  1. I'm a bit salty about being forced to use a first rounder on CB after letting Gilmore go.

This has to be the opinion that confuses me the most (Not calling you out specifically), because so many people complained about what a bum and liability Gilmore was, then said Whaley better not over pay Gilmore, now everyone acts as if we handed him to the Patriots and set the team back 10 years. Confusing. The exact same thing is being said about Zay replacing Woods, and again, 99% of this board would have thrown a fit had we signed Woods to a new deal. I'm fairly confident we could win back-to-back super bowls and people would complain on this board.

  2. Huh?

Production is the ultimate decider of a players worth, not some undefinable "talent". I think the list of top tier receivers (OBJ, Brown, AJ Green, Julio, Demaryius Thomas) is pretty clear based on years of elite numbers.

I mentioned this earlier in regards to RBs, but really looking at this as you're starting a team from scratch and can pick any player at any position. Would you honestly choose Demaryius Thomas and put him on your team before Watkins? I wouldn't.

  3.

Not to be that guy but Elliot and Howard have one year of production, Shady has been productive for years. I would say they're top 5 but Shady ahead of Howard and Elliot, slightly behind Bell and Johnson.

I guess I kind of look at it as, if you're starting a franchise and can take any RB, who would it be? With that thought process, I think the youth of Elliot and Howard are what give them that slight edge. That said, I totally agree they need to prove they can keep producing.

  4. Are there any players on this team that you feel are top 5 at their position in the league? So, if given the choice of choosing any player in the league at their position, are there 4 or fewer guys you would take before them?

For me, I believe there are three:

    Incognito

    McCoy

    Watkins

Incognito - nobody on the left side that I would take over him. If talking guards in general, I could see Marshal Yanda or Trai Turner as options, but there's not anyone on the left side I like better.

McCoy - I'd take Elliott, Bell, David Johnson, Howard, then McCoy, putting him just inside my top 5.

Watkins - This is tricky because of the injuries, but given his talent, I'd take only Julio, Nelson, A. Brown and Mike Evans before Sammy, and Evans is questionable for me.

  5.

Wow he made 203 receptions in 57 games meaning 0-57 targets! How did he make almost 4-1 ratio of receptions to targets in receptions?

Okay, saying 0 targets was a bit of hyperbole, but even his stats show a player who caught 7, 8, 9, 10 passes when others weren't available to play, and 0, 1, 2, and 3 catches when there was literally anyone else available. The overall point is, he has never been appreciated by the staff, and has the skill and work ethic to be a much more productive player.

  6. I would love to see Woods back in a Bills jersey, but more so, I hope he goes somewhere he is actually appreciated, recognized and properly utilized. He has proved multiple times he is a very talented receiver, yet, unless every other WR on the team was hurt, he would get somewhere between 0 and 1 targets per game. Despite the team continually taking actions that essentially sent the message "you don't matter on this team" he went out and gave it his all, and never ran his mouth or complained. The guy is more than capable of 100 catch, 1000 yard seasons. Here's to hoping he lands in a spot where that actually happens, and he makes the absolute most of FA.

  7. It's not the HC. It's not the OC. It's not the DC. It's not even the GM or even President.

It's the Pegulas. They have no idea as to what they are doing regarding both the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres.

This is why the Pegulas should hire people to run their business and stick to signing checks.

  8. Whaley has done an okay job. I hope he not only has final say, but feels comfortable to hire the guy he wants.

I posted this in another thread as well, but my idea for the next staff:

Not sure if there are any relationships between these coaches, but my top choice would to bring in Mike Smith from TB to be HC. Dude has won at the NFL level and led his teams to the playoffs multiple times.

On Offense, bring in Matt LaFleur, Falcon's QB coach. He has great experience at both the college and NFL, with multiple responsibilities on the offensive side of the ball. He has coached RGIII and Matt Ryan to the best statistical years of their careers and was key to the development of Kirk Cousins.

Defensive Coordinator; try to get Rocky Seto, Assistant Head Coach/Defense, here from Seattle. He has been instrumental in the success of that defense, especially his work with the secondary.

  10. I also think future HC candidates are going to wonder whether it was Doug Whaley who leaked to the media and threw Rex under the bus.

I know I would want to know if the GM is going to throw me under the bus.

It's important for Whaley to be able to hire a coach he actually wants, likes, and gets along with then, I suppose.

Plus, every bit of what happened behind the doors of OBD is speculation. The public has zero idea who screwed who and who leaked what.

  11. If someone in demand has a choice between a situation where you get fired in less than two years even though you have been the most successful Bills HC in 17 years notwithstanding injuries, suspensions, bottom half QB

    V

A situation where you are be given a fair amount of time etc.

The question answers itself UNLESS the Pegulas overpay and promise that coach would be given the time etc.

How many games did Jags HC have before he got fired?

Not sure how that applies. The NFL is a results based business. We hear that all the time. The players hear it. The coaches know it. Bradley losing for 4 seasons, or whatever it was, and Rex losing for 2 and then getting fired isn't going to be used as rationalization in someone's mind when deciding whether or not to accept an offer in Buffalo.

  12. That's unlikely. Heck, JAX didn't even wait until the team plane got home lol. No, if they wanted to embarrass Rex fire him on xmas or the day after. The Bills job is only unattractive due to the QB situation. The owner has deep pockets, the Bills have talent and a strong running game. Good fan base. A more clear structure it seems with Whaley to hire the HC as is customary around the league. Not wholly unattractive, there are only 32 of these jobs and not all are open.

Completely agree with this. Unattractive? Like you said, there are 32 of these jobs. I could see maybe Jim Harbaugh or existing NFL head coaches saying no, but any high profile coordinator who wants to be a HC is not going to say, "Buffalo? Nah."
