I don't see anyone here that suggests Fitz is the only problem. Anyone with a pulse knows the defense is a massive problem. That's what makes the pick against Tennessee MORE maddening. We all knew Tennessee would score on our horrendous defense. Yep. We are. -

The more I look at this team, the more I think we are closer to the playoffs than we think. Honestly, I think if we had a different coaching staff, a QB who was accurate, and a LB corps, we would be damn good. I think the D is handcuffed by scheme and lack of talent at the LB position. We have sent only 3 or 4 rushers on 82% of defensive snaps, with very limited success. When do we put in blitz packages? Our LBs are undersized and brutal vs the run. All of this makes our DBs look terrible, but I think with a consistent effective pass rush and ability to stop the run, the defensive backfield looks much better. Offensively, I think the o line is solid, we have great backs and WRs who are better than many think. Chandler is a decent TE. Of course that brings us to Fitz, who's accuracy and lack of deep arm strength has been chronicled enough on here. Why we continuously put out 5 WR sets and put the onus on Fitz is beyond me. Again, I think this takes away from the strength of our team. There are building blocks there. If we prioritize the coaching staff, QB and LB positions in the offseason, I think we can be very good. Reading that last statement, I see how tall an order this will be.

I'd say RGIII is an example of why you do. This. And this. And this. Lol. And, finally, this. Trading up for Losman was a panic move. He had a decent arm but lacked accuracy and intangibles. If, and that's a big if, we ever get a FO with balls and an eye for talent, hopefully they will recognize you need to be solid at the QB position to win in this league.

I tried explaining my position in a rational way, but to no avail. I swear your name was PDaddy in a previous TSW life. Enjoy your magazines and photoshopped images.

Priority #1 - Get total autonomy in the running of the organization. No owner or other executive interference. Priority #2 - Change the culture. This means firing Chan and Wannstedt. Interview current staff and look elsewhere to see who wants to implement a more attacking style defense. QB's are staying clean, that has to change. Our DB's might be able to cover if they aren't doing it for 4 or 5 seconds. Mandate that we have to run-blitz. The defense has to be the #1 priority. Priority #3 - Change the offensive philosophy and play-calling. We need to get away from 5 wide sets and run the football. This accomplishes the following: it chews time and yardage, it keeps our defense off the field (hopefully) and it reduces the pressure on Fitz, which he cannot handle. We have to win the TOP, especially vs. the quick strike, defense deficient Patriots. Priority #4 - Address next year's needs. First I clean house in the organization and find young people with energy and drive and ambition. Pour money into scouting. How many JPP's are out there that we miss? Short list top coordinators and find a Harbaugh or Tomlin that are well respected by players and flat-out winners. Then I address personnel. QB and LB are two major areas of need. I'm all for drafting a top QB if we draft in the top 3, but LB is a serious area of need on this team. We need intense game changers on the defensive side of the ball. I do everything I can to keep our O-line intact, including adding one or two in the draft. However, my focus has to be adding some studs on defense. I'd also be looking at WR's who can complement Stevie. As for QB, I cut Fitz at the end of the season and hand the keys to TJax or a rookie I have drafted. This is purely an economic move. I don't see TJax as an upgrade at all (though I need to see it to verify it), but he is the cheaper option. Priority #5 - Limit the big splash FA signings. I know it's been 13 years since playoffs, but the team philosophy has to be to grow from within. Look at the Steeler's model, they have a "next man up" philosophy. I want that for my team. The entire loser mentality has to change. That starts from the top down.

My purpose is to debate....there is absolutely no debate that our defense is terrible, yet Fitz apologists are consistently looking for other scapegoats to mask his mistakes. If Fitz played mistake free football, I'd love it. I don't hate Fitz. I just don't think he's an answer to any QB problem. The reason I continuously harp on it is because you and others keep blaming others for his role in our current slide. Fitz played good enough to win UNTIL he threw that horrendous pick. And he does that time after time after time. So yeah, I'm going to argue with you. It's almost like only one thing can be wrong with this team and how dare I mention anything but our defense. However there can be more than one thing wrong and there is. Our defense is so deplorable that it makes it even more important that Fitz, as QB, doesn't turn the ball over. He did, with a terrible throw and decision in a terrible spot. He deserves to be called out for it, as even he has stated himself. I don't mention the defense a great deal because it's a no-brainer. Anyone with a pulse knows our defense is historically terrible. I do mention Fitz because people's man-crush on him runs so deep that it blinds them to reality. Therefore it's a healthy debate. If we were Chiefs fans, I doubt we'd be having QB arguments because Cassel is universally thought of as terrible. However, we are Bills' fans and you seem to be stuck on our quick start last year because that is the only plausible reason to support Fitz. But his career stats don't lie, especially his W - L stats, which, as many people were quick to state after the Arizona game, is the only stat that matters. I wish Fitz was better. I wish he'd take us to the playoffs. But I have always maintained (look at my post history) that he is mediocre at best with severe limitations with the deep ball. Good defenses know this and have adjusted after last year. I'd love to see #14 lead the Bills to the playoffs and beyond, but I just don't see it happening. And I am an eternal optimist. So, in essence, my consistent inclusion of Fitz in my posts are a reaction to those, like you, who cannot see the big picture.

Though I'd love to replace Fitz and we would have an amazing, ball control offense that would force Chan or whoever (Marty Ball!) to run the damn ball, I'd say it would be tough to do with our defense playing like it did. Not sure we could score 30. On the other hand, we wouldn't be giving a short field after an INT time after time. -
I don't disagree with your post, however the fact still remains that Fitz turned the ball over at a horrible time with a horrible pass. He did not do the job when called upon. (Nor did our horrendous defense)

Andy Reid is an upgrade. As much as I dislike Fitz, not sure Vick is the answer. We not need another turnover machine. -
I'm sick of people labeling others as haters. Get your head out of your a$$. We want this team to succeed and Fitz ain't getting it done. Period. As for the Fitz bandwagon, that fell off a cliff a long time ago. It just keeps tumbling, crashing and burning. (Cue, "the defense sucks" rhetoric. No ****, Sherlock)
