  1. I'd love a trade-down, because it's a little early to take TE or OG at 9. That said, I turned in the name of SAMMY WATKINS, the draft's #1 receiver, into DraftTek, and Team Analysts will have until late Tuesday to comment on each pick. It should be here by Wed. morning.
  2. I'd take Ebron, Benjamin, Skov... Wow! Is it May yet?!?
  3. Great question. The Bills are one of the worst teams in screen blocking. Dean Kindig ‏@TCBILLS_Astro 13m Watkins' strength=screens, #Bills OTs both rank 38th in screen blocks per PFF, OGs 38th-74th, and Wood 32nd OC. #BillsMafia #DraftTek For OT's that will be Guards or RT's in the NFL, it's Matthews or Which OGs in the draft have the best screen blocking? Gabe Jackson isn't that fast when he pulls. La'El Collins isn't coming out, so your best bet is Cyril Richardson (who might also compete well at RT) then David Yankey, who we rank very high and others see him as #4 or #5 OG. Best all-round guy might be Zack Martin, who'd be there at RD2 and not at RD3. I think Hughes had the same problem at times. Best edge-sealing guy at DE might be Trent Murphy and at OLB may be Mosley.
  4. That is correct. If you want the downfield guy, Evans is it. Evans has caught the highest percentage of > 20 yard passes when you compare the top 15 WRs in the 2014 draft. 57% of Watkins' receptions came as screens, but that's not necessarily a bad thing for a team that has 2 burners going deep and 2 very good RBs keeping the defense honest. Our screen game has been abysmal; Pears and Glenn are ranked 38th by PFF in screen blocking, Legursky-Urbik rank 38th-74th, Wood is 32nd among OC's.
  5. I ran across this article which compares Mike Evans and Sammy Watkins' metrics that's worth a read: Goes to Green Bay at #21. I'd be happy to put him on this poll....Done. you can revote if you have already done so.
  6. 6'3", 220. Quick release, Questionable decisions, Questionable mechanics Struggles to fit it in tight windows I've heard everything from First Round to Interesting mid-late developmental guy Garappolo's passing TDs: 2010: 14 2011: 20 2012: 31 2013: 53 His YPA is higher than Manuel's, and Manuel had the highest YPA in last year's draft.
  7. Edited 10:06 EST: Mike Evans has been added. You can delete your vote and revote if you wish. DraftTek is running this week's mock and we can Grab players this week. I won't say who was taken in picks 1-8, but here is who's there at 9: Sammy Watkins WRF Clemson Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State Greg Robinson RT Auburn C.J. Mosley OLB Alabama Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix FS Alabama Eric Ebron TE North Carolina Based on the Bills' Positional Needs you voted on last week, the computer assigned us Sammy Watkins, the draft's #1 WR. I'm showing you the next 4 Value picks plus Dennard, who's there because Detroit has CB as its number one positional need. Whom would the Bills take in this scenario? If they don't re-simulate it again, this will be the result for the Bills on this week's mock and will appear here..
  8. Fully agree, except I don't think they take a OLB; I think they take a ILB.
  9. Bills Draft coming up tomorrow on DraftTek: 1 9 Buffalo Khalil Mack OLB34 Buffalo 2 41 Buffalo Odell Beckham Jr. WRF LSU 3 73 Buffalo Gabe Jackson OG Mississippi St 4 105 Buffalo Ka'Deem Carey RBF Arizona 5 137 Buffalo Jimmy Garoppolo QB Eastern Illinois 6 169 Buffalo Tim Jackson DE34 North Carolina 7 201 Buffalo Ricardo Allen CB Purdue
  10. I'm adding Evans back in but put him below Watkins for sure. We'll take a tall WR and a TE before the draft is done.
  11. Save this list; it could totally go in that order in May! Agreed. I think Barr is amazing but you're right. We do have a difference-maker in Hughes. Hughes is sometimes into the neutral zone before the Center snaps the ball, and that's an attribute of Barr as well. Barr is already great, but still green. This was his first full season on the defensive side of the ball after making the transition from the running back position! His leverage and hand placement is All-Pro. That said, teams ran on us up the gut, exceeding 5.5 yards a carry. Teams were unable to run on us wide (<3 ypc). That doesn't scream DE to me. Agreed. I won't throw a brick at the TV if Mack is selected before we pick. Picking the ILB who falls to us in RD1-3, and sliding Alonso out would be fine with me. Pick weapons and protection for EJ in RD1-2 if the ILB you want isn't value there.
  12. Kouandjio. Anybody else want Jernigan at 9? He's not in the DraftTek Top 20, I'll say that. I have put Robinson back in. Because of his versatility, I'd have him over some of the other OL guys.
  13. Would you like to see RT Greg Robinson, RT, added back in? Some drafts have him in top 6.
  14. I can remove players we wouldn't take at Pick 9, and take players off that I think would never fall to Pick 9 (Clowney for example). Doing That Now.
  15. In preparing our Mock Draft for this coming week, I've been asked which players to "Grab" if they are still there at Pick 9. The ORDER of how you list them determines the order in which the computer checks them. If they're there, the computer assigns the player to the Bills. This is my current grab list, in updated order. I'll change this until Sunday Night at 9 pm EST then submit it "as is" to DraftTek: Grabs (In Priority Order: 3 Buffalo Grab Sammy Watkins Clemson WRF 6'1" 205 1 8 Buffalo Grab Greg Robinson Auburn ROT 6'5" 320 1 7 Buffalo Grab Mike Evans Texas A&M WRF 6'5" 225 1 5 Buffalo Grab C.J. 16. This will be a deeper WR class than TE class, but I do think if you want to surround EJ with weapons, one way to do it is take the BEST (not tallest) WR or TE on the board in RD1--whichever is better value. Then by RD3, take the biggest, tallest, baddest redzone target. In between, take a versatile OL who has played OG (Yankey, Richardson, Su'a Filo---I think La'El Collins goes back to school) then take a WLB like Borland or DePriest in the 4th.
  17. I like Bortles' measurables, he plays in an offense that combines pro-style drop-back passing with spread and read-option. He's mobile, displays accuracy, and is known for sound decision-making. When he gets his rhythm, plants and throws, it's usually a very positive result but it doesn't always happen that way in the NFL game. In his offense, he isn't asked to make too many "NFL" throws, and it's typically a "get the ball out to the receivers and let them make plays" strategy, This year he'd be on my board above McCarron, Mettenberger, and Manziel, and below Carr and Bridgewater. Next year? Maybe higher.
  18. Actually, you'd have to make choices in RD 3, 4, and 5. My choice would be to take Steen at OG (our greatest liability on the line), Garoppolo (I like his moxie as much as anyone), then Karlos Williams. After tonight, I fear that he won't last as long. Tremendous explosion.
  19. In fact, I maintain that the run on QBs, and even the pre-draft buzz about the QBs, will sieve the talent at several positions of need right to the Bills. Or a trading partner. Baltimore wants a WR, and it's their top offensive need (I've talked with the Baltimore Analyst at DraftTek). They are at #16, and a drop from 9 to 16 is worth their second. Ravens get Sammy Watkins WRF Clemson Bills end up with Jace Amaro TE Texas Tech Shayne Skov ILB Stanford, sliding Kiko Alonso to WLB La'el Collins OG LSU
  20. Simulated this for you. It works except for the moving back up part. 1 9 Buffalo Sammy Watkins WRF Clemson 2 41 Buffalo Eric Ebron TE North Carolina 3 73 Buffalo Anthony Steen OG A.J. McCarron QB or Seantrel Henderson ROT Miami 4 105 Buffalo Lache Seastrunk RBF Baylor or Jimmy Garoppolo QB Eastern Illinois 5 137 Buffalo Zach Mettenberger QB LSU or Karlos Williams RBF Florida State
  21. Good point. Look at this upcoming DraftTek scenario. What if this is the choice in RD1? 1 1 Houston Teddy Bridgewater QB Louisville P3Grab -1 Reach 1 2 St Louis Jake Matthews LOT Texas A&M P3Grab -1 Reach 1 3 Jacksonville Johnny Manziel QB Texas A&M P1Grab -18 Reach 1 4 Cleveland Derek Carr QB Fresno State P2Grab -9 Reach 1 5 Oakland Jadeveon Clowney DE43 South Carolina P4Grab 4 Value 1 6 Atlanta Anthony Barr OLB43 UCLA P3Grab -1 Reach 1 7 Tampa Bay C.J. Mosley OLB43 Alabama P3Grab -2 Reach 1 8 Minnesota Blake Bortles QB UCF P1Grab -32 Reach 1 9 Buffalo ??? Available are: Mike Evans WRF Texas A&M, Sammy Watkins WRF Clemson, or Marqise Lee WRF USC Khalil Mack OLB43 Buffalo Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix FS Alabama Greg Robinson ROT Auburn Louis Nix DT43 Notre Dame as well as the top 3 TE's, the top 4 CB's, David Yankey OG Stanford, and the #2 and #3 LT's. The next-rated QB on the board is #75 McCarron, who'd be there in RD3.
  22. This is an excellent post! I will add one more wildcard, which everything is at the moment. Marrone, a guy who knows OL, hinted in his postseason press conference that changes would be made. Runs up the gut by CJ-FJ averaged nearly 5 ypc, while runs off tackle were close to 3 ypc. Look for a versatile tackle (RT-LT) or guard (LG-RG) early in the draft, maybe not at 9, but surely by the end of Day 2.
  23. The difference in record would be the difference between a 7th and a 12th RD pick. Using today's new DraftTek mock, it's the choice between getting C.J. Mosley and a choice of one of the following, all available at our pick: Mike Evans WR Alabama Khalil Mack OLB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu CB Marqise Lee WR USC Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix FS Cyrus Kouandjio OT Jace Amaro TE (Bridgewater and Hundley will be gone at EITHER pick; we think Carr will be the next QB taken and he'd be there, too) So, no; you play to win the game AND see who needs replacing.
