Wouldn’t it be awesome if Belichick retired?
hondo in seattle replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
If memory serves, we've beat him 4 of the past 5 times. He's not the bogeyman anymore. He's just a coach - a good coach - but not one that I fear or much care about. He can retire or not retire. It's all the same to me. -
2022 Offensive Coordinator Search
hondo in seattle replied to wakingfane's topic in The Stadium Wall
When you're successful, there are many advantages to continuity, so Dorsey seems like the obvious choice. He knows the scheme & plays. He knows Josh. But I know so little about Dorsey, or any other option, that I won't hazard a guess. Selfishly, I want Daboll to stay. The offense is reaching new heights under his stewardship. Yep. It's called "succession planning." Good organizations do this. Beane and McD already have their Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C all worked out. -
I wonder how much Mayock was actually the GM and how much was Gruden. Obviously, Gruden was in charge. But Chucky must have left Mayock with some duties. It seemed preordained that Mayock would be gone once Gruden resigned. Still, how many sportswriters can say they actually built a playoff team? Odd he was given the chance. Don't think he'll ever have the chance again. Hope he enjoyed the experience while it lasted.

I have such a low opinion of Sully that I really believe he wrote a positive article - at least partially - to prove his critics wrong. "Look, I'm not always a Negative Nancy. I am capable of saying something positive when the Bills do something absolutely historic." I never liked his journalism because he never told me anything I didn't already know. He never broke a story. He didn't have insider knowledge. He certainly wasn't a master explainer of Xs and Os. He offered no great insights. He simply whined. It was never something I enjoyed so I stopped reading him years ago.

Pat McAfee on Saturday's Game, a great watch
hondo in seattle replied to RobbRiddick's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm glad he likes Josh but I feel like I'm watching a 13 year old. -
I agree. But most of his bad games were either in bad weather or behind a porous line, or both. When given time, JA typically performs. I think the NE playoff game shows what this offense is capable of when the OL gets the job done. Daboll is a good OC. We've got talent at the skill positions. Josh is dynamite. If the OL is blocking, this offense is really hard to stop.

Good question, Zerovolts... What's the prediction? My Chiefs friends think it'll be a shootout since both teams have high-powered offenses. They forget we won by 18 last time.
-
Both teams have great QBs. Both teams have great coaching staffs. Both teams demolished their Wildcard opponent. Both teams seem to be peaking at the right time. But screw all the equivalences. The good guys win by double-digits: Bills 38, Chefs 24.

Agreed. The other players seem to respect him and universally speak highly of Josh. And the guy is humble. He praises others and takes blame. That's a good leadership trait right there. I'd love to see how he behaves in meeting rooms, on the practice field, in the huddle, on the sidelines, etc. But the hints & indications are that he's a better leader than many/most NFL QBs.

You don't have to grab someone by the facemask and yell in his face to be a leader. Or as General Eisenhower once said, "You don't lead by hitting people over the head. That's assault, not leadership." I've led guys in combat where mistakes would potentially cost lives. I didn't get in guys faces. Most of the combat leaders I knew didn't practice that kind of leadership. Yeah, you have to hold people accountable. Yeah, you have to set high standards and make expectations freaking clear. Yeah, there needs to be some passion. But, no, you don't need to be an a-hole. I don't know if Allen is a good leader or not because I don't know what kind of interactions he has with the other players.

Thanks for the kind words, Zerovotz. Even though I recently moved to Kansas City, there's no ambivalence for me. I want the Bills to brutally crush your Chiefs. Sorry. But if the Gridiron Gods end up decreeing a Chiefs-Bucs Super Bowl, I'll wear red that day, grab some Joe's BBQ like a good Kansas Citian, and cheer for the Chiefs as loud as I can.

It’s only weird if it doesn’t work - Playoff Rituals
hondo in seattle replied to TheyCallMeAndy's topic in The Stadium Wall
In my family, we eat Buffalo Wings every game. One time this season my wife made some kind of Chinese boiled chicken in place of Buffalo wings. The Colts killed us that day. We'll never eat boiled boiled Chinese chicken again. I just recently received a Josh Allen Jersey from a friend. I wore it for the Pats playoff game. Of course, I'm not washing it and will wear it again for the Chiefs. I sometimes change up my gear and rituals with this thought in mind: If Frazier and Daboll don't change up their game plans, we'll lose. There has to be a wise balance between continuity and change. -
KC win puts Bills in better spot
hondo in seattle replied to Bluegrass Bill's topic in The Stadium Wall
If we play to our potential, we can beat anybody. If we play at our worst, we can lose to the Jags. But we seem to be peaking. The OL, in particular, is playing much better and that makes both the passing game & running game so much better. In other words, I don't care who we play. I care how we play. -

What's Your Nickname for this Game?
hondo in seattle replied to Nextmanup's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sure they are. Sometimes, as fans, we like to reminisce. So, for example, we could say: "Hey, remember that one playoff game in the 90s when we were losing to the Oilers really bad and then we came back?" But that's just too much. So instead, we just reference "The Comeback" Likewise, when you mention the No Punt Game, every Bills fan knows what you're talking about. The Comeback and the No Punt Game both have their own Wikipedia entries just like the Ice Bowl. All deservedly so. Yesterday's game will end up being one of those games that Bills fans talk about for years to come. It needs a name.
