  1. TSW knew that Peyton Hillis was going to be good. Half of the mocks on TSW grabbed him in the 6th round. Denver, I think, took him in the 7th round.
  2. If we wanted Newton we can still draft a very strong OT like Marcus Cannon or Jason Pinkston. What it prevents us from getting is one of the best batch of defensive front 7 guys we've had. I'd rather go defense with pick 1 (Dareus, Bowers, Fairley) and O-line. As an aside, the combine will move some OLB's up in the second round, but right now I don't see an OLB I like in RD#2.
  3. DraftTek now has the Bills drafting 5th in April, with ARI now drafting ahead of us. I had a site visitor ask, "So how do the 3-9 Cardinals get to draft ahead of the 2-10 Bengals and Bills?" He has a point. CAR has ATL (10 wins), ARI (3 wins), PGH (9) and ATL (10) again, (32 wins combined) and may win 1 more game for a total of 2 wins. PREDICTION: 2-14. CIN has PGH away (9 wins), then CLE home (5), SD (6), and BAL (8), teams with 28 combined wins. They have a realistic chance to win 1 game, giving them a 3-win record. PREDICTION: 3-13. DET has GB (8 wins), TB (7), MIA (6), and MIN(5)--26 wins combined. 2-10 now with 1 realistic win. PREDICTION: 3-13. BUF has CLE (5 wins), then MIA (6), NEP (10), and NYJ (9), teams with 30 combined wins. This Sunday is their only realistic shot, and possibly MIA. PREDICTION: 3-13. Victories over DET and CIN give us the 4th pick. ARI has DEN (3 wins) at home this week, then CAR (1 win), DAL (4) and SF(4), teams with 12 combined wins. They have a good chance to win at least 2 more games, finishing them behind the Bills. PREDICTION: 5-11.
  4. Marvin Austin is a year late. He def would have been RD1 last year. I see him as similar to Kyle Williams--I would keep Austin on your list even though he'll likely go to a pure 4-3 team.
  5. Not for long, I don't think. ARI and DEN play this week, and they are #5 and #6 on that list. There's a good chance one of them is going to lose. I'm also looking for a bad weather day, pitting BUF's 3 best rushers (Jackson/Spiller/Fitzpatrick) vs. their best 3 rushers (Peyton Hillis/Colt McCoy with sore ankle/Josh Cribbs with 69 yards on the season).
  6. The guy we should be looking for at RT is Marcus Cannon from TCU. He was actually DraftTek's computer selection in RD#2 this week. I think he's this year's road grader run blocker.
  7. My Impressions/Ratings: Fairley: Most scheme-versatile of the bunch. DT43 or DE34, you don't have to take him out. Most disruptive, nastiest in this draft Dareus: Anchor-type stout lineman who is best run/pass combo of the bunch. Best fit for Bills current defense. Excels in run defense, passrush sacks too, a Ty Warren type, Defensive MVP in BCS Champ.2009, fluid, effortless, impossible for linemen to mirror, needs more muscle Bowers: Best run defender, but most raw in pass rush right now with great potential, good first step, most upside, athletic build Quinn: Tamba Hali type, a premier pass rusher, char issues but ++ OLB prospect in draft, loves contact, strong for size, +leverage, 2nd in NCAA in sacks- was DE so making transition to OLB and NFL, needs muscle, had brain tumor removed in HS Clayborn: holds point well, might struggle as a RDE at next level- lacks speed, lacks 2ndary moves/agility. Doesn't show ability to dip shoulder or roll hips to turn corner. But--Orange Bowl MVP, hustles
  8. Strong post with several provocative reasons. I too wanted Bulaga, and was puzzled with the pick at the time. I grew to like the pick, but it was a curious one. I am willing to give Spiller time.
  9. I won't touch the CB comment. Others will. Dontay Moch is one of my favorite 10 players in the draft. Do we need a QB if we draft him later than RD2? I say no. Ponder CAREER STATS YARDS TOUCHDOWNS 6,866 49 Brown YARDS TOUCHDOWNS 6,968 43 Brohm YARDS TOUCHDOWNS 10,775 70
  10. They passed on Gabe Carimi in RD#2, Mark Ingram wasn't even picked until pick #39, and Stephen Paea DT wasn't picked until #46. Dontay Moch LB at #47 will be long gone by then, as will Ryan Broyles at WR. Wiretap Archives?
  11. I gotta find out where their meetings are...Hope they don't interfere with my 3-hour a day TSW habit.
  12. Our Denver analyst Scott Nelson agrees with you. Here's his comment:
  13. I agree. Friggin' Pats*. I think Bailey is the misfire there, but we could stop the Cheatriots from drafting the top LT. I'd still take Dareus/Bowers, though. What do you think are the chances that Michael Floyd declares for this draft? Around 11:00 this morning, Floyd asked the NFL Advisory Board to assess his draft position. They will likely tell him 2nd round, or late first due to injury history and a stacked Top 50 as far as WR's go.
  14. We'll have the Bowers vs. Dareus argument again and again before draft day. If we switch to 4-3, I agree with you--you go with Bowers, but Dareus fits our current system better. Read my comment on DraftTek; that's what I said. I would jump up and down if we drafted either, but I see Dareus stepping right in and contributing from Play 1. Jeremy Beal is a decent right defensive end who will likely go higher than #64 after the combine. In one game I watched, Beal jumped over a RB for a sack, forced an INT had 2 TFL's, and yet was outplayed by Travis Lewis, the "other" Bama DE.
  15. The latest mock draft with our new positional needs came out, and even though we're now picking FIFTH I'd like the picks the computer gave us. As per Stadium Wall's recommendation, I lowered QB to P2 so that the computer gave us BPA between QB, RT, LT, DE, NT, and OLB. I think you'll like the result. http://www.drafttek.com/CMDRound1.asp - Let me know what you think of my commentary on the first 2 picks. John DiTullio at WHTK in Rochester and D&C columnist Sal Maiorana were just saying that to get better faster, draft the defensive lineman first, the O-lineman second. Love the first 2 choices. Astro
  16. Our Carolina Analyst at Drafttek says the same thing---they'd take Luck. QB is Priority 1 for Carolina. I don't see the Panthers winning another game, and I'm even wondering if the Bengals don't implode at this point. Dallas could also pick ahead of us, and possibly Detroit. But Arizona is the other team who has the priority set at 1 for Quarterback. Arizona is 3-8 and has STL, DEN, CAR, DAL, and SF. Let's hope they pick up at least 2 wins there, and possibly 3.
  17. Kyle Rudolph is this year's combo plate blocker/receiver TE. We'd probably need to trade someone for the pick, as he's likely to go in the #17-27 range. I'm willing to give McKelvin to Baltimore for their RD1. Luke Stocker in RD3 is more do-able.
  18. I am using DraftTek's Big Board and Straight Pick (#2, #34, #66, #99, #131, #163, #195, can't pick a player listed earlier than that #, no trades). My goal is to buy time for Fitz and get after Marsha Brady. RD1-Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson. Premium passrush, potential unlimited. Tossup with Dareus. RD2-Jason Pinkston, OT, Pittsburgh. Get RT early--Worst OT class in 7 yrs.-- LT, RT, OG and OC exp. RD3-Jeremy Beal, OLB, Oklahoma. Beal does it all--strong side, blitz, standing pos and pass cover. RD4-Jarvis Jenkins, DE, Clemson. I'll take the Clemson bookends. RD5-Don'ta Hightower,ILB, Alabama. Great anticipation in Auburn game. Stock will rise up to April. RD6-Ryan Bartholomew, OC, Syracuse. Smart player, local draw. RD7-Terry Griffin, NT, Elizabeth City State. 6'3", 340. Intercepted a pass, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, had a sack, 4 tackles, and 2 tackles for loss all in the same game this year. My WTF pick! Astro
  19. Wait for the word on Wood and Spiller coming back, then bet the house.
  20. Exactly! http://www.drafttek.com/CMDRound1.asp http://www.drafttek.com/CMDRound2_33-48.asp
  21. Word is that Calloway (a second-rounder at one time) had difficulty in pass blocking, and was relatively slow. He was a mauler type who relied more on strength than technique while at Iowa. He was considered a decent run-blocker. Riley Reiff, an OT currently at Iowa and on our Big Board at #191, caused Calloway to have to move inside for last year's bowl game.
  22. I'm betting Ponder ends up going in the early 3rd. Our big board has him at #114. A 4th rounder might be Gabbert or Stanzi. I'll take Ponder in the 3rd if you think he's better than Brohm. Which we don't know. It's not like he'll be in there in the 4th quarter for cleanup duty vs. PGH.
  23. Congratulations to Namaan!!! The Roosevelt Years have resumed!
