Saban Doesn't Think Ricky W. has Drug Problem
Astrobot replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some years ago, The new Dean of Students at my college came to visit our fraternity house. He asked if there was a drug problem on our campus. One of my brothers piped up: "Not a problem at all. You can pretty much get what you want." -
A good possible trade candidate for the Bills...
Astrobot replied to 2003's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The 2001 Draft is probably the best recent example of trading down. We had the 14th pick. Tampa Bay traded up, giving us their #21 and a 2nd Rounder. T-Bay took Kenyatta Walker OT, and we took Nate Clements with their #21. We then took Aaron Schobel with our regular RD#2 pick, and traded our acquired 2nd Rounder to Denver, to move 6 spots down to get Travis Henry. We got their 4th Rounder for our trouble (Brandon Spoon). -

I do think it's a good mock (with the reversal of his AJ Hawk to the Saints and the Packers taking Mario Williams). Here's who Prisco has us not taking at #8 that are far more likely. Michael Huff, CB-S, Texas Winston Justice, T, USC Jimmy Williams, CB, Virginia Tech Broderick Bunkley, DT, Florida State We have 5 QB's on the roster, but essentially Nall-Losman-Holcomb. I'm happier with that lineup's potential than Peters-Gandy-Jerman or Tripplet-Anderson-Jefferson. I'd also take Huff for Safety help.

I vote for The L.A. Bigmarkets. -
They might be interested in a Tulane guy...

I think it's entirely possible that the Bills will get the #1 player at 3 positions in this draft. To do that, you take Ngata DT, or Michael Huff SS in RD#1. Both very doable at #8, and both upgrade our defense now. Right now I'd choose Huff but would have ngata problem with Ngata. (I'm assuming Hawk is gone) You take Spencer OG, Jason Allen FS or D'Qwell Jackson MLB in RD#2. Spencer is the obvious choice to start right now, and Allen second, who'd be a #1 pick if not for his injury at Tennessee. But London may need more than Crowell waiting in the wings. I'd choose Spencer if he's still around at our pick (I'm assuming Mangold is gone). You take Matt Bernstein FB in Round #4 (many drafts even project him in RD#5 because fewer teams use the 2-back set). Here's a chance to grab a solid FB. Sorry I'm not sold on Goldsberry as heir apparent to Shelton. Heck, take Virginia's Connor Hughes and get the #1 kicker in Round 6. ------ I know, let the draft come to me. Well, this is too much fun!

Well, now you know the first 2 off the board, but they're following what most Mock Drafts have said all along. 1. 45 different mock drafts have Houston taking Bush 2. 19 show New Orleans taking DaBrick (11 taking Leinart, 8 taking Mario Williams). 3. 32 show Tennessee taking Leinart. Only 8 think it'll be Vince Young. If you wanted N.O. to trade this pick, your wish just went poof.

the 5th round - a black hole for the bills

What a great run we had in Round 1 from '85 to 91. The Round 1 picks were superb for this stretch; no wonder we went to 4 Shows in a row. 1985 1 1 1 Bruce Smith Virginia Tech DE 1986 1 16 16 Ronnie Harmon Iowa RB 1987 1 8 8 Shane Conlan Penn State LB 1988 2 13 40 Thurman Thomas Oklahoma State RB 1989 3 26 82 Don Beebe Chadron State WR 1990 1 16 16 James Williams Fresno State DB 1991 1 26 26 Henry Jones Illinois DB -

The Batavia Bills. Has a Nice Ring to it. -
I myself would take the best FB in the draft at #178. Bernstein would be money inside the 5 with Willis (not a "3rd Down Back") in the backfield. What's wrong with the fantasy world? Reality doing it for ya?

Rams needs: 1) Cornerback They have some solid players but lack a true #1 cover guy. 2) Tight End A true receiving threat is needed to compliment Manumaleuna. 3) Defensive Line Their depth here took a major hit in free agency this year. They would be shooting for Tye Hill at CB, who the Lions like. They would have a shot at Vernon Davis, who the Cards like. And of course Haloti Ngata, who we and the Browns like.

This is the best time of the year for us draft droids. We comb the draft sites, invent crazy trades, figure the implications of a recent FA signing...I love this stuff! Great substitute for my former addictions, titanium and WD-40. Astro

Right now, we pick #8, 42, 70, 73, 105, 178, 216, 248. 5 picks in the Top 100ish. I propose a trade with the Rams, exchanging our #8 for their #11 and their #77. And we trade Moulds to Houston for their #66 pick in Round 3 (they own the 1st & 2nd pick in that Round). 7 picks in the Top 100ish. Current players roughly at those positions: Source 11. DT Brodrick Bunkley 42. OT Jonathan Scott 66. OG Davin Joseph 70. S Roman Harper 73. WR Hank Baskett 77. OG Taitusi Latui Day 2: 105. DE Chris Gocong or QB Charlie Whitehurst 178. QB Bruce Gradkowski or FB Matt Bernstein 216. RB Mike Bell or LB Terna Nande 248. WR Ben Obomanu or KR Ashlan Davis

One way that we can rebuild is to capitalize more on our strengths. For example, our linebacking crew is excellent. The Cover-2, as I understand it, would take better advantage of this strength, as would speedier safeties with hands (the anti-Coy). I think we are close to having D-Line become a strength. Tripplett plus one more DT can make Schobel and Kelsay (and perhaps Darryl Tapp or Elvis Dumervil) even more productive. Special Teams will continue to be a specialty of the Bills, giving us better field position and the chance to ramp up our Red Zone game with some missing ingredients--TE (Everett or V.Davis), a tall WR (Nance, Baskett, Stovall), and a revamped O-line that can sustain blocks.
-
The second draft, where we trade down and acquire 2 DT's, a OG, OT, and a S, is almost too good to be true. Yet when I look at the other names, I can't see the draft being "fixed" for a particular team. I'd be very happy with either scenario, and makes me feel better about a trade-down scenario going our way.

One more that I like involves us trading down for Bunkley: Source 17. Bills (MIN) – Broderick Bunkley – DT – Florida State 42. Bills – Jason Allen – FS/CB – Tennessee 51. Bills (MIN) – Davin Joseph – G/T – Oklahoma 70. Bills – Jonathan Scott – OT – Texas 98. Bills (HOU) – Dusty Dvoracek – DT – Oklahoma 105. Bills – Brian Calhoun – RB – Wisconsin 115. Bills (MIN) – Hank Baskett – WR – New Mexico I like this one all the way down, and shows what a great trade-down would look like. Astro

Source 8. BUFFALO: Michael Huff 6-1 205 S/CB Texas 42. BUFFALO: John McCargo 6-2 302 DT North Carolina State 70. BUFFALO(fm TEN): Taitusi Lutui 6-4 334 OG Southern Cal 73. BUFFALO: Charlie Whitehurst 6-5 223 QB Clemson 106. BUFFALO: Jerome Harrison 5-9 201 RB Washington State 143. BUFFALO: Devin Aromashadu 6-2 201 WR Auburn I'd be satisfied with this one. We get Huff, DT and OG help with our first 3 picks. Whitehurst may not be our pick at 73 (Maurice Stovall 6-4 216 WR Notre Dame or Montavious Stanley 6-2 313 DT Louisville are still on the board), and at 106 I'd have taken Spencer Havner 6-3 242 LB UCLA. But if the 1st 3 picks came down like this I'd be ecstatic.

Like our picks for the most part, though: 1. Buffalo Bills Haloti Ngata DT Oregon 2. Buffalo Bills Jonathan Scott OT Texas 3. Buffalo Bills (from TEN) Richard Marshall CB Fresno St. 3. Buffalo Bills Brodie Croyle QB Alabama --would have taken O'Callaghan or McCargo here 4. Buffalo Bills Roman Harper S Alabama 5. Buffalo Bills Frostee Rucker DE USC 6. Buffalo Bills Terna Nande OLB Miami (oh) 7. Buffalo Bills Jeff Webb WR San Diego St. --would have taken Matt Bernstein FB Wisconsin 7. Buffalo Bills (comp) Darrell Brooks S Arizona
