  1. I don't like the DE choices in FA, so it'd have to be a trade for a non-FA player. There are good choices at TE, so I don't see us tkaing TE in the draft at this point.
  2. HOMER MINI MOCK: Cincy is the first fork in the road. Let's say they take OT Andre Smith over Orakpo. Brian Orakpo then goes to Oakland at 7. Orakpo is likely gone by 7 at the latest. Jax will take OT or Maualuga--most say OT. Let's say Eugene Monroe OT. Green Bay, who many draftniks say will draft Orakpo if he's there, will take Malcolm Jenkins. Charles Woodson is 32 and Al Harris (ruptured spleen) is 34. Like last year, San Fran has the chance to muck it up for the Bills. They could take Raji DT, Sanchez QB, a LB again (Maualuga, Everette Brown DE/OLB, Curry if he drops) or take one of the top 3 OT's (after Oher; Monroe, Smith, Smith). They took Willis last year, and Shaun Hill is their QB. Even though Singletary is a Defense guy, they take QB Mark Sanchez. That takes us up to the Bills pick, where in this scenario they have quite a nice choice on the board: Rey Maulaluga ILB--------- (at 14 on our Big Board) BJ Raji DT -------------------(at 15 on our Big Board) Everette Brown DE/OLB---- (at 9 on our Big Board) Jason Smith OT Baylor -----(at 11 on our Big Board) Jeremy Maclin WR---------- (at 13 on our Big Board) Pettigrew TE -----------------(at 27 on our Big Board) Is this a no-brainer for Everette Brown, who some NFL guys are saying would be a good 3-4 LB (he's 254 pounds)? Or do you grab Maualuga and push Poz outside? Or do you take Raji for an awesome 1-2 DT rush combo? Does the fact that Jason Smith is still there change your mind? Do you want the best TE in the draft (and the only one who can block as well as catch)? Notice I am NOT giving you a trade-down choice. This will help me reshuffle our Positional Priorities at DraftTek. Thanks! Astro
  3. The Bills are in a great spot at #11 in the 2009 Draft, only 91 Days away for those counting. If they look at the available free agents, they will notice that the weak spot is DE. There are some good experienced Tight Ends on the Free Agent market, which I believe sways the Bills to look at Defensive End with their First Rounder. The Bills can hope to get Texas DE Brian Orakpo there, but he'd have to get past Cincinnati and Oakland at 6 and 7. Cincinnati's needs almost replicate ours in this draft, and they could be an annoyance all day. One hopes they trade down and/or take RB Knowshon Moreno with their first pick. If Orakpo is gone, Tyson Jackson of LSU would be attractive, but I wouldn't want him as early as 11. It's usually hard finding a trade partner, but Minnesota needs a QB, and at #11 they could leapfrog the Jets and take Matt Stafford or Mark Sanchez. Minnesota picks at #22. A drop from #11 to #22 nets the Bills a player like DE's Jackson, Paul Kruger from Utah or Michael Johnson from Georgia, as well as a second round pick. I ran this through the www.DraftTek.com Simulator, and we took Kruger at #22, followed by TE Chase Coffman at #42 and OC Alex Mack at #54.
  4. The video footage of Wood is amazing. He walls out very well and gets to the LB's often. I like Wood better than Mack, with Unger just below Wood. Mayock has Mack 3rd, in fact, with Unger (Oregon, I think) second.
  5. I just used the DraftTek Simulator to do a William Moore in the 2nd Draft, but he was taken 3 picks before us. Nevertheless, it was an interesting draft especially from the Offensive side. 1---Percy Harvin WR 2---Chase Coffman TE 3---Jarron Gilbert SanJose State DE
  6. The Bills Take: 1-Brandon Pettigrew TE Oklahoma St 2-Tyson Jackson DE (4-3) LSU 3-Eric Wood OC Louisville 4-Austin Collie WR BYU 5-Jason Williams OLB (4-3) Western Illinois Continued Here This presupposes re-signing a healthy Crowell and acquiring a few FA's, probably at OG and Safety (Ko "Millionaire" Simpson). I'd like to see one more WR in the event that Hardy/ Johnson/ Reed is actually just one good receiver and one good blocker. If you want to see a different scenario, the DraftTek Simulator here lets you make trades, grab a player, prevent a player from being taken, etc. If you do one, let us know the results. 7. We have him gone by San Francisco's pick at 10, and probably Oakland's pick at #7. You will remember the 49'ers, the ones who took Patrick Willis LB. As of Jan 15, we think it'll be 1 Detroit Eugene Monroe OT Virginia -2 Reach 2 St Louis Michael Oher OT Mississippi -3 Reach 3 Kansas City Aaron Curry ILB Wake Forest +1 Value 4 Seattle Michael Crabtree WRF Texas Tech +3 Value 5 Cleveland Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio State +1 Value 6 Cincinnati Andre Smith OT Alabama +0 Value 7 Oakland Brian Orakpo DE43 Texas -3 Reach 8 Jacksonville Jeremy Maclin WRF Missouri -5 Reach 9 Green Bay BJ Raji DT43 Boston College -5 Reach 10 San Francisco Jason Smith OT Baylor +2 Value 11 Buffalo Everette Brown DE43 Florida State +0 Value and we're doing another Consensus Mock tomorrow. 8. When you look at the #10-18 players, 10. Brian Orakpo DE Texas 95 11. Jason Smith OT Baylor 95 12. Knowshon Moreno** RB Georgia 94 13. Brandon Pettigrew TE Okla. State 93 14. B.J. Raji* DT Boston College 93 15. Rey Maualuga ILB USC 93 16. Percy Harvin* WR Florida 93 17. Vontae Davis* CB Illinois 93 18. Everette Brown* DE Florida State 93 We can throw out Moreno and Davis as likely RD#1 picks. Raji and Everette Brown are good defensive choices--Orakpo played like he was absent on 3 games I saw. Of course that's less than Kelsay. Pettigrew is my choice for offense. Harvin could take pressure off of Evans, but I suspect Pettigrew could take pressure off of our quarterback.
  9. 1---Brandon Pettigrew TE Oklahoma St 2---Matt Shaughnessy DE Wisconsin 3---Antoine Caldwell OC Alabama 4--Darrius Passmore WR Marshall 5---Andy Kemp OG Wisconsin 6---Lee Robinson OLB Alcorn State Source: http://www.drafttek.com/round12009.asp Not bad. However, we leave Rey Maualuga ILB on the board in the first round, and don't draft a OLB until Round 6. I mean, I know Crowell is interested in returning, but... I used DraftTek's online simulator and took Maualuga in Round 1, and here's the results: 1---Rey Maualuga ILB USC 2---Matt Shaughnessy DE Wisconsin 3---Antoine Caldwell OC Alabama This begs the question: If Pettigrew and Maulaluga are there, and you short yourself a TE or a OLB on Day 1, how do you play it?
  10. DraftTek has Brandon Tate WR on their Big Board at #116, suggesting Mid-Round 4 isn't out of the question. Their Mock Draft has him going to the Giants at #124. He'd be unable to run in the combine (ACL), and would not be able to run in minicamps. He may well have to go on someone's PUP list in year one. Is he worth a RD4 to someone? Yes, but probably not us.
  11. I checked on Tupou's run-in with the NCAA (taking money from an agent). Turns out it was $110, and Tupou was suspended for Game 1 of this season. He had to repay the money to a charity of his choice. He's OK by me. Tupou will likely play Guard in the NFL, but he was the big reason you didn't hear Selvie's name much in the Ducks' win over South Florida. Let's pick him. 12. I just checked on Brandon Graham DE, and he's thinking about returning to Michigan, so he's probably out. I have seen Kenny Britt play, and he has a lot to offer. His yardage is impressive, but he's also a very punishing blocker. Check out this crackback block at :37-:40: The other name that jumps out is Ricky Jean-Francois, the DT from LSU. He is a beast, a sackmaster. He would be good on special teams. He's the one that blocked a FG in the BCS game vs. Ohio State. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJhkkC2HLjs -- Blocks FG

  14. How about Mack OC and Hardy DE? That'd be one heckuva draft so far (TE, OC, DE). Let me plug in Mack and Harvey into the simulator and see what we get for the next Round.
  15. Agree. We can't likely draft immediate solutions, and OC certainly requires an immediate solution. We should be looking at next year's upcoming free agents on our team, and decide if we draft replacements.
  16. At present, we have Unger ranked higher than Mack at DraftTek, but not by much. The Pac-10 produced both. Unger has less experience at the position than Mack, as Unger was moved from left tackle. in 07. Unger was born in Hawaii, so the cold weather question looms. Astro
  17. Congratulations, Everybody! This helps produce winners, even when the team isn't. Way to Go!
  18. And if we want this to happen immediately, it will be a FA, not a drafted Center. That's why I am thinking we won't be drafting Mack.
  19. Hardy is #65 on my Big Board, and if the consensus says you want him, he's just under the polayers I listed. He was practically absent in the Cotton Bowl game. I had to ask a buddy if he was actually playing, as he didn't make a tackle until late in the first half. Peria Jerry, on the other hand, kicked serious butt.
