  1. 'Don't draft another californian QB' was a popular and equally silly sentiment on these boards over the years. Sure ND is a highly exposed program but so is Alabama and lots of other tier 1 NCAA program. Is there a big school bias? Sure there is but to place a higher draft grade to a prospect from Alabama over ND because Brady Quinn and Jimmy Clausen haven't panned out isn't prudent. To answer the original question. I am BPA kinda guy but I also subscribe to the theory that franchise QB trumps all. So QB if there is one there and if the Bills end up with Teo I would be OK with that as well. The QB could come from the historically fertile QB schools such as Miami (OH), Purdue, Vanderbilt, Delaware, Baylor, Cal and Auburn. As I said, using a schools history of producing impact NFL players as a draft screen is just plain silly.
  2. They will not make the playoffs but they wouldn't be the Bills if they didn't make a run and fall just short. That way the fans could look back at the Titans and Pats games and say "if only". The Bills will then have a half decent record and a resulting 8-15 slot in the draft. Make no mistake, the Bills will find a way to frustrate their die hards. Sadly, I am one of them.
  3. I have heard Trestman is widely respected in the NFL. If there is one place he could find a home in the NFL it would be in Buffalo. The Bills/Wilson's history with CFL coaches and players obviously has precedent. It could be the only city in the NFL that wouldn't automatically pan the idea.
  4. I don't see it happening but I would be pleased if he ended up coaching the Bills. He woud be a top flight hire and would come in with instant credibility. I think the Cowboys make more sense though.
  5. I miss the Bills, even though they frustrate me, I do miss them. I am in fantasy pools and like but it is not the same.
  6. The play calling was and has been brutal. My personal opinion is that Chan is stubborn and holds a offensive philsophy that he will never bend. He won't change it due to game specifics or lack of players that can execute his game plan. A good coach adapts to the situation, Chan simply won't. That wildcat play is only the most recent glaring example. Empty backfields on 3 and 2s? Play calling like you are down by 14 instead of ahead? The Bills personel dictates that they should be 3 yards and a cloud of dust. ( almost ) The play call breakdown mentioned above works for me. Run to throw Chan, it isn't rocket science.
  7. I hope your right but Zona has a very good D. That would be a big road win.
  8. I can see 4 wins Tenn Miami once Jacksonville Rams not a gimme but after the Bills start is any team? Maybe the jets in a nothing game. So I'll go $50 against a 9 and 7 and a playoff birth. It will be the happiest I'll ever be paying a bet so why not. Who do you see the Bills taking a spot from, Pitt, maybe Denver or SD?
  9. Say what you want about Marty, he always put together competitive squads. There are a bunch of solid HC candidates. What about the younger Gruden?
  10. I think Gailey makes it through the season and then the whole thing is blown up. Their schedule is supposed to be easier on the back end so maybe Gailey makes it to 6 and 10 but it won't be enough to save his, Fitz's and Nix's job. Fitz may not make it past the next game although Gailey seems stubborn and may just ride with Fitz the whole way. Whaley takes over and brings his own cast of misfit toys and then rinse and repeat. Believe it or not I am a very optimistic person, as much as I was pulling for them, they just can't execute at the NFL level. Nix may survive as the team on paper is better than its playing, but if you are starting over then start over. I would love to be wrong about my prediction but i dont see 10 and 6 and a playoff spot. I would need the Hubble to see that. Go Bills!
  11. I don't care about past mistakes, I only care about the future. I would tell them to pump as much money into scouting as possible. Make the Bills the place of choice for the top talent evalutors in the game. Buddy knows who's good and who's not in the scouting world. Pro and amateur scouts don't care where the team plays, what the practice facilities are like and endorsement contracts they may be giving up if they work for the Bills. Pay them and make them accountable. This would also require the Bills to commit to an identity as a franchise and stick to it. This plan is also cheaper in the long run. Build up assets so that when players want big money you just say good bye. Then I would tell them to fix the Nacho situation, that fellow convinced me, it is not acceptable. Loaded Nachos for all.
  12. The best all round back in football in his day. Happy Birthday Thurman, a true Bill. I was at a game a few years back and Thurman was hanging out of one the suites waving a T shirt and getting the crowd going. Very cool. http://nflfilms.nfl.com/2012/05/16/this-day-in-football-buffalo-bills-great-thurman-thomas-is-born/ Some nice footage.
  13. Bills build up a halftime lead. Sanchez is Tebooed off the field. Chan then calls 20 straight passing plays and Fitz is picked off twice. Jets make it close and Tebow almost pulls it off but is picked off by Gilmore after Williams hits him as he throws. I like Chan but I don't want to see the run abandoned as it seemed to be last year.
  14. Thats one. Anymore? Not crack but Broadway Joe loved the booze and those knees were pretty bad. That being said, ole Joe could probably run a sub 5.8 forty.
  15. I noticed no mention of McKelvin. Is there any chance he improves. I thought he made the leap from not very good to just below average last year. If he can make a giant leap to better than average that would be great.
  16. Bills and the points. Tebow is used throughout the game but more in the fourth quarter and rallies the Jets but they come up short. So begins Tebow 2 Electric Boogaloo.
  17. I thought the same thing, they were talking about Graham's speed and while 4.41 is not slow it would not make Graham an outlier. Numbers in the low 4.3s do. I know that doesn't translate directly into football skill but if you are drafting a pure speed-- numbers to the sideline guy-- it is helpful is he is a true burner
  18. I am hoping to go to the Miami game as well. I've heard that you can walk up to the stadium and pick up seats at half of face. Cheap seats, sunshine and a Bills win, could be a perfect afternoon.
  19. Draft the BPA. Things have a habit of changing. What was once a dire need can change and what was a position of strength can change. Lets face it, the latter is pretty rare on the Bills current roster. You could make a logical argument for any position filled by the Bills'selection in round 1. Drafting for need ahead of projections, by definition, reduces the quality of the players you drafted. There are obvious exceptions to every rule but I am for the Bills taking the person that has the best chance to be pro bowl type player for many years. I am for Floyd but I won't be pissed at any of the usual suspects mentioned in this thread. As for Easley, didn't the Bills make a play for Meachem this off season? If that is true, they are looking to upgrade the current depth chart at WR. Who knows what will happen this weekend, it is going to be fun.
  20. Floyd is my pick. Offense with Jackson, Spiller, Johnson, Floyd, Chandler and a batch of pretty good 3rd or 4th WRs would be nice. Floyd is a big, physical player that can go up and compete for balls and has decent if not blinding speed. That is a skill set I haven't seen from anyone on the current roster. Floyd is also a pretty decent blocker which doesn't hurt. OL and D depth the rest of the way. That being said, I wouldn't hate it if the Bills took a gamble with Wilson if he falls far enough.
  21. I am a ND fan and I am biased. I also watched almost every game this kid played. Anyone who doubts his talent as a football player is nuts, he would be a steal at ten. He is big, fights for balls and is universally seen as the best blocking WR in the draft. The offense ran through him, he was doubled as much as any college player and he still produced and a great rate. He can do it all at the position and represents the least risk if available at ten. And yes I am including his off field incidents. PS-The route tree that Gailey runs will, more often than not, require Floyd to get separation at the line not ten yards downfield. Floyd will come in physically mature enough to play at the NFL level to accomplish this and I would imagine would get better with experience.
  22. I would love Floyd at 10. There is no doubt in my mind that he will excel in the NFL. Although Reiff did have a 20 minute foot chase with police which does show pretty good foot speed for a big guy. I can't wait for the draft. Does Floyd slide past Miami now that Brandon Marshall is gone? http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1695597
  23. It is a game of match ups. If you have a shutdown corner you can roll coverages and/or send an extra guy. If you have a elite pass rusher the opponent will need to double your guy and leave match up problems elsewhere. If you have both then you will likely win a lot of games. That is why the CB and elite pass rusher are on the higher end of the pay scale. You can't take seven step drops and throw into good coverage and you can't take 7 step drops if there are guys in your QBs face. It is true that witout any pass rush the QB will make a play but the longer it takes (the better your coverage) the harder it is for an Oline to hold its' blocks. I don't know if anyone counts coverage sacks vs regular sacks but that is a stat I would like to see, especially over the last few years. It is an offensive league and the rule changes do make it harder to defend the pass but in the end if you need two to block my one and I can have one cover your best one and then double your second best then I will have a good day on D.
  24. I wouldn't mind that also as Claiborne will likely be gone. Day 1 starter, 6'3 224 and just ran a 4.47 40 with obvious play making ability. I am biased as I am a ND fan but there is no doubt in my mind that he is going to be a very good pro. I know the Bills need help with the pass rush but selecting Floyd would be a good move. Johnson, Floyd, Jackson, Spiller, Chandler and now very good batch of 3th and 4th recievers gives the Bills a nice complement of skill players. Spend the rest of the draft on D players and Oline depth. PS- Could be good leverage in the Johnson negotiations and I am assuming that Jackson is resigned.
  25. Maybe she is in to BB proclivity to video tape stuff.
