I don't have any stats but I do recall hearing recently that the % of jr QBs' coming out early has risen dramatically recently, especially for 1st round prospects. If true then the number of good players with lower than the requisite number of starts would likely go up, I guess?

Stop the Wilson bashing, just buy the team

GB had it grandfathered in and I don't see the NFL doing it again. Which sucks because it is hard to argue with the success of GB and the following they have. Although having Favre and Reggie White and a bunch of winning seasons likely helped. Pre Reggie White, GB was a laughing stock where no one wanted to play...sound familiar -
On the surface there aren't many misses using the system outlined, it would make me wary drafting someone that didn't qualify given how it seems to have panned out.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/john_lopez/07/08/qb.rule/index.html I remember the above article and thought it was interesting, hell it can't be worse than the Bills current technique. Fitz makes the list but I would imagine playing in the Ivy league may skew some numbers

The company line is that they have Endleman and Tate, while both are very quick both are very green at playing wr. If they can stretch the defense then the loss of moss won't be as great. They seem to win without a key running back and turn cast aways into pro bowlers so I guess they will get the benefit of the doubt. There is no way this trade helps the Pats short term ( next few weeks) longer term who knows

It does seem very Fryesque, going from starter to off the team isn't something you see very often. I wish Trent well, I do feel a little sorry for him. He was drafted by the Bills and got hammered game after game and developed a nervous disorder. He had his share of opportunities to turn it around and he couldn't do it. If he was going to be a distraction in the locker room the move makes sense, it certainly wasn't done for financial reasons. That being said, given our offensive line it is very likely that Brohm will see the field at some point in the season (knock on wood). I guess we will see if he has any upside. Go Fitz.

I saw that and thought-this guy could be the dumbest guy on the planet. Called for it last week, busted for DWI this week, has to sit out the first quarter and he does it again?

Some thoughts on the position of QB
agardin replied to indiragandhi'sthong's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There was a quote, I wished I remembered who said it but it was something like: 'Erick Dickerson has a hard time understanding the salary cap because he never had one at SMU' -
Missing a 47 yard field goal is not a fluke, it happens all the time. I have always thought Norwood took too much blame for that loss. He wasn't good that year and I remember talk of bringing in another kicker during the season, oh well. If the Giants have that jersey hanging anywhere in their facility it does make them look like losers, they probably should be highlighting Anderson's who kept our offense on the sideline for most of the game.

Some thoughts on the position of QB
agardin replied to indiragandhi'sthong's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is part of the intrigue with Kolb, he has been learning for the last couple of years. Is a really good QB? I have no idea, I am sure NFL scouts would have an informed oppinion on that. So if they answer yes to the question, you would have a QB that has gone through a lot of growing pains already and therefore should be NFL ready sooner than a QB drafted next summer. -
Marcus McNeill signs 1-yr tender with SD
agardin replied to bills44's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I did say that in the next sentence after the bolded part. What if the franchise tag remains in the CBA, he could be a Charger for another year. I guess he never should have held out in the first place. Sometimes you gotta know when to fold em. Unless he is traded to the Cowboys and JJ gives him a ton of money. If he is traded what would be the compensation? It would be more than a first for most teams, the Bills number 1 would get it done as it will be a high pick. I wouldn't do it, if this pick does turn out to be the number 1 pick in the draft it would be worth more than McNeil. -
I might start Aaron Hernandez as he will likely be covered by our LBs. Not a good situation. I have Shiancoe against Detroit so I might not.

Marcus McNeill signs 1-yr tender with SD
agardin replied to bills44's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I find it hard to believe that a guy would hold out and then sign to play for the lower pro rated tender. 440k for the rest of the year, why bother? It does allow him to use this year as a year of service but I wouldn't be surprised if he is traded. I would imagine the Cowboys would be interested. The Bills should be but this will be an expensive acquisition. -
By most accounts Kolb has a bright future ( heaven knows the pundits are never wrong ) He has been learning the position over the last few years and won the starting job and made McNabb expendable. I would have no problem with the Bills trading a 2nd round pick for him, I think the price will be higher than that but I guess we shall see. Everyone keeps saying how deep next years draft is at QB so I suppose it might be doable. I think the eagles keep him until the trade deadline to see whether the Vick hot streak continues. They did just sign him to an extension that included a 10 mil + signing bonus. I am not sure how that plays out with a trade. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5148880 Early rumblings have Cleveland in the mix which might also drive the price up. In the above scenario, the question is: Is Kolb for a second round pick ( and maybe a player ) less risky than a spending a 1st rounder on a Qb next year. My guess is the answer is yes. Also to be considered, anyone the Bills draft next year might take a few years to develop into a solid QB. Kolb could provide that in a much shorter time frame.

I know we are just spitballing here and having some fun but.....Harvin is complaining of migraines again. At least that is what I heard on NFL radio on sirius on the ride home from work. Not sure how bad but that would put even more heat on the Vickings. If there was ever a team that has a short superbowl window it is them. Not to mention the owner is trying to rangle a new stadium out of the state. A playoff run for them is imperative. PS- I am not entirely sure it is a good idea, I guess it all depends on what the Bills get back. It is likely that we will be drafting a rookie Qb next year thus prolonging Evans lack of production. -

I hear what you are saying saying about the illiquidity of the NFL trade market but they do happen. The last precedent involving a good WR ( in my shaky memory ) was the Dallas trade for Williams. If that was the sort of compensation coming back to the Bills would anyone not take it. The Lions traded their receiver Roy Williams for the Cowboys' 1st, 3rd, and 6th round picks. The Lions also threw in their own 7th round pick in the big trade. -
Rooting for Brady? You're a dad now and it isn't just about you anymore. What kinda example is that for someone so young.

The Bills have been compared to the Pirates, well there is one thing the Pirates ( and Blue Jays ) have done recently that should start to pay dividends. Build the biggest and best scouting staff in the NFL. It will cost RW a lot less to pay a scout than to overpay guys like Walker and Dockery as well as help eliminate first round errors which are really cost prohibitive. Nix is an old scout, he has to make the case that it is the economical way to go. If you plan on building through the draft you better have the best information available. Baseball and Football are fundamentally different when it comes to building farm systems ect.. but if you want a winner that keeps producing and you want to ditch players when they really want to get paid you need a first class scouting department. I know it is obvious but it also true that it obviously hasn't happened at OBD. That should be the first goal and it is realistic.

A realistic goal for the season would be putting the Depends on one leg at a time. Yes I am bitter. Seriously, try and improve every game, get the 3-4 system in place and then find out who should be here and who should be gone. Figure the personel so that the Bills go into next season with a very firm grasp on where the holes are. It has been a long time since the team was decent and it is going to take a few more. Unless Nix is not the GM we are hoping for then it is rinse and repeat 3 years from now.

Jimmy Clausen era starts this Sunday in Carolina...
agardin replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was shocked when the Bills didn't take him in the second round, I would have been on board with moving back up to the first round which turned out not to be necessary. Hell I would have taken him 9th overall. I know everyone else passed on him as well but I never saw the warts apparently every GM saw. Who knows how he will do but I thought he was a first round grade QB. It doesn't matter now, the Bills didn't draft him and will likely be using a first round pick on a QB next year so that means another year of the craptacular that is the Bills offense. -
The only thing I 'asked' going into the season...
agardin replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would be for two TE sets only with back up OL in those spots, FB lead blocking and play goal line offense for the entire first quarter of the game. 3 yards and a cloud of dust. If nothing else, most OL love to run block. Just tell them for one quarter you get to tee off on the D line and LB of NE. That might set a physical tone for the rest of the game. It will kill the clock and tire out the DL and who knows maybe we break a run. Edwards or whomever stays in though just to make them think that the Bills may change their minds and pass at anytime. 9 in the box means that the WRs will have one on one coverage. That and a couple of good returns from the special teams is the only way we come within 21 points of NE. It will be boring to watch but drastic times call for drastic measures. If for some crazy reason it actually works just keep er going -
That is true, it just looked like he was beat and then made a grab for the leg. Of course I have no idea as to the level or severity of his injury
