any Sunday when the Bills win is a good Sunday IMHO.

Points against crappy teams... lipstick on a pig... We can always find reasons to be negative. Hell, fate delivers us Bills fans a lot of reasons to cry. But I think the OP makes an interesting observation. Every team plays crappy teams from time to time and runs up the score when they can. It's an equal playing field. Yet the Bills - despite the injuries - are finding ways to score. A-Lynn et al ought to be commended. Clearly the situation is imperfect. Too many 3 and outs. Too many losses. Still the Bills aren't the Browns partly because the offense can be surprisingly productive.

I would be super stoked if this happened and feel pretty confident the franchise is moving in the right direction. But I'm not expecting 10-6. I'm expecting something more like 8-8 or 9-7.

The AFC Playoff Picture
hondo in seattle replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills are a very average team with an assortment of strengths and weaknesses typical of an average team. So we'll beat the poor teams left on the schedule and lose to the good ones. And this - depending on how you evaluate our opponents - will get us to 8-8 or, maybe, 9-7. Outside looking in once again. -
Thank god Mike Nugent is crappier than Tyrod
hondo in seattle replied to Maury Ballstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We all knew this in the preseason. DW didn't acquire talent everywhere. He gave Rex enough defensive talent to be competitive. And Roman enough talent on offense to build a running attack. During preseason, we all acknowledged that WR depth was a problem. As a running team, it seemed the most logical place to have a problem if we had to have a problem somewhere. With Sammy and Woods missing most of the season, and playing hurt when they find the field at all, it's haunting us. -

Shoulda lost... shoulda won... I don't count moral failures just like I don't count moral victories - because the NFL doesn't count them. When we win, it's because we played well enough to win. When we lose, it's because we didn't play well enough to win. I live a simple fan's life: I celebrate all victories and bemoan all losses. Yesterday's win kept us - barely - in the playoff picture. It was a good game. -
I always thought of Patulski as a bust - even though I knew his stats showed some productivity. I guess I was influenced by Saban's public statements. Getting the other side of the story was interesting, if sad. Glad he's doing well now. Terry Miller rushed for over 1,000 yards as a rookie at 4.5 yards per pop. Then developed vision problems that ruined his career. Not a classic bust.

Steve Tasker's HOF thoughts

Contradiction or not, I agree whole-heartedly. I'd rather see Tasker get selected than Brown. -
Jim Schwartz took Eagles 30th ranked defense to top 5
hondo in seattle replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you look at their historical rankings, both Rex and Schwartz have had good and bad years. When they have the players that fit their scheme, they get into the top ten. When they don't have the right players, the bottom ten is more likely. Their overall resumes are dramatically different. Lately, however, Schwartz has been out-performing Rex. Maybe he has a better understanding of how to stop today's offenses? I'm not yet convinced. -
Yeah, as much as injuries have hurt us, I'd rather pass on Romo even if he did become available. I know from personal experience that back problems aren't easily fixed. This says it all.

Bills Have Not Beaten Anybody
hondo in seattle replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is how it goes with .500 teams. They beat bad teams and lose to good teams. There are no surprises here. The Bills were in every game but one this year. They're just not good enough to close the deal against the better teams. Looks like 8-8, plus or minus one win, to me.
