Second round or third even. Just not the first, please. -
Now that you mention it...

How great would that be...too bad the chances are 1 in a few million. -

Along with you and just about everyone else here, I would be extremely p*ssed if they did that. He is NOT worth the pick at #9. That being said, we had better hope to hell he proves everyone wrong and works out. -

I completely agree with you. Way too many negative threads and comments. I know that it is impossible to regulate it, but it is so darn irritating. You don't have to be a blind optimist, but at least try not to put a negative spin on everything, guys. -
What Free Agent Would Come To Buffalo?
Philo replied to box0life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I find this topic matter to be rather stupid and pointless. I'm sure on multiple message boards across the nation, fans are griping about their team not doing anything in FA, yet Bills fans make it seem like we are the only ones that haven't done anything yet. To take a line from some song I heard, 'I wish you'd step back from that ledge, my friend'. Jeepers, doesn't Wade Smith, that lineman from KC qualify as looking at free agents? Or maybe you're too wrapped up in finding ways to criticize the Bills that you didn't notice that. In reality, just because no one has reported anything doesn't mean the Bills aren't taking a look at some guys. Unless, you have an inside guy who says everyone in One Bills Drive sits around all days twiddling their thumbs and playing Madden? Give me a break. Signings will be made, they won't be flashy by any means, but they will be guys who can fill holes. For the few weeks I have been posting here, it seems like most threads are stupid and pointless topics about the Bills sucking or being stupid or stingy and it ticks me off. Yes, I know that some people believe that as a Bills fan you have to expect the worst and whatnot, but some people just need to get a grip on things. FA doesn't end tomorrow, so by us not doing anything yet doesn't mean the world is going to end. I don't even feel the need to address the original point of FAs not wanting to come here...*sigh* Sorry for my fuming, but all the negativity has gotten to me -
A thread for mock drafts, to keep the threads to a minimum
Philo replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have been pretty bored since the Bills haven't done anything in FA yet (which I am completely fine with) and have done some thinking on the draft. I'd like to modify my original mock draft based on new thoughts and outside opinions I have taken into consideration. Here goes: Round 1 - Brian Bulaga OT Iowa 6-5 314 This doesn't change. In need of LT. Round 2 - Cam Thomas DT North Carolina 6-4 331 Again no change, we need a NT as well. Round 3 - Dan LeFevour QB Central Michigan 6-3 230 I like LeFevour to much to leave him there if he is still on the board in the third. Addresses our need for a QB earlier than in my last mock. Round 4 - A.J. Edds OLB Iowa 6-4 245 By taking LeFevour in the third, my fourth round pick opens up for another priority position - OLB. I have deemed OLB more of a concern than ILB and I believe Edds would be a great fit for our 3-4. A former TE, he is described as good in coverage, reading the receivers eyes and has hands for the INT. Major contributor all 4 years at Iowa, starting last 3 of those. Strong tackler with strong character and work ethic. Sounds like the perfect Nix pick. Round 5 - Pat Angerer ILB Iowa 6-0 235 I think most everyone agrees we need to draft at least 2 LBs with the transition to 3-4. Angerer is an experienced ILB that played alongside Edds at Iowa. Has the nose for the ball and can read QB's eyes effectively. Extremely competitive and hard working, sounds like another quality guy that Nix would want. Won't be a starter right away but has good potential to develop. Round 6a - Danario Alexander WR Missouri 6-5 215 My pick here doesn't change. Not one bit. WR has become a position of need and Alexander is a good option in the later rounds. Round 6b - Shawn Lauvo OG Arizona State 6-3 301 This guy has been a rock for Arizona State, playing multiple positions along the offensive line, and has always delivered. Scouts think he is built more as a guard, but his versatility would be a huge plus for us. Another hard worker who 'has to be kicked out of the weight room'. Again, I think this is the kind of guy Nix is looking for; no nonsense hard workers who do their job. Round 7a - Daniel Te'o-Nesheim DE Washington 6-3 250 I still like a DE pick-up late, but changed my guy based on character. In my last mock, I had a guy with character issues here and after thinking about it, I think Nix will try to avoid guys like that. Te'o-Nesheim has been a solid starter, is a good hustler and is highly respected by teammates, coaches and fans alike. If he gets in the weight room, could find a spot playing DE somewhere down the line. Round 7b - Chris Brown RB Oklahoma 5-10 210 I stand by this pick. Need extra insurance at RB if ML gets suspended again. --------------- Okay, so there is my modified mock. Again, I appreciate all comments, questions and concerns. Thanks. -
A thread for mock drafts, to keep the threads to a minimum
Philo replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm going to make my first attempt at a mock draft here, so bear with me if it's a little sketchy. With FA underway now, some priorities may change so I may come back and edit this later. But for now I think this would be a decent draft. Round 1 - Brian Bulaga OT Iowa 6-5 314 I think most agree that this would be the ideal pick at #9. Hopefully, he is still there. Round 2 - Cam Thomas DT North Carolina 6-4 331 I have a feeling we won't be getting a great NT in FA so we address the need in the second. Thomas should still be there. Round 3 - Sean Lee ILB Penn State 6-2 236 I hadn't heard much about this guy, but he looks like he might be pretty good. Projected to be an ILB in a 3-4 and has good potential. Needs to stay healthy, tore an ACL in '08 and sprained the other knee this past year. Could be a steal, as some having him going as early as the late first round. (Would make 3 Penn State LBs by the way) Round 4 - Jarrett Brown QB West Virginia 6-3 224 Would like to see us take LeFevour but I doubt he is there in the fourth. Brown, even though he only has one year starting, has some upside and might be worth the mid-round flyer. Round 5 - O'Brien Schofield OLB Wisconsin 6-2 238 With Schobel pegged to move to OLB, but still pondering retirement and Maybin moving to the other end and still unproven, I feel the Bills need to draft another OLB. I think someone suggest Schofield in another draft and I think he would be a good addition as well. Round 6a - Danario Alexander WR Missouri 6-5 215 Same height and 40 time as projected #1 Dez Bryant and just 10 lbs. lighter. Don't know how much that is worth but he certainly had a good year last year and should contribute once healthy. Round 6b - Derek Hardman OT Eastern Kentucky 6-5 304 Described as quick and agile for his size and can get down the field. Plays with a mean streak and is a hard worker on and off the field. I think we would provide great depth at least. Round 7a - Clifton Geathers DE South Carolina 6-7 281 Huge guy that should work out well in a 3-4. Rush defense said to be a strength. Skipping senior season; extremely raw. Father played for Bills in early '80s. Drawback: was arrested outside a nightclub. Would be a back up anyway so worth the seventh round pick. Round 7b - Chris Brown RB Oklahoma 5-10 210 With all the commotion with our current RB situation, why not bring in another back? If ML gets suspended again we are going to need another back to take some of the load off of FJ. Pluses: good reciever, good vision, strong character. Drawbacks: needs to improve blocking, not third down back material. Could be useful as a change of pace guy or in 2 RB sets. --------------- Hope my extra info on the lesser known guys helps. I'd appreciate any feedback as this is my first stab at a mock draft. Thanks. -
Syracuse Native Greg Paulus - QB - Buffalo Bills
Philo replied to PearlHowardman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he will end up undrafted. So in that case, bring him into camp cheap and see if he makes the roster. Would be a nice story if he made the team. -
According to you, if we don't draft our franchise guy this year we might! Seriously though, I doubt we do that bad but hey you never know. We could always trade up for a QB next year. That should make you happy, right? Haha.

I know it's been less than 24 hours, but....
Philo replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that sooner or later the Bills sign 3-4 guys, no huge names, but guys who will fill holes nonetheless. Most likely at OG/OT, LB or WR. After a dull first day though it's anyone's call at what happens next. In the end though, the draft is where the majority of our holes will most likely be filled. I have faith that Nix gets a couple of big impact players this year that come in and contribute immediately as opposed to over-hyped FA signings. -
I like your line of thought

My take on free agency....or lack there of
Philo replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is pretty fishy why we wouldn't be bringing him back, but who knows? Probably something just as simple as Gaily/Nix wanting high character players and we all know the rap on Incognito. -

Philo replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Incognito publicly stated he didn't want to come back? I hadn't heard that. Anyway, I do agree, the draft is where we should be focused. I doubt we get any big names this year in FA, as long as we get some decent contributors somewhere along the line I'm fine with that. Also, I again agree that we have better talent evaluators that should bring in good players via the draft so I'm pretty excited about that. -
Jim Schwartz and the Lions are dominating Free Agency
Philo replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haha, I won't judge. I do agree though that they should have improved through their signings so far. And yes, they still aren't going to 'dominate' anytime soon but they are showing signs of coming around at least. -
Buffalo Interested in WR Kelley Washington
Philo replied to BillsNYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think an experienced guy with size like Washington would be an asset to the team. Should be an upgrade over Reed as our slot receiver. -

Isn't the title of this thread "Jim Schwartz and the Lions are dominating Free Agency?" -
Anyone remember Sam Aiken?
-
I always liked Garcia. He might be a decent option as a stop gap guy, if that's the route we are going to take.
-
Could be useful in a one-year contract to warm the seat for Wood and mentor him as well.
-
I like McClain too, but I don't see that happening. As for Porter, I think he would be a good short term solution (how old is he?) and might be valuable as a mentor like you said. I have no idea how much he would cost though.

Great point. Think Kordell "Slash" Stewart
