  1. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/red_zone/2014-NFL-compensatory-pick-projections.html This guy was practically dead on last year. No Bills comps?
  2. Here is an interesting page we put up at DraftTek. It shows which drafted players are still on each team over a 4-year span. Type in the full name of the city or team. Here's the summary at the bottom for Seattle: Total Players drafted by SEATTLE from 2010 to 2013 is : 39 Players Still on roster : 29 DPR Rate : 74.36%
  3. I have tried it several times with Watkins as our first rounder, then Austin Seferian-Jenkins in the 2nd. I don't get a chance at a OG in RD 3 or 4. I sure hope we get a Guard by FA.
  4. Only twice. Art Schlichter Colts 1982 pick in RD1, then John Elway 1983. Also Terry Baker first pick in 1963 by LA Rams, then Bill Munson in 1964. http://www.nfl.com/d...t?type=position
  5. The 3 guys I'd want next to Alonso are Mosley (RD1), Skov (RD2--won't last like this sim shows), or Borland (RD3). I haven't watched enough of Max Bullough, Yawin Smallwood, or Andrew Jackson to know. Telvin Smith is too small although he always is in the play--likely not an NFL runstopper.
  6. TWO MORE TRIES. Of course you have to take Greg Robinson at 9. Love the top 4 OTs, Mosley, and Ebron at 9. With Robinson you assure a healthy QB, with AS-J you give him a weapon that can line up as TE or WR, and with Skov you get a guy that flies around like Alonso. R1 OT GREG ROBINSON AUBURN R2 TE AUSTIN SEFERIAN-JENKINS WASHINGTON R3 ILB SHAYNE SKOV STANFORD R4 RB CARLOS HYDE OHIO STATE R5 QB A.J. MCCARRON ALABAMA R6 DE JOSH MAURO STANFORD R7 DT JAY BROMLEY SYRACUSE In the second draft, I never ventured down more than about 7 slots. Manziel fell to 9, and I wanted to see what would happen. I also took the OG who's never seen snow in RD2. Fortunately, I was still able to get one of my top 3 ILB's, a tall target for Johnny in Moncrief, and one of the CBs I think will float up the boards. TE became less of a priority with Man-Zeal. 8. Say the draft goes this way, and it could. 1 Houston Teddy Bridgewater QB 2 St Louis Sammy Watkins WRF 3 Jacksonville Johnny Manziel QB 4 Cleveland Blake Bortles QB 5 Oakland Jadeveon Clowney DE43 6 Atlanta Anthony Barr OLB43 7 Tampa Bay Derek Carr QB 8 Minnesota Khalil Mack OLB43 You're not going to take the 5th QB on your board, nor are you going to take the 3rd OLB43 on your board (I regard Mosley as a ILB). The BPAs in my opinion in this scenario are OL and Mosley. Between Matthews, Robinson, and Lewan, 2-3 will make Pro Bowl runs. Mosley-Alonso rivals SF and Seahawks. Also notice the top CB hasn't been taken (although that's a wild card to me for the Bills), and FS (sign Byrd).
  9. Just tweeted this: Rob Moore used H-back Ashton Broyld in interesting ways. Would think he'd do the same with Summers, Gragg, Chandler, Hoskins, Ebron. As described here http://forgedinbuffalo.com/media/sports/buffalo-bills-playbook-part-3-doug-marrones-modern-passing-attack/ the Bills are interested in employing the attack described well in that article, and you can see how any of those guys I listed would help.
  10. 7 Rounder starts here. http://www.drafttek.com/2014-NFL-Mock-Draft-Round1.asp I like the pick but don't like the reasoning Kiper gives. Matthews gives the Bills a LT or RT at worst, with potential Pro Bowlers in Glenn, Matthews and Wood. Most mocks have Matthews gone by Nine. He doesn't have Robinson's ceiling, but he is NFL ready now. Robinson would take a year.
  11. Wilder selection is puzzling. I loved who the Bills picked in the DraftTek DRAFTSIM more, actually.
  12. My thinking is this. We have Mack on our Big Board at 5. Mack will make a great OLB34 and an equally-good OLB43. I have seen articles (Rotowire etc.) saying we need a OLB43 and Mack would be it. I disagree; We need a SILB or WILB. Mack won't be there anyway. Mosley in RD1, Skov in RD2, or either Chris Borland/Andrew Jackson in RD3 meets our needs in the ILB dept if Whaley opts to draft the guy next to Kiko. If they choose to go after a veteran, we think the Bills would have ~$24.97 Million in FA if they cut Pears and Kolb.
  13. Click here to . This is why he's neck and neck with Mack on our OLB43 board. That's called "running the circle", and Nobody Wagons the Circle like Anthony Barr--even Mack.
  14. I'd be all over that like a cheap suit, but both could take O-Line in the first: 1 9 Baltimore Cyrus Kouandjio OT Alabama 1 16 Buffalo Greg Robinson OT Auburn 2 41 Buffalo Odell Beckham Jr. WRF LSU P2 +11 Value 2 47 Buffalo Shayne Skov ILB Stanford P2 +2 Value 3 73 Buffalo Gabe Jackson OG Mississippi St P2Grab -8 Reach 5 137 Buffalo Jonathan Brown OLB43 Illinois This report was produced using Draft Tek's Draft Simulator: WWW.Drafttek.com. 15. I just went and simulated your scenario, and, while the first 3 picks are reaches right now, it'll be a lot less after the Combine and workouts. I still think Watkins is the better player at present, and will continue to be the better player for ~3 years, but Benjamin's ceiling is very high--limited by himself and his coaching-up. This report was produced using Draft Tek's Draft Simulator: WWW.Drafttek.com. Posting this report without giving the foregoing information is a copyright violation. 1 9 Buffalo Kelvin Benjamin WRF Florida State P2Grab -34 Reach 2 41 Buffalo Troy Niklas TE Notre Dame P2Grab -9 Reach 3 73 Buffalo Gabe Jackson OG Mississippi St P2Grab -8 Reach 4 105 Buffalo A.J. McCarron QB Alabama P3O +15 Value or Morgan Moses OT Virginia +12 Value 5 137 Buffalo Charles Sims RBF WVU +2 Value 6 169 Buffalo Max Bullough ILB Michigan State P2 +3 Value 7 201 Buffalo Bene Benwikere CB San Jose State P3 -3 Reach Great points. Everyone (especially our 14-years patient fanbase) wants results, and I think Mosley and Greg Robinson would get us there sooner than a stud WR. Who knows? Maybe the WRs we have will look better if our QB has time--time to gel with existing WRs Woods-Goodwin-Johnson-maybe Barden, time to throw.
  16. We're working on a "What-If" trade between DAL and the Niners right now, and we'll post the results. "The Dallas Cowboys trade #17 (950 pts) to San Francisco for picks #30 and #55 (total 970 points). Dallas will also throw in a 2015 5th rounder to makes it even – the Niners will want to start accumulating 2015 picks."
  17. Great point. There will be "good" OL guys for RT and LG, but the choices are these, at least in the draft (if not in FA+draft): Do you want 2-3 Pro-Bowl-capable guys playing next to each other on the offensive line (Glenn-Robinson-Wood) providing time for the QB to make 2nd and 3rd reads to locate Woods-Johnson-Goodwin-Chandler-Moeaki? OR Do you want another Pro-Bowl-capable LB next to Alonso to stop the run, force change-of-field, providing more offensive opportunities? OR Do you want a Pro-Bowl-capable true #1 WR with great YAC numbers who's sensational in the screen game to force OC's to choose their poison and open up running underneath? Lucky us, because we can do at least one of the above.
  18. To assist with your mock draft trades, the 2014 version of the Trade Value Chart is now available. Type "CLE" into the box to see how many picks CLEveland has! http://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp?RequestTeam=BUF Astro
  19. This report was produced using Draft Tek's Draft Simulator: WWW.Drafttek.com. Posting this report without giving the foregoing information is a copyright violation. I left off players that were identified by the computer as a "Reach" at that pick (defined differently in each round), and I left off players that play in a 3-4 who can't play a 4-3. Available RD1: C.J. Mosley ILB Jake Matthews OT Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix FS Marqise Lee WRF Greg Robinson OT Eric Ebron TE My inclination here is Mosley playing next to Alonso, with Robinson as a superb second choice. Eric Ebron is on our Big Board at 15, so he's fair game, but Chandler was our top receiver this year, Moeaki is untried, and there are holes in Ebron's game too--needs to work on his hands and route-running, and he sometimes misses or doesn't sustain his block. WAY higher ceiling than Chandler, though--just less immediate impact than the other two. Are we patient enough to take him? Re-sign Byrd unless you took HaHa in RD1 and alienated your fanbase. Choice: CJ Mosley ILB. Available RD2: A Seferian-Jenkins TE Ryan Shazier WILB Jeremiah Attaochu OLB43 Kelvin Benjamin WRF Shayne Skov ILB Aaron Donald DT43 Dee Ford OLB43 I think Kelvin Benjamin and AS-J are the best choices here if you went Defense in RD1. Benjamin's just growing into his capabilities--huge ceiling. AS-J will contribute right away. You need a tall weapon for EJ, and (while we have signed four untried 6'4"+ WRs) there aren't loads of them in this draft. Aaron Donald would be a luxury pick, while Skov, Attaochu, and Dee Ford are real possibilities. Shazier is long and lean (230 lbs)...I think he projects to WILB more than OLB43. You have a better version of Shazier in Kiko Alonso, who makes fewer wasted movements. Choice: Austin Seferian-Jenkins TE. Available RD3: Jarvis Landry WRF Paul Richardson WRF Chris Borland ILB Brandon Coleman WRF Will Sutton DT43 If we don't have a sidekick to Alonso yet, Borland's a great pairing. He is a thumper against the run, tough but quick to the play, and leads my choices here. Brandon Coleman is an intriguing pick here, with 6-6 height, and he's among the best adjusting to the poorly-thrown ball (which we've seen from EJ thus far). I prefer Landry's explosion and separation, and dependbility to Richardson's, who falls because he's 6-1, 170 but 4th in the FBS in yards per game with 120. He missed all of 2012 with a MCL. We may have him too high at early RD3. Choice: Brandon Coleman WR. Available RD4: Lache Seastrunk RBF A.J. McCarron, Zach Mettenberger, Tajh Boyd QB Aaron Lynch DE43 Seantrel Henderson OT Anthony Johnson DT43 The lure of Seastrunk may be too much for some, but I'm passing on him for two reasons. There are good options later, and Seastrunk is untried as a receiver out of the backfield. Just say no to QB. Henderson showed his faults vs the quick DEs at the Senior Bowl. Give me Aaron Lynch, the perfect DE for a Wide Nine and 4-3---foot speed, length, and quickness. He'll need to add bulk but wings will do that. Schwartz loves DTs, but he'll improve the ones he already has. Choice: Aaron Lynch DE43. Available RD5: Brandon Linder OG Miami (FL) Christian Kirksey OLB43 Iowa Charles Sims RBF WVU Morgan Moses OT Virginia Jonathan Brown OLB43 Illinois Martavis Bryant WRF Clemson JaWuan James OT Tennessee I see a couple of guys on here that may move up due to their Senior Bowl performances, but I take OL here. Morgan Moses is amazing with ideal size, quick feet, and his specialty is run blocking. JaWuan James has 49 games' experience at RT and he's 6'6" 324. I could see either pushing for RT starter by Game 1. Choice: Morgan Moses RT. Available RD6: Calvin Barnett DT43 Oklahoma State Andre Williams RBF Boston College Terrance West RBF Towson Shaquil Barrett OLB43 Colorado State Justin Britt OT Missouri Here I pounce on the heir apparent to Fred Jackson. Andre Williams was a one-man show in BC, but his running style is conducive to injury. Terrance West is my choice: 4,854 yards in his three seasons at Towson, including 84 touchdowns. Choice: Terrance West RB. Available RD7: Aaron Murray QB Georgia Eric Ward WRF Texas Tech John Urschel OG Penn State Marquis Spruill OLB43 Syracuse Joel Bitonio OT Nevada T.J. Jones WRF Notre Dame Michael Campanaro WRF Wake Forest Jeff Janis WRF Saginaw Valley I think if the Bills take a QB in the draft it will be this late, and I could see Murray sit for 3 years, learning without fans clamoring for him to take over. But Urschel and Bitonio are excellent run-blockers, and I still see good WRs in UDFA, so I'll pass on all of them. Choice: Bitonio OT
  20. I think the chances of a trade-down are pretty good. You can't prevent teams from calling us if they want (in my scenario): the #1 WR, the #1 CB, the #1 TE, the #1 DT43, or the #1 FS. I also think there will be a run on CB in RD2 that will cause teams to value CB higher, earlier.
  21. It's too bad, because Benjamin has huge hands (you'll see how huge at the Combine). He's also a stick—will need to add muscle in arms for better push-off, and get some plyometric training to build his leap height—don’t think his vert at Combine will be more than average. Sometimes Benjamin doesn’t jump any higher than the top of his defender’s ankle socks—the 5’10” Mincy out-jumped him in the Nat. championship, if you can find that. He's a smooth runner, though--reminiscent of James Lofton in just that regard. I think he'll still be a second rounder, maybe early third when all is said and done. The knock on Watkins is the inordinate number of screens he's been schemed. This was part Clemson, and part a way to get him into space. I could see us working more screens into our offense with 3 speedy wideouts and 2 good RBs (or a 1-1 with an unpredictable TE). Too many mismatches for the defense.
  22. I know this is the popular choice, but it isn't likely, IMHO. Alonso was drafted to play WILB--a position that (excuse me Bradham) is yet unfilled. Alonso did so well early that he played a position he wasn't even drafted to fill--and may make DROY. I could see this happening: 1 Houston Teddy Bridgewater QB 2 St Louis Jake Matthews LOT 3 Jacksonville Johnny Manziel QB 4 Cleveland Derek Carr QB 5 Oakland Jadeveon Clowney DE43 6 Atlanta Anthony Barr OLB43 7 Tampa Bay Khalil Mack OLB43 8 Minnesota Blake Bortles QB 9 Buffalo Sammy Watkins WRF And if somebody craves a CB, we'd have the choice of Watkins, Bortles, Mosley, Greg Robinson, or trade down for Ebron etc.
  23. Statistically the Bills do better than they really are. This is PFF watching every single play of every single game and grading teams/individuals out. They note, for example, that Spiller bounces outside even when the hole next to Wood was the better option.
  24. This is a coincidence. I was about to come here and ask, "Are the Bills closer to being the Seahawks or Broncos?" My position was that we're getting to Seahawks territory, and I looked on PFF Signature Stats for some numbers. Pass Offense: Seahawks 6th, Bills second to last. Pass Blocking: Seahawks 9th from last, Bills 12th. Rush Offense: Seahawks 2nd, Bills fifth to last. Run Blocking: Seahawks 10th from last, Bills 8th from last. Okay, offense so not so much, but the defenses are closer: Overall D: Seahawks 1st, Bills 4th. Run Defense: Seahawks 6th, Bills 4th. Pass Rush: : Seahawks 1st, Bills 8th. Pass Cover: : Seahawks 1st, Bills 5th. Special Teams: Seahawks 6th, Bills 2nd worst. All Right; I laughed.
  25. I think we do have their D, just without their attitude. We need one more pile-driving RB (Hyde? Andre Williams?) to groom to replace FJ. We tried to play football with 5 quarterbacks this year--that's not inefficiency, that's inconsistency. Get EJ a line in front of him for chrissakes.
