  1. Wondering also if we sign Calais Campbell at DE, rather than missing out on the guy he's compared to (Coples).
  2. Webster, you make an excellent point. To quantify what you are saying about DE34's, there are six players in the Top 100 that are DE's, and are currently on our Big Board at 12, 25, 37, 38, 74, and 84. That usually drives their value up if you are one of the 8 teams that wants a DE34 in this draft. BUT... If you want a 4-3DE, there are eleven in the Top 100, with 5 teams that really want a DE43 in this draft, so they can be likely had in RD2 and RD3.
  3. Admittedly, Curry is a great pass-rusher (He is also the NCAA's active leader in career TFL's with 48, is second to Mercilus in career sacks with 26.5), but Curry becomes more of a liability laterally and in coverage. His knee injury won't help; he was out a lot. That's why he'll drop--But not as far as the Bills' 3rd Rounder in truth, though; you're right. A 3-4 team needing a pass-rusher will snag him in RD2.
  4. Simulating this using DraftTek Simulator: 1 10 Buffalo Mike Adams OT Ohio State 2 42 Buffalo Juron Criner WRP Arizona 3 74 Buffalo Vinny Curry OLB34 Marshall 4 105 Buffalo Michael Egnew TE Missouri 4 124 Buffalo Brandon Lindsey OLB34 Pittsburgh 5 137 Buffalo Ryan Van Bergen DE34 Michigan 6 169 Buffalo Ryan Lindley QB San Diego State 6 191est. Buffalo Brian Quick WRP Appalachian State 7 200 Buffalo Asa Jackson CB Cal Poly We have Ta'Amu going #58 to Houston in RD2. I think we take another DT though. I like Hebron Fangupo from BYU in RD4 and Nicolas Jean-Baptiste from Baylor in RD5, although he'll go to RD4 soon. The Late Round Wonders are Ishmaa'ily Kitchen and Chigbo Anunobyin RD7 or our possible RD6 extra pick.
  5. I agree with most of your moves. Let's add Thigpen to the cuts. Now you need a WR (likely your P1), backup CB (P3), a backup QB (P3), OLB (P2 M3--multiple, as early as RD3 for the 2nd LB), TE (P2), OT (P3) and probably a groomable high potential DE that's bigger than Mathis (P3). Simulating that: 1 10 Whitney Mercilus OLB34 Illinois 2 42 Juron Criner WRP Arizona 3 74 Kellen Moore QB Boise State 4 105 Kheeston Randall DE34 4 124 Brandon Lindsey OLB34 Pittsburgh 5 138 Donnie Fletcher CB Boston College 5 (est.)160 DeVier Posey WRF Ohio State 6 169 Jeff Allen OT Illinois 7 200 Ishmaa'ily Kitchen DT34 Kent State We could do lots worse with all these moves!
  6. JC, this is about what I did, so we'll see shortly what happens. The fun of this draft is figuring out what MIA will do 2 slots before we draft, because they have a major need at pass rusher too. As far as Kellen Moore goes, I think he played his way into RD3 last night. I see him being taken by pick #74 (our RD3). The way the talent is, though, if we don't take him he could drop as far as RD4#113 (Dallas), as most teams will have their QB's by then.
  7. Vinny Curry often shows up in the DraftTek simulation in the 3rd round. I think he'll go 2nd round after his fine performance. I like his pass rush, but he isn't the sideline to sideline guy you'd want in RD2. Ronnell Lewis would be a great OLB guy with speed and hitting ability. http://drafttek.com/ On the right hand side are links to all of the Senior Bowl evaluations, including our own Mike Schottey, who was there for the entire week. Have at it! Astro Then add Bushrod in FA, and you have the Cockblocker line!
  8. I will submit our positional needs to DraftTek today, so I looked at the BigBoard, ran a simulation, and got an idea who's currently available in each round. If you don't see a name (like Upshaw), they were picked just before our pick. This will help me determine which positions you'd rather take sooner, and maybe put in a grab for a popular player. -Astro RD1 Whitney Mercilus OLB34 Quinton Coples DE43 Riley Reiff OT Iowa Jonathan Martin OT Stanford Alfonzo Dennard CB Nebraska Luke Kuechly ILB Boston College Melvin Ingram OLB34 South Carolina Janoris Jenkins CB North Alabama Zach Brown ILB North Carolina Nick Perry OLB34 USC RD2 Ronnell Lewis OLB43 Oklahoma Ryan Tannehill QB Texas A&M Bobby Wagner OLB43 Utah State Bobby Massie OT Mississippi Markelle Martin FS Oklahoma State LaMichael James RBC Oregon Andre Branch OLB34 Clemson Juron Criner WRF Arizona Dwight Jones WRF North Carolina Stephon Gilmore CB South Carolina Andrew Datko OT Florida State Zebrie Sanders OT Florida State Kendall Wright WRS Baylor Alameda Ta'amu DT34 Washington Brandon ThompsonDT43 Clemson RD3 Kendall Reyes DE34 Connecticut Kellen Moore QB Boise State Travis Lewis ILB Oklahoma Lavonte David OLB43 Nebraska Antonio Allen SS South Carolina Orson Charles TE Georgia Lucas Nix OT Pittsburgh Vinny Curry OLB34 Marshall Nick Toon WRF Wisconsin Mike Brewster OC Ohio State Chandler Jones DE43 Syracuse Billy Winn DE43 Boise State Aaron Henry FS Wisconsin A.J. 9. The most versatile players are the multi-position players where there is the LEAST dropoff at their second position. This does it for me: http://www.drafttek.com/BigBoardPg1.asp Look down around 7-16 in Round 1, and these players have tons of dropoff at their second position, or have no second position (less versatile): Devon Still (-59 point dropoff) Fletcher Cox (-182) Courtney Upshaw (OLB only) These players can play 2 or more positions with little dropoff: Luke Kuechly (weak ILB, strongside ILB)----but already have Sheppard Quinton Coples (3-4 DE, 4-3 DE) Zach Brown (OLB43, Weakside ILB) Reilly Reiff (LOT, ROT) Mike Adams (ROT, LOT) I am not counting Michael Floyd, as there is no difference between a feature receiver and possession receiver. Given Nix's penchant for versatility, players already drafted, his comments about O-Line being set, the possibility of a 4-3, and need for defensive pass rush, I'm moving toward Coples, maybe Brown, in RD1. Read my comments in the next DraftTek mock, likely out by the end of the week.
  10. I for one would like this pick..He is a highly rated DT, again allowing Dareus and Williams to be DE in a 4-3... Comments?
  11. Your wish is my command. 1 10 Whitney Mercilus OLB Illinois 2 42 Levy Adcock OT Oklahoma State 3 74 Billy Winn DE Boise State 4 105 Hebron Fangupo DT BYU 4 125 Malik Jackson OLB Tennessee 5 (Names here include Cliff Harris CB Oregon, Deangelo Peterson TE LSU, Brock Osweiler QB ASU, and Nicolas Jean-Baptiste DT Baylor) See my sig line for another approach. With Wood and Levitre, you have to get Bushrod in FA and Adcock in RD2.
  12. Most of you won't like what the computer picked for the Bills, based on our needs and who was the BPA, in the DraftTek mock #9. http://www.drafttek.com/CMDRound1.asp Based on the majority of the comments here, I am going to drop OT one level for mock #10. But you may still want to read what I said about Reiff if you have an open mind 95 days away from the draft.
  13. He's my pick in RD#2 here: http://www.drafttek.com/CMDRound2_33-48.asp "In the last CMD, Lewis was picked in RD1 by the Green Bay Packers, so he's a keeper at #42. I always look at a player's year-to-year progress , and this declared junior shows just that, improving on each previous year's numbers in sacks, tackles, tackles for loss, and QB hurries. Lewis is an extremely violent hitter, but a textbook tackler. , showing you he would bring it on special teams as well. Lewis's first step and acceleration make him difficult to block, and his power and rip moves help Lewis get past linemen (think Moats' speed and quickness with Cornelius Bennett's size and power). Watch for the Bills to take another pass rusher later, as well. "
  14. Watch for Mike Sherman to be the Fins' OC, and for Ryan Tannehill (Sherman's protege) to be drafted first by Miami, not Courtney Upshaw.
  15. Mike Schottey is down there this week from DraftTek. Check out his comments here and friend him on Twitter. http://www.drafttek.com/Shrine-Game-Report.asp
  16. I've never read a sentence with 7 commas in it. You're a lawyer, aren't you?
  17. Reiff is going to be an All-Pro as will Kalil and Adams. Too bad we won't see Upshaw at our pick, but we'll see him twice a year. You can read what I said about Reiff here. Astro
  18. With this draft, we'd have 4 Williamses: Kyle, Aaron, Jesse, and Michael. Then get Greggo back...
  19. He'd be a great choice at #10. We'll see him a lot either way, because he'll go to Miami at #8 if he doesn't fall to us.
  20. 1-Indy-Andrew Luck-No-brainer, and no, they don't keep Manning. 2-StL--Matt Kalil or Blackmon 3-Min-Justin Blackmon or Kalil or Coples or Riley Reiff 4-Cleve-Trent Richardson or Coples or Devon Still 5-TBay-Morris Clayborne or Luke Kuechly 6-Wash-Alfonzo Dennard or Dre Kirkpatrick (signs Peyton Manning; knows there is major falloff at CB after RD1) 7-Jax- Michael Floyd or Dre Kirkpatrick or Coples 8-Mia-Upshaw or Reilly Reiff 8-Car-Devon Still or Michael Floyd 9-Buf-RG3 I'm not advocating this per se; I am arguing that by taking every team's P1 and P2 needs here, RG3 could slip to the Bills. The draft would then have to go something like this: Buffalo RD2-Ronnell Lewis OLB34, Oklahoma http://bit.ly/xfXgg7 RD3-Dontari Poe DT Memphis (6'5" 350; plays DT34 and DT43; Dareus moves back to DE) RD4-Jeff Fuller WRF Texas A&M RD4-Michael Egnew TE Missouri RD5-Omar Bolden CB Arizona State RD6-Justin Pugh OT Syracuse RD7-Zach Line RB SMU
  21. So you won't throw a brick at your TV when this year's pick is Trent Richardson?
  22. On the next DraftTek draft, Hightower goes #24 to Pittsburgh to be heir apparent to Farrior's spot. I love Chapman, BTW, but Vlachos is going to drop like a stone. He'll still be around late.
  23. If you told me we are going to be a 4-3 this year, Still would go right up to the top of my list. Kick Dareus out to DE, put Williams and Still in the middle... Hey, BB, have you heard whether Kwame Geathers has declared for the draft? He'd be a RD2 right about at our pick...
  24. There's just such a falloff after Clayborne, Kirkpatrick and Dennard (with Stephon Gilmore the wild card who could shoot up past Jenkins and Minnifield). Eleven teams --that's right, 11-- have CB as their P1 or P2 need in this draft, so I have to agree. Someone in RD1 is stuck with the doobie.
  25. Ingram, Branch, and Chandler Jones are also going to move up. When everybody moves up, they all stay where they are. Ask Einstein.
