Be prepared for sticker shock for free agents
Bronc24 replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think if you look at the numbers, OG is not a "specialized" position and does not command a ridiculous sum. Odd when comparing to a punter, but true. -
Fixed. End of discussion.

I'd ask this: can it be worse? Even if we won 2 games, that's better than the usual 6 and picking 8th. Here's the deal: We all know that cutting Fitz does not clear a lot of cap space for this season and that about $10 million will remain on the books if he is cut. However, unless the FO truly feels Fitz is "the guy" that can take us to the playoffs, he needs to be cut. Another 6 win season with him "steering" the ship would be disastrous because his cap hit will then be on the 2014 books. I have stated this from the time Fitz became the starter: he will not take this team to the playoffs. Ever. In fact, he has not taken us past 6 wins yet. You can throw in your remarks about our bad defense and lack of WR's and all that other crap, but let's be honest about this. He is NOT the guy to get the job done. Therefore, it is time to move on and hand the keys to someone else. If the Bills retain Fitz this season, it is one of the biggest mistakes this franchise will ever make. Yep, improve a 30 year old 7th round pick who is leading the league in turnovers the last three years. Not a chance. See above as to why Fitz should not even be on the team, let alone starting.

Nassib hasn't been a 2nd round pick, yet, and Fitz will always be what he is: a QB who will win you 5 - 7 games a season.

Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse

I'd say Jones lacks intangibles. He's not the kinda guy who will put a team on his back in tough times. I want a passionate leader at the QB position. Someone who would want to destroy his grandmother in checkers. Landry Jones would let her win. -

Geno Smith vs Matt Barkley last 2yrs

I'm not here to say this QB or that QB. I like Geno, could live with Barkley or Nassib, not huge on Glennon, kinda like Dysert late. However, the point of my post is this: we need to address this issue and I increasingly think we should do it at 8. My reasoning is that we always seem to be picking in this 8-11 area. Therefore, every year we do not have an opportunity to grab the best talent at QB. This year we may. I understand the talent is not like other years and there are question marks. I get that. But ignoring the position as KOK has mentioned a number of times cannot continue. It is the most important position in football. Period. My fear is that by waiting until the second round, we will lose out again. I also do not want to trade up into the first in a Losman like panic move. That type of thinking has set us back, as we all know. I guess, bottom line, I don't want to look back on this draft and say, "we got screwed again". If we take a QB at 8, it will give me some confidence that we are truly headed in a different direction. -
Ain't that the truth.

Well...put me down as one of those guys. I know little of Scott, but Wilson was a massive mistake by this franchise. Check the history. I'd want to make sure a guy was able to learn X and Os. I'd want a guy who dealt with them a whole career. And to say Flacco, Manning and Brady are going the way of the dinosaur is a tad premature, is it not? Last time I checked, they are all playoff QBs with Flacco being the MVP in the Superbowl. I'd also submit that the read option is going to be a focus of every defensive coordinator in this league during the off season. It will be interesting to see how effective it remains.

Banks' mock has us taking Geno Smith. Looking at his mocked picks previous to us, I can see it occurring. Thoughts? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nfl/news/20130227/nfl-mock-draft-2/?sct=hp_t11_a5&eref=sihp

Why does everyone think Matt Ryan is a top 6 QB?

Before entering into this debate (and you know I will), I'd be interested to see your top 10. -
They should also be fighting in their trailer, not laughing and in love.

You are correct. In the literal sense of "arm strength", my description was inaccurate. Allow me to be more specific. Ryan Fitzpatrick does not have the physical skill set to consistently complete a football 20 yards or further past the line of scrimmage during an NFL game. His lack of said physical attributes cause him to be highly inaccurate when throwing passes this distance. In fact, Ryan's inconsistency in this regard has allowed teams to game plan accordingly, meaning they jump shorter routes Fitzpatrick is more apt to throw, given the afore mentioned lack of physical traits. This is not a quality I wish for the quarterback of my favourite team. Therefore, it would please me if Ryan were released and set free to pursue employment with another franchise in the National Football League (or Arena Football League). In terms of arm "strength", Mr. Fitzpatrick certainly can throw a ball 20 yards and further, a notion your superbly researched video supports. In fact, he can even be accurate on occasion, which is also evident in your video. As an avid Bills fan since 1979, I am ecstatic that a man we have paid $21 million dollars in a new contract has the arm "strength" to hurl a piece of leather that far every so often. My apologies for "warping" the definition of arm "strength". In future posts, I will defer to your not-so-subtle lesson in the English language and be sure to be much more careful with my words. Also, thank you for your checking my condescending attitude. It was highly inappropriate to act like someone who would post a video from 2009 to prove that Ryan Fitzpatrick indeed has the arm "strength", in its literal form, to throw a football 20 yards. I appreciate it.
-
I guess, in "football speak", saying one cannot throw the ball 20 yards implies they are wildly inaccurate in that range or farther and they do not have the arm strength to get the ball to a receiver on a consistent basis as one would expect a QB to be able to do in the National Football League. Since this is a message board for an NFL team and the discussion revolves around, you know, football, I figured the readers of that comment would understand my implication. It appears I am incorrect.

Complete Write-off Season?

Yep. Yep. Yep. And yep. I will take the over for $100. -
Manuel and Wilson are natural leaders...
Bronc24 replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Geno Smith has carried himself well thus far. No idea if he's a fit, but starting to like the intangibles. -
I hate, and yes it is truly a hate, Fitzpatrick the QB because he cannot get us to the playoffs. I wish I were wrong. I wish he'd prove me wrong. I wish he'd win us a Superbowl. I'd gladly eat that crow and admit I was wrong. But I'm not. As for the personal issues, no worries bro. Happily married to a woman 19 years younger than me, just bought a new house and expecting our first child. Life cannot be better. Appreciate your concern.

McCoy or weeden - Cleveland is going to cut one
Bronc24 replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Weekend at Bernie's! Plus, his daughter does porn. But really, have we sunk to the level of contemplating which crappy Browns' QB we want? Yeesh. -
This, alone, speaks volumes. Why didn't you include the more recent picks vs the Giants in 2011? Wide open Stevie, Fitz under threw him twice. Cost us the game, as he admitted after. I remember my ex wife being great in bed in 2010 as well, but that doesn't excuse her for being a total b** ch. saying he was "not the biggest reason", as you state, means he is still a reason, correct? If you've ever coached (I have for twenty five years, successfully), you would know that you don't defend what the other team is incapable of doing. Our QB cannot throw deep, so the Jets saw no need to defend it. Same with every other team. I plan on letting Marrone sort things out. By cutting that lame duck of a QB. OK, so in one post, you blame coaching (see above), but now Gailey knew what he was doing by picking Fitz over TJax? It seems Gailey sucks only when it's convenient to your argument. Any video evidence from 2012 to back up your claim? By NFL standards, he does NOT have arm strength. Every QB coming out in the draft can throw the ball 58 yards. Do they all have strong arms? By your standard, yes....by NFL standards, no. Keep setting your bar really low. Then when Fitz leads us to 5 wins over the bottom feeders of the league, you can say, "See! We won and Fitz threw for 3 TDs!" If we keep Fitz, I and others here will see it for what it is. A team mired in mediocrity for the foreseeable future.

Yep. Reminiscing about the glory years, 4th quarter INTs, costly fumbles, absolutely no passing game beyond 10 yards and 6 wins a season. Those Fitz days sure were the good ol' days.
