State funding for RWS Stadium improvements?
agardin replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills have another advantage in that there are approx. 25K Canadians crossing the border and spending foreign capital. The circular flow of money argument would dictate that money spent by locals would find another home and the net impact of the Bills staying or leaving would be negligible. Instead of tickets, jerseys or parking fans would go to the movies, buy other clothes and spend their disposable income another way. Canadians spending money in WNY is all net gain. Small point but important. -
It was very smart. Punt it away, no one gets hurt. I have always thought the quick punt should be used more in certain situations. If I recall correctly Randall Cuningham had a 73 yarder once on a 3rd and 30 or something like that. Anyway, they didn't care about getting the first down, didn't feel like running it so why not give it back to them without risk of injury.

Yikes I am hurtin, need the Giants to salvage the weekend. The way things are going for me bet the farm on GB to cover big

So what do people think of Alex Smith?
agardin replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It shows what can happen when a franchise get back on track. I am glad for him that Harbaugh showed patience with him ( he did draft a QB though) and gave him another chance. Truth was that Smith was his best option at the time and it has worked out. There is no doubt in my mind that Smith has proven to be an NFL starter in the right situation, something that I couldn't say before. -
The Bills need a back up that has a shot a developping into a legit starter. Quinn hasn't shown it thus far but I am not sure he has had the chance. Mangini hated him from the get go and Tebow passed him. It is interesting that Quinn was the number 2 coming out of camp but the Broncos thought the season was over and decided to throw Tebow to the wolves. Tebow won and Quinn never got a chance to show if he has progressed. He looked like all of his confindence was erased during his time in Cleveland and I am not sure he has it back. If the Bills are going to sign ND QBs, I think Clausen might be the better option. Newton is entrenched and Clausen would have a higher ceiing than Quinn. He was thrown into a very bad situation in Carolina and seeing how he progressed from his freshman year to the end at ND I wouldn't be surprised to see him succeed at the NFL level. The Bills could offer a 5-6th for his services. If they were going to draft a development QB in those rounds of the upcoming draft, might as well use that pick for a guy who has at least been in the NFL for a couple of seasons.

Starting a franchise with 5 players...
agardin replied to deep2evans's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No order, the same players as mentioned by most. All will be in their primes for the next 5 years. Rodgers Thomas Calvin Johnson Suh Jason Pierre Paul Graham or Gronk are tempting but so are a bunch of guys. Too bad there aren't any Bills mentioned. Dareus could be at this time next year, the problem is that I can't think of anyone else who might have a shot. Never mind top 5 players, how about pro bowlers? -
Follow the money. Here are the franchise tag numbers. This illustrates the hardest to replace and impact by position. I believe the four positions outlined are the highest. This is where the money is being spent for a reason. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d8247df3a/article/franchisetag-values-will-be-down-across-the-board-in-2012

I bet the over in the Balt v Texans 35.5 Saints covering 3.5 Saints/San Fran over 46.5 Broncos covering 13.5 Giants covering 9 I guess I am pulling for the road teams.

TEBOW!!! is a Jet! (finally)
agardin replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was the win Tebow needed to secure his spot next year. If he had a bad game, after faltering at the end of the season, I have no doubt Denver would have made a move to replace him. Great game for him today, over 300 yards in regulation time and he even had a few dropped on him that were right between the numbers. I love seeing the experts eat crow. -
No one loves a good conspiracy more than me but IMO Gabbert was a consensus top half of the first round pick at least. I doubt Mayock's grade and backing had any influence, but you never know. One sure thing is that no NFL GM will admit to being influenced by an analyst's view on a prospect.
-
I saw that, he was referring to a good match up but I rolled my eyes as well. I remember thinking, that is something Chan would try. That being said, I like Mayock as a commentator.

Teams that could take Peyton Manning
agardin replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would say the Jets. Sanchez is brutal. Jets OC is interviewing for a some HC jobs, if he leaves, Manning could go to NY and install his offence. This would be a selling point for him as any new hire would agree to Manning play calling games. Sanchez takes a back seat, he is a few years into his rookie contract so there likely isn't too much salary to carry. The Jets would have to clear salary to make it work. Not sure of the cap hit but maybe cutting Santonio Holmes clears some. Sanchez is so bad that a healty Peyton on that team would instantly make them a top AFC Superbowl contender. As for the Bills, maybe they can play on his charitable disposition. Or they can offer to pay him more than anyone else and draft Floyd or Jefferies to make him happy. Money is a great equalizer so you never know. Maybe Ralph gets a visit from the ghost of Christmas past. -
No love for Michael Floyd? I am an admitted ND fan and have watched almost all of his starts and there is no way he is not going to be an impact receiver in the NFL. Draft stock is being hurt by some off field stuff but by every account that I have heard/read he has made the right choices since. Big target, decent blocker, not a pure burner but has decent speed. He will fight for the not so great passes, which would be helpful for any QB but perhaps more so with Fitz. I am for taking the BPA. If that is a front 7 or OL that would also make me happy so I will not be upset if the Bills pass on Floyd. That being said, if the Bills open next year with Floyd, Johnson, insert 3 receiver,Spiller and a healthy Jackson it would be a very potent offense. The Bills need this pick to work out, that I do know.

If Peyton Manning goes to the Jets...
agardin replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/jeff_diamond/01/03/colts.andrew.luck/index.html?sct=nfl_bf3_a4 This is a pretty good run down of the Manning options for the Colts. -
If Peyton Manning gets healthy and with Polian gone....
agardin replied to Bufcomments's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have no idea how this will play out but from I have heard there is a strong liklihood that Manning would be released prior to a massive roster bonus due in March or something like that. If Indy could actually trade Manning and get the picks they potentially could be set for years. -

agardin replied to Bufcomments's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I haven't seen or heard rumours of a back story here. Did the Polians want to keep Mannning but Irsay wants to move on and draft a QB? Or is it the other way around? I am assuming it has something to do with Manning. If Peyton wanted to come to Buffalo ( and I am laughing while I am typing) I would be very good with that. Instant credibility, sign D. Bowe or another top end receiver and some D help and the Bills are in the playoffs at least. If I was a 92 year old owner I would do it, F the kids and their inheritance, sponges the lot of them. -
Raheem Morris is gone in Tampa

Spagnola just got canned in St. Louis.

Former Bills who are in the Post Season for the first time
agardin replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Takeo Spikes misses again, the TV commentators mentioned that he has never played a playoff game in his 12 year career. I doubt he thought that streak would continue when he went to the Chargers. I feel bad for the guy. -
Any coaches out there that the Bills can use for their D? If Spagnola and Crenell become available they would be my choices for the D coordinator job that may be open, it would require a increase in payroll so................

There was a somking section outdoors away from anyone. No one was blowing smoke in any faces. There is zero health risk from having an outdoor smoking section removed from patrons. It is not a right but it is also not very accomodating to a significant portion of your fans. Why get rid of the smoking section? They (politicians and activists groups) are creating a situation where if someone isn't going to quit for the right reason they will make you quit for the wrong reasons. And don't say second hand smoke kills because having a smoking section along the fence at the stadium will not cause anyone any harm. People have negative reaction to political groups imposing their will over others. The key words below are 'motivate smokers to try to quit' Removing more and more places where people can smoke is a very active strategy. Here it is right from NY State DOH. Their stated goal is to rid the state of tobacco use. They do not say to have an accomodating society where people who smoke can live alongside non smokers in peace and harmony in a safe environment for non smokers. http://www.health.ny.gov/prevention/tobacco_control/ The program began in January 2000, and is built on a foundation of community partners using evidence-based strategies from the Guide to Community Preventive Services to decrease tobacco use. Over time, the program has effectively implemented a strong clean indoor air law, maintained support for high tobacco taxes to keep the price of tobacco high, and worked to increase access to effective cessation services and motivate smokers to try to quit. As a result of programmatic efforts, youth and adult smoking rates are at their lowest levels on record.

Having smoking outside by the fences was fine. This is over kill. Going to the game, for some, involves having some beers which also brings in the social smokers. I would bet that 1/4 of all people attending the games partake. ( NY has a 17% smoking rate over all) Why not accomodate all of the fans, keep the smoking to the outside areas and out of the concourses. If the smoking areas really bother you then I think you should take it easy, you might give yourself a heart attack. Live and let live. This was likely driven by someone other than Ralph. I would bet it came from Erie county as they are involved with the stadium. If you smoke get used to it, politician will always make hay at your expense. The Onion had a funny pictorial of this point http://www.theonion.com/articles/cigarette-tax-hike-to-pay-for-iraq-war,9753/

Bill's have a chance against Denver
agardin replied to VirginiaMike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It turns out that Tebow does turn the ball over, 4 ints today so I guess I wasn't completely wrong. Good win, tough to say whether this win will carry forward to next year. It does help a team not to lose 9 in a row but how much I don't know. That win may save some peoples jobs though. -
OFFICIAL BILLS vs TEBOWS GAMEDAY THREAD
agardin replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jerome Simpson from the Bengals had an amazing TD in the first half. Unbelievable play, I am sure you will see it replayed 1000 times. -
This is it in at nutshell. The Jets wouldn't have signed or retained him at 5 million, 500K is a different matter.
