  1. Anybody think that the Bills are looking at FA Tight Ends and an early TE pick next year? First, the look at TE's already playing. Here are the TE's who will be Free Agents in 2009 if they don't get re-signed by their respective teams, with age and yrs in NFL... Desmond Clark TE CHI 31 9 Will Heller--------TE SEA 27 5 Jeff King--------- TE CAR 25 2 Jim Kleinsasser- TE MIN 31 8 Ben Patrick------ TE ARI 24 1 Leonard Pope----TE ARI 25 2 L.J. Smith--------TE PHI 28 5 Daniel Wilcox----TE BAL 31 4 If we take one of these guys, it won't be a 31-year-old. That limits it to Heller, King, Patrick, Pope and Smith. Will Heller is worse than we have. King, 260-lb. 5th RD, 2nd yr. is the receiving type. In his 1 16-game season his 46 catches netted 406 yds. Patrick, 260 lb. 7th RD, 1st yr. played 6 games last year. 7 catches, 73 yd. They'll keep Pope, release King. Pope, 260 lb. 3rd RD, had his best year a year ago, 23 catches 238 yd. LJ Smith, 260 lb. 2nd RD, had his best year 2 years ago. 50 catches 611 yd, and has played fewer and fewer games since. Wilcox, 250 lb UDFA, has never played a full season. His best was 14 games 2 years ago, 20 catches 166 yd. If we can't get Jeff King, watch for the Bills to draft TE early (RD 2 or 3). No TE's will be worth a RD1 pick at the point we'll be drafting one. It'll be too early to take Chase Coffman, and Brandon Pettigrew is a better match for what we need, and we could trade back in RD1 for him or trade up in RD2.
  2. Bob Matthews is constipated, and should use his own head as a suppository.
  3. Fins nothing to fear We won the last 4 meetings Lynch exceeds OJ
  4. Poz will have his best game. 13 tackles. Donte Whitner and Greer will also have huge games.
  5. I didn't have the positions in a particular order, and I realize I should have rank-ordered the "Stock Up" positions, especially. My leaning this month (and a really early Bills mock draft reflecting those priorities) is as follows: 1--TE---I like Brandon Pettigrew even more than Chase Coffman for our purposes. Best run and block TE in college. 2--OC---Jonathan Luigs will be there while Alex Mack won't. 3--DE---Greg Middleton, superb athlete is still there (for now) in round 3. Don't count on it in April, though. 4--ILB---There will be a run on OLB's in early rounds, but Scott McKillop from Pgh is top 5 in TFL's and Tackles. 5--OLB---Orion Martin of the Hokies has looked in early games, with 2 game changing plays in 2 games in Sept. 6--SS--Michigan State's Otis Wiley is a hitter and a teammate. 7--DT--Alex Magee, Purdue, plays DE and DT, so he slips to here.
  6. As Bills Correspondent to www.DraftTek.com I plan to do a Bills "Stock Up, Stock Down" once a month until the draft. For each position, I will indicate what the Bills might be thinking in terms of drafting/free agency priority. Stock Up means that the Bills need to think harder about drafting a player at that position, and Stocl Down means the position is less of a priority than last month. Here's October's Stock Up, Stock Down: FB: Stock Up. McIntyre is better than Barnes, but we need the fastest, biggest FB we can find to blast holes for our RB duo. WR: Stock Down. Relatively speaking, this is currently less of a need as Parrish, Reed, Hardy and a new Evans contract seem to be making great connections with Edwards. TE: Stock Up. This is clearly a need in a Turk Schoenert offense. A second TE is needed to block, catch, and open up spaces between the seams. Right now, we don't know if Derek Fine is the answer because of injuries. Schouman is too small, and we need a top-tier TE to force OC's to game plan for. QB: Stock Up. Losman will be gone and while the Bills (and TSW'ers) like Hamdan, they will most likely draft one. RB:Stock Down. Lynch and Jackson are evolving into a Top 4 one-two punch in the NFL. Xavier Omon looked good in preseason. 'Nuff said. OC:Stock Up. Melvin Fowler's injury and our RB's difficulty running between the tackles underscore the need for a Center of the Alex Mack/Jonathan Luigs caliber. OT:Stock Down. Kirk Chambers looked good in relief of Peters, and we drafted Demetrius Bell, who looks solid. Peters is playing into shape. OG: Stock Up. Butler is good but hurt, Whittle is a solid backup, and Preston is the Bills' backup at two positions (OG and OC). We need another player for depth here. DE: Stock Up. Schoebel has been dinged, and Kelsay-Denney is not striking fear into any OC's game planning. Moreover, this is a banner year for DE's in the draft. DT:Stock Up. The Bills hit pay dirt with Stroud and Johnson, and have proved that good DT's force QB's to make rash decisions. Williams is an overachiever, and evidently McCargo is expendable, evidenced by this month's trade with the Colts that went south. OLB:Stock Up. Crowell will be gone, DiGiorgio is now a question mark, and Bowen is untested. Kavicka Mitchell is a great addition, but will be on the wrong side of 30. Ellison is versatile but we need more speed on the outside. ILB: Stock Up. OLB Ellison and an injured DiGiorgio have been suggested as backups to Poz. Both are big dropoffs. We need ILB more than a month ago. CB:Stock Down. While raw, McKelvin looks like he can play, McGee will be back soon, and Greer has been awesome. Jauron and Fewell have shown that they can get Whitner to play CB as well. Youboty has begun to show promise, and Reggie Corner gives us great depth at a previous weakness. S:Stock Up. Scott has been a very satisfying surprise in recent games. Whitner's a good leader and shows tremendous blitzing ability. Wilson is favored by the coaches. John Wendling is a good ST guy. We need one more safety with range, good instincts, and hitting ability.
  7. Rivers said if he had 10 more chances, we'd have 10 more picks. He was in awe of that pick play. A thing of beauty. Kudos to our defense.
  8. This is a great question. Thanks for starting the thread. If two running backs have virtually the same average yards per carry, I blame the O-Line. Jackson's average and Marshawn's are becoming more the same. We have had lots of "reasons" for excusing the O-Line (Peters' late arrival, Fowler's injury, Brad Butler's injury, etc.), but it's more and more their fault. That said, I will bet that, as Edwards has more 83% passing games, teams won't cheat up a safety or put 8 in the box, and the running backs will get their 100 yard games.
  9. Is OC a position that people would be willing to use a #1 pick plus a 3rd on? It will take that much to get Alex Mack. I think he'll be long gone by the end of RD#1. Astro
  10. The last DraftTek.com simulation had us taking Luigs, as MAck wasn't there when we picked-- 5th from the end of RD#1!
  11. For that matter, Pitlick is too much information.
  12. Hey War', what would you like wallers to do if they know of a player that should be on the Big Board, since we use an averaging?
  13. I just checked with Warren. There ARE juniors and even a few sophomores on the Player List on our Big Board here: http://www.drafttek.com/2009players.html I've told him that Beckum and Cody are missing. If you know of other players missing, let me know. We'll soon have another discussion about Positional Priorities. For now, we have TE as a high priority, DE OC and OLB right up there. I've had a reader from DraftTek say that Safety ought to be up there too--what do you think? Astro
  14. This is a wonderful article on the use and availability of Tight Ends. It's made me re-think our draft already. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/33514-o...m-2008s-best-te
  15. Juniors haven't been added to the Player List yet. He'd make a nice TE. Is he the one from Wisconsin? Evans is a Badger, and he turned out all right. Astro
  16. www.DraftTek.com opened on October 2 with its first 2009 draft, a 3-rounder. You'll be happy to know that we draft 5th from last. The new sim engine allows you to change things yourself (such as how important OLB or TE is to you for example). Lots of fun. The published sim is a result of your position preferences that I asked for about 3 weeks ago (OC, TE, and OLB were pretty high). I'd urge you to take a look at our picks. I'd personally do a happy dance if this were the draft. Round 1: http://www.drafttek.com/round12009.asp - An OLB falls to us although I really like PGH's pick, one before us, and I doubt pick 30 will still be pick 30 in April. Round 2: http://www.drafttek.com/round22009.asp - We get a guy who's +13 on our Value scale who might be kicking an injured player off the team in Summer 2009. Round 3: http://www.drafttek.com/round32009.asp - If you don't get the best player at his position, McNiel is a good #3 or 4. Picque your interest? Astrobot
  17. I thought this was a poll. For the record, I choose Prozac.
  18. I enjoyed my first Moose Drool at the Big Sky Brewing Company. I promptly bought 2 of their glasses, which I use regularly. While it's easy to get in western US, I think you can get Moose Drool in Rochester at Beers of the World, 3450 Winton Place, Rochester NY, 14623.
  19. Add to that Lindell kicking in a dome, TE's evolving chemistry with Evans, and Schouman picking up some slack. 23-14, Billssss.
  20. My grandfather and dad are with your dad, fer sure. All will tell you that the temperature in Heaven for all Bills games is 70 degrees. Much like a suite, except totally free. They have small fridges down in front in case you want bottles of beer. They still have waitresses in short skirts, who will come down front, and bend WAYYYYYYY over to pick you out a cold one. And every bottle, regardless of brand, stays the same temperature as that first taste. Oh, and did I mention they come with nipples? The beer bottles. I was talking about the beer bottles.
  21. I have to agree with you. Also, the Cards are vulnerable to the deep pass (as Favre found out). Evans has to be licking his chops.
  22. http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL/A.../spin092908.htm But the same secondary that finished 29th in the league in pass defense in 2007 is ranked fifth in 2008..... The Bills' D-backs have gotten physical. Where they used to play off the line and avoid contact, they have stuck their nose into the thick of the action and delivered the blow instead of absorbing it. No Bills defensive back has personified their dramatic shift in physicality more than embattled CB Ashton Youboty. The third-year pro out of Ohio State entered training camp as a likely cut casualty, with his lack of toughness at the root of his problems. But something clicked for him early on, and he’s made as dramatic a turnaround as a player can make. Rather than sitting out with bumps and bruises, he’s delivering the wood on opposing ballcarriers, serving as arguably the most physical defensive back Buffalo has. On Sunday in St. Louis, McKelvin also got into the act. With starting CB Terrence McGee sitting out much of the afternoon with a sprained knee, McKelvin saw his most extensive action of the season and made his presence known quickly. On a play that actually marked his first career tackle as well, McKelvin slammed into Rams WR Dane Looker and jarred the ball loose for a fumble. Bills defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is philosophically conservative when it comes to his play-calling, but having physical, dependable corners has enabled him to be more creative with how he’s using his safeties. Primarily, he’s allowed SS Donte Whitner to do more freelancing throughout the formations, something that has been incredibly welcomed by Whitner, who has wanted to be deployed in a manner similar to fellow AFC safeties Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed and Bob Sanders. On Sunday, Whitner made the most of his opportunities, slamming Green for a sack on one such blitz. The Bills aren’t likely to deviate much from their zone schemes into man press, but they’re nonetheless playing with a sense of purpose and pride in the secondary that was lacking for much of 2007.
