8-8 can make a playoff spot, I think. I think TT could have done that. But we'll see what happens. McDermott made it clear he doesn't care about the playoffs this season. And maybe he shouldn't, but for this starved fanbase, I hope this was the right move. We'll see Sunday. Lose that game and then we are done.

I must have missed McDermott saying that. I thought he said something more along the lines of the moves he making are an attempt to win now.

Didn’t read 38 pages to see if this was questioned, but I wonder if facing Anthony Lynn, who should have the book on TT’s weaknesses more than anyone, had anything to do with the timing.

I would say no. TT mainly having only weaknesses, with the ability to only occasionally make good plays, probably was more likely the reason.

  3. Multiple times I've seen people just handing Baltimore wins because the rest of their schedule looks easy. When did Baltimore get good? Fun fact, they haven't. GB may be a toss up, but I expect the Packers to win that one, even without Rogers. Houston could truly go either way. No way Baltimore beats Detroit or Pittsburgh. And, don't ever underestimate the challenge of a division game, especially in the AFC North. I see a Cincy win in week 17. Cleveland looks like a win for them, but again a division game with an improving Kizer and some players coming back for them. Also, an improving Colts team just gave Pittsburgh all they could handle and beat the Texans the week before, yet a mediocre Ravens team is just going to steamroll them?

I say Ravens finish 8-8 at best, more likely 7-9

Yes I want Taylor gone and dying for a switch to Peterson, but I do feel bad for Taylor and will never question the hard work and dedication he has to this team.

But like most failed in this QB's in this league, hard work and leadership can't compensate for the lack of intangibles needed to succeed in this league.

There's a reason why the guy was a 6th round pick and backup in Baltimore and now it's time to find out if Peterman is the same type of guy or perhaps the next steal.

I agree. Peterman is the only way to go now. But, I also thought that was apparent before now.

Tyrod's great days are mediocre for other QBs, his good days are far below average, and his bad days, like we saw today, leave people asking how he ever played football beyond college. Sure, he'll make a play that wows now and then, but people get a little over excited when he actually does something like 200 yards and 2 TDs, which is completely meh. Not sure why the coaches don't admit they also recognize how not good he is.

I hope I'm wrong as well but don't see it happening.

Another stat I just posted in a different thread that isn't working in our favor is that the Saints are only the 3rd team in NFL history to start 0-2 and then win the next 6 or more straight. The other two went on to win the SB (93 Cowboys, 07 Giants).

I knew the Giants one, but wasn't aware of the Cowboys. Interesting stuff.

Fun fact, after the Giants won 6 straight they lost to the Cowboys to fall to 6-3.

Here's the problem with this excuse regarding not having the talent to overcome the preparation for a TNF, if a team like the Jets who probably equal or worse than Buffalo in terms of talent, what should that say about this team especially since we didn't just lose but got throttled?

An astute fan would say to himself/herself that yes this team is not for real and is about to get destroyed by much better teams like the Saints even with 10 days to prepare.

Fair point, but I disagree about the Saints game. I did not feel good about the Jets game. We did not play them well the first time this year, I was not expecting much different on Thursday night, and games in the division are always tough. When looking at the schedule when we were sitting there at 5-2, that was honestly the game that had me the most nervous.

However, I expect us to beat the Saints this Sunday. Luckily, we only have about 6 days until we find out if that expectation is correct or not.

The Thursday night loss was not indicative of who this team has been for most of the season. From the get-go the entire team just looked tired. It throws off their entire schedule, it throws off how they practice, they have question marks on who can/should practice, every player at this point in the season is hurting in some form and they weren't able to rest/rehab as they normally would. This isn't an excuse but an explanation. And then throw in the travel on top of that and the fact that it was on the national stage right as a lot of people started buying in and calling them a playoff team, it makes the loss sting that much more. The minute people are saying, "This Bills team is for real" is the minute they have their worst game of the season. They were just sluggish and got out-played. With 10 days to rest and prepare they'll hopefully get back into form and play a better game against the Saints. The hope is that they can go 5-3 on both halves of the season to finish at 10-6. Unless the injury bug comes through and decimates the roster, I don't think we should expect the "same ol' Bills" implosion and see them go 2-6 over these next eight games. They're under much better leadership than previous seasons and I think the team just has too much heart to let the Jets loss get in their heads and revert them back to a mindset of "Oh man, here we go again, let's just mail it in and hope we escape each game healthy." McDermott has higher expectations than that and I think his players wanna do all they can to live up to his expectations as well as their own.

I was trying to get at this earlier in the thread as well. Yea, most teams have a short week for TNF, but the fact is, we do not have the talent to overcome that. We depend on practice, scheme, and being in the right place to create opportunities. The short week hurt us, I believe, more than it does some other teams with players that can take over and just dominate.

Don't get me wrong, I think this is a very strong team, but it's not as dependent on top 10 talent type players as it is on coaching and preparation.

I don't think its that we have 3 losses, just at HOW we lost on Thursday that raised question marks all over the place.

The pain I felt on Thursday believe it or not, still lingers. I'm not part of the "we're doomed" crowd. But I was brought back to Earth on Thursday.

I'm hoping it was just one of those days because this time, the whole team was trash. Not just the offense.

The smarter part of my brain tells me that we need turnovers to actually have a chance at winning games and that worries me. I mean really worries me. Like saviorpeterman kind of worried.

I think the Thursday game was difficult because we do not have superstar talent on this roster that can just take over and win games with ability. This team needs to rely on scheme and preparation to be successful, which is why I think Incognito was so frustrated.

YES, the Jets also had a short week, and most teams that play on Thursday night have short weeks, so it is "fair" in that sense. But, I think the limited preparation time definitely affects teams differently. Aaron Rogers, Brady, AJ Green, Zeke...guys like that are gonna go out and play and can win whether they have 2 days off or 10. This team does not have talent to that level, and they need the preparation time to make sure they play smart and know exactly what they are doing.

This is who the Bills are until they prove otherwise

There are more things different about this team (e.g. owners, coaches, players, scheme, mindset, culture, etc.), than there are things that a similar to those teams, so I'm gonna go ahead and say it is time to quit comparing them to teams from the last 17 years.

17 years no playoffs. The answer to everything.

Time to quit living in the past. Yea, the last 17 years have sucked, and left many with a bad taste in their mouth, but let it go.

This team has a lot happening for them that teams of the last 17 year haven't. Try to take the time to be a little optimistic about our decent start. You may enjoy it.

Look at who we face in the next four games.

The Saints will be a tough game, no doubt. But at least we get them in Buffalo, with hopefully some less than ideal weather conditions.

If the Chargers scare you at all, I don't know what to say. Fun side note, they've scored 24 less points than us on the season.

Chiefs can be beat, Dallas just proved that. Yes, Dallas has looked good in recent weeks, but they are far from being a dominant team. Chiefs also dropped a game to Oakland, who we dismantled. Not saying this game is easy, but we can win it. It is not like it is impossible.

Patriots in Buffalo after that. Yea, a division game against the Pats is always going to be a challenge, even at home.

Let's play the games before we write our season off as over though.

  12. Currently, in the AFC, the Bills, Dolphins, Titans, Jaguars, and Chiefs all have three loses. Are all of their seasons over too, or is it just us?

Aside from the Patriots and Steelers (and the teams mentioned above), everyone else has more than 3 loses. They must really be doomed! I cannot even imagine how negative  the fans on those boards must be.

What about the NFC? Is three losses after week 9 a nail in the coffin in that league too, or is it just an AFC thing? Or, is it just a Bills thing? I just want to make sure I fully understand the state of hysteria and misery I should be in.

  13. If we beat the Jets I still think splitting w/New England and giving one up to the Chiefs makes 13-3 look quite difficult. Maybe 12-4 with a win against the Jets. Irregardless, its all a mute point now anyhow.

I get that...just didn't explain both scenarios all the way through. My fault. But, since we're getting to the technicalities, it's "moot".
