  1. For a description of how the players' union tries to educate them: http://www.financialfinesse.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Whats-Working-Nov-11.pdf For details of financial classes the NFL already REQUIRES: http://financialadviserblog.dowjones.com/blog/stay-ahead-of-your-clients/off-the-field-training-for-nfl-hopefuls For a reasonably succinct summary of the problem:
  2. In the history of the NFL, has any GM ever said that he WOULD reach for a player in the draft?
  3. While taking out Brady with an asteroid the size of a football field has a certain appeal, I'm unclear about how big an asteroid it takes to create an "extinction event" for mankind. So I'd settle for taking Brady out with a mere house-sized asteroid (kind of like the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz) - - one came pretty close yesterday: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/46578872/ns/technology_and_science-space/t/leap-day-asteroid-zooms-harmlessly-past-earth/ Yesterday's near miss was by 446,000 miles (about twice the earth-moon distance), yet generated no discussion of keyhole passage that might create a potential for striking Brady on a future orbit. The much larger asteroid mentioned in the OP won't get that close to earth when it travels through a more distant potential keyhole 1,860,000 miles from earth in 2023. Did the orbit of yesterday's smaller, closer asteroid get changed so much yesterday that it will be farther away on the next pass, while the bigger, more distant asteroid might get a smaller future orbital change that would create the possibility of an earth strike? Or is a future house-sized earth strike merely an acceptable outcome that wouldn't generate discussion of a "deflection mission?"
  4. So how should we interpret a scientist's remark that a particular field of inquiry has entered "a whole new dimension?" http://www.springer.com/physics/particle+and+nuclear+physics/journal/10050
  5. I think it's outrageous that these types of relatonships have become so common that they are starting to be viewed as acceptable: http://www.star-telegram.com/2012/02/29/3774188/lonely-teacher-involved-with-student.html
  6. We should think outside the box on this 40 yard dash thing - - worth a look IMO: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-combine/09000d5d82745c18/Eisen-vs-the-field
  7. Howard Wolowitz also designed a robotic arm that he used to spank the monkey with humorous results. If you want details about the real life Special Purpose Dextrous Manipulator used on the International Space Station, talk to one of our Canadian scientist friends (I guess they have considerable expertise in that sort of thing in the lonely Frozen North): http://publications.gc.ca/Collection-R/LoPBdP/CIR/875-e.htm For more general info, check this out: http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/station/index.html Or just look up on a clear night: http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/index.html
  8. If you still don't believe that the US government is trying to keep underwater UFOs a secret, you need to read this: http://dailycaller.com/2012/02/21/documents-lightsquared-shaping-up-as-the-fccs-solyndra/ So the FCC props up wireless broadband company LightSquared while getting rid of competition. And when it comes time to shut down certain land-based wireless internet spectrum to prevent interference with the search for UFO wreckage - - uhh, I mean sea turtles - - the only company left in a position to complain is LightSquared. Kind of a big coincidence, don'tcha think?
  9. They say that if you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Maybe if you're Buffalo's self-reclaimed No. 1 Fan, all other Buffalo fans look like number 2.
  10. Post-tripodic stress disorder is treatable these days.
  11. Well, some people think we might draft Whitney Mercilus. I'd feel better about him if he spelled it right, but maybe after the draft we could get him to change it to Whitney "Bradysmybitch." Makes more sense than a change to "Ochocinco." While he's at it, he oughta change "Whitney" to Joe. Nobody's gonna be scared of a DE with the same first name as a dead diva. Just my 2 lira.
  12. The "dude" is named VICK, so he's gotta be pretty quick when he stays upright. Even if not, we could use him to build Kelsay's confidence in practice. If a camera tripod can cover him, Kelsay's got a shot.
  13. I think it was Kevin Thomas. He ran a 4.64 40, which was pretty slow for a CB even in 2002. As I recall, he later explained the slow time by saying he forgot to bring his shoes to the combine and ran in a borrowed pair that were too big for him. Don't know if it's true, but that was his story. http://nflcombineresults.com/playerpage.php?f=Kevin&l=Thomas&i=5916 He never played a great deal, but was a decent and improving reserve IMO until he got hurt.
  14. Couldn't remember for sure who it was - - might have been CB Kevin Thomas, taken in round 6 (176th overall) out of UNLV in 2002. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6063 It's been a while, so I might have the wrong guy. Maybe somebody else can confirm?
  15. As I recall, we once drafted a CB who ran a slow 40 at the combine because he forgot his shoes and had to borrow somebody else's that were too big. He turned out OK for us until he tore up a knee. So maybe we should draft RB Vick Ballard from Miss. State. When we drafted Thurman, he had a chip on his shoulder and used it as motivation all the way to the Hall of Fame. My guess is that Ballard will have something to prove: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/27/vick-ballard-falls-nfl-combine-40-yard-dash_n_1304672.html
  16. 25 posts, and nobody mentioned "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" - - - WTF?
  17. Trading Lee Evans reduced his cap figure for 2012, but he still counts a little over $2.3 million against the Bills 2012 salary cap: http://nyjetscap.com/Bills/bills2012.php I agree that it will be interesting to see how much of the available 2012 cap space the Bills actually spend, and for which players.
  18. Maybe a Starfleet Academy training exercise required Worf to travel back in time and advise Ralph Wilson NOT to draft 1st round RBs and DBs - - - that would have toughend him up.

  20. Well, we are both posting on a football website late at night, so maybe we're kindred spirits.
  21. If Weird Al gets the gig and the Bills make the Big Game, we can all party like it's 1699! I bet he could do a great parody of "Are You Ready For Some Football?" (if Hank Williams would let him after losing the Monday Night gig). Or better yet, do one parody of each half time performer of the last few years
  22. I've gotten no complaints about where I've been putting it lately, so speak for yourself!
  23. I agree that it was a well-researched article. Although I don't know much about it, I've read that with persistent effort, a blogger who consistently posts high quality content can sometimes generate enough traffic to make a little money from his/her blog. As others here on TBD have lamented, it can be difficult to find up-to-date NFL team salary cap information. If this guy can fill a niche by becoming a go-to source of that info, and combine it with other interesting team articles, he might eventually make some decent money from his blog. His blog site has a few adds, so I would think it's generating a small income. Most bloggers apparently make little or nothing for their efforts, but FWIW (article is over 3 years old and contains an unscientific survey about what bloggers self-reported as monthly blog income): http://www.problogger.net/archives/2009/01/02/how-much-money-do-bloggers-make-blogging/
  24. For anyone trying to evaluate what Stevie Johnson is worth, I thought this link offered an interesting perspective: http://www.nyjetscap.com/2012_Articles/steviejohnsonvalue.php
  25. MaDonna was big in the 80's - - maybe she started it.
