  1. Good plucker. Of the top 7 TE's in this draft, only 2 --Carlson and Bennett-- are rated better than average blockers. Bennett's likely a RD#2 pick (DraftTek has him going to us there), and Carlson goes in RD#4 to Atlanta 11 picks before ours.
  2. Agree. I do like the scenario of trading back into the first (pulling a McCargo, we could call it). I think if we could get a CB at #11 (assuming nobody knocks on our door to get an offensive tackle at #11), we can have a good choice of WR in the bottom half of the 1st Round.
  3. How did he reach you at the local watering hole, and did Erik say, "Give me Hedd"? I used to give telemarketers grief. Now I just say, "Wow! I'm interested! Tell me more!" and put the phone down until they hang up. My other ploy is to say, "Listen, this isn't a good time. Can you give me your home phone number, and I'll call you during the dinner hour?"
  4. But second chances are for second rounds.
  5. I have a feeling that Patrick Lee could go sooner than the 5th. This is because there is nobody better in Round 4 for CB, and I see a need for at least 18 CB's from this draft, and nobody's going to want what's left in Round 7.
  6. There are precious few people we'll be able to draft on April 26-27 that have that all-important "Long U" sound. There's a lot of Long O this year, with Otah and Gholston, Long E with Sweed, a lot of ARRRR names for the pirates amongst ye. Heck, Art Carmody, the NCAA's top point scorerr of all time, has two of them. OOO! But we need to get back to the days when the "UUUUUUUUUUUUUUU's" filled the Ralph, and not just when Belicheat enters. I've given this a lot of thought. Here is my All-"UUUUUUUUUU" Draft: OOO RD#1. Jonathan StUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUart RB. OOO RD#2. Early DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUcet, WR. OOO RD#3. Roy SchUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUening, OG. OOO RD#4. Andre FlUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUellen, TE. OOO RD#4. Jeremy ZUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUttah, OT. OOO RD#5. John David BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUty, QB. OOO RD#6. Jack IkegwUUUUUUUUUUonUUUUUUUUUUUUUU, CB. OOO RD#7. Tom DeCoUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUd, FS. OOO RD#7. Husain AbdUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUllah, FS. OOO RD#7. Mario UrruUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUtia, WR. (Actually I like some of these guys, and wouldn't mind seeing them in a Bills UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUniform) Astro
  7. GREAT list, YOOOO. Chris Johnson from ECU is scary fast, and would make a great Lightning for Lynch's thunder. In the same round, I would prefer Martellus Bennett over Keller for Bennett's blocking, and I have nobody to offer up (except Pollak in RD#2 and MAYBE Jamie Richard from Buffalo) to be a better Center than Justice, who I think might get pushed around, especially by the big DT's in our division. I covet Josh Johnson, Cason would be a great present in the 2nd, and I like Wheeler in the 3rd.
  8. My favorites are Devin Thomas, Keilen Dykes, and Jamie Silva. Silva is a Thorpe award finalist; Thorpe is the Heisman of character. I'm wondering whether Silva will make it past RD#6. I always see him there in the DraftTek sims.
  9. Reggie Smith would be an "off the radar" pick. He can play CB, Safety, Kick Returner and Punt Returner. He's a good fit for the backfield. Would I be happy? Not Really. It's Whitneresque, so not completely off the wall.
  10. "I decided we were going to go to a few more places this year for the prospective college free agents," said Modrak. "For example, we'll go into some schools that might be between Alabama and Auburn where you're driving and there's a late pick or free agent prospect. We'll stop and work him out and get to know him. It's not all just the top of the heap kind of guys." Source I wondered if Modrak's reference to Auburn and Alabama was speaking of one of these late-draft guys: FB RD#7 Carl Stewart - Auburn: too small, and his ypc isn't impressive compared to Joel Collins or Owen Schmitt. Pass. CB UDFA Jonathan Wilhite - Auburn 4.38 5'9" hammy trouble in 2006: Not a big risk taking him in UDFA, but he's tiny. DE RD#6 Wallace Gilberry - Alabama: Better, but Gilberry lacks the speed that we want at DE. Cb RD#5 Patrick Lee - Auburn 6'0 200: Ahhhh, this must be the guy Modrak's talking about. Great Potential & Great speed.
  11. All strong picks, Vet. I would almost bet that one will be a Bill in 17-18 days.
  12. A guy wrote me at DraftTek suggesting this trade. He was thinking it was a way to get a former RD#1 cornerback who is pretty good at the things we ask a corner to do, plus take the WR. Hadn't thought of trading back in for Merling. Here's something Modrak said: "For example, the kid at Clemson, Phillip Merling (defensive end) has had hernia surgery and I don't know when he's going to be able to run," said Modrak. "We're going to go with what we saw on tape if he can't run or test before the draft. You'd love to have all the T's crossed and I's dotted because it gives you a clearer picture, but Willis McGahee is a great example. He didn't do any real testing before the draft and we knew we'd have to sit him for a year and he went to Hawaii this year. So it's not catastrophic if a guy can't test." Source
  13. Both of them go in Round 3 in the latest DraftTek simulation. 64 for Bennett and 97 for Nelson, so Nelson at least will be a great 3rd Round pick.
  14. I can't argue. I have exactly the same players. Here are mine for Round 2, based on who I think will be there to choose from: Martellus Bennett TE Fred Davis TE Dustin Keller TE Trevor Laws DT Pat Sims DT Mike Pollak OC and OG Chilo Rachal OG Reggie Smith CB Lawrence Jackson DE
  15. There's a Kicker named LONGEST? Git 'im in here!!! All Right, All 3rd Rounders or Below. QB---Josh Johnson (4th Round) RB---Chad Hall, Air Force (7th) FB--- Joel Collins - Wash St 250, 6.3 ypc (6th-7th) WR---Chaz Shilens SDSt,6'4,208,4.3 (7th-UDFA) TE---Craig Stevens CAL (7th) OT---Mike Gibson CAL (sprung Lynch!) (Round 7) OG---Mike McGlynn - Pgh 6'4 311 RG (Round 3) OC---None! DE---Brian Johnston Gard-Wb (Round 5) DT---Frank Okam-Texas (Round 5-6) OLB---Lamar Myles-Louisville (Round 5-6) ILB---None! CB---Patrick Lee-Auburn (Round 5) FS---Tom DeCoud-CAL (Round 6) SS---Jamie Silva - BC, 115tackles, ST, Thorpe finalist (Round 6) Kicker ---Art Carmody- L'ville all-time NCAA leader in points
  16. Good Pick, Mr. Jauron! Kerry Brown is one of the best late round values at OG...Mean, great feet, persistent. Oh, and he's a hunter. Hopefully better than Cheney.
  17. Great NEws! #1 OLB Keith Rivers drops in our lap, and the Bills have the best LB corps since the good old days.
  18. It was Liam Coen. He'd wanted to pla at BC, but ended up at UMass. He's part of the 2009 draft class.
  19. I remember the praise for this kid. And Shilen's QB at SD State WAS good. Kevin O’Connell.
  20. What I know is that he was more of a 3-4 guy, and a tweener (LB), who was too small for DE in a 4-3. His 40 time was slow (4.76). I saw him too in several games, and liked his relentlessness--sort of like that tweener Dwight Freeney!!!
  21. Trade Down To Washington's #21 spot for their RD2 (#51) and their RD3 compensatory (#96). Washington now can draft the OT they covet (presumably Williams or Clady) or DE (Merling or Harvey). If they stay at #21, they get the leftovers (Cherilus, Calais Campbell). They still have a RD#3 for OLB (Erin Henderson?). The Bills Draft: RD#1, Pick 21 --- Malcolm Kelly WR RD#2, Pick 42 --- Lawrence Jackson DE RD#2, Pick 51 --- Trevor Laws DT (from the RD1 Trade Down with Washington) RD#3, Pick 73 --- Charles Godfrey CB RD#3, Pick 96 --- Bruce Davis OLB (from the RD1 Trade Down with Washington) RD#4, Pick 111 -- John Carlson TE RD#4, Pick 132 -- Owen Schmitt FB (compensatory pick) RD#5, Pick 142 -- Jamar Adams SS RD#6, Pick 170 -- Mike Gibson OT - sprung Lynch at Cal RD#7, Pick 202 -- Dennis Dixon QB RD#7, Pick 210 -- Fernando Velasco OC RD#7, Pick 251 -- Chaz Shilens WR (compensatory pick)
  22. My Right Guard pick would be Pittsburgh's Mike McGlynn in RD#3 or even RD#4. I was concerned about Brandon Albert's bench score, which is the worst of the top 5 guards.
