  1. amazing how other teams manage to get their players locked up......... i see you couldn't even answer my question regarding their values...... sorry man, but sometimes the lowball strategy isn't the best route.........sometimes making a player feel wanted, treating them with respect, and giving them fair value will do the trick......... but like i said, keep making excuses.........
  2. well, we'll have to agree to disagree........i think 2 out of 5, is poor, not great......... he extended travis only because travis came begging for more money because he was broke.........really a no-brainer for TD......... is there anything TD has done (or not done) that you disagree with? you seem to do a lot of apologizing for a guy who hasn't been able to get his team in the playoffs for 4 seasons.........
  3. yea, lowball offers........i wonder why they didn't take them? answer me this -- do jennings and williams want more, less, or the same now compared to what they wanted in the summer?
  4. ah, your one step ahead of me.........i was going to save this one until the summer when we have a better idea of available cap dollars, but yes, i have been watching the "josh reed blows" comments for quite some time and biting my tongue for the most part....... i would pop a 3-4M bonus in front of josh on a 5 year deal and see if he bites.......total value of the deal -- 11-12M........ this would increase josh's cap hit by about 1M........ if josh has a breakout season, we now have him locked in long-term at a bargain rate......... flame away boys, flame away.........and then watch josh go out, have a great season, and walk out our door while you all cry "we just can't afford him......he's greedy".........
  5. huge chunk? a nice signing bonus is all it would have taken........that is the most important number, and that is then prorated over the length of the deal, keeping the first year cap number very low....... it is obvious we missed him in '04 (you disagree?) and that, if he was signed to an extension before his breakout season, he would fit in very well with the current squad....... but hey, if you like this strategy, to each his own........like you said, it works for the pats........i just wanted to clarrify that the reason it also works for the eagles is because they lock up their good young players VERY EARLY and if they didn't do that they wouldn't have the flexiablity to let their vets go........
  6. i have given him credit on moulds and schobel.......but still, 2 out of 5 isn't a great ratio when it comes to retaining good, young talent........
  7. so your telling me peerless wouldn't have taken less before his breakout season? so your telling me winfield wouldn't have taken less to stick around but philly can convince BOTH of their corners to sign very reasonable extensions? sorry man, i ain't buying it........it's not about the money they signed for, but what we could have got them for a year or two years in advance of their contracts expiring.......teams like the eagles pull deals like this all the time and don't overpay........it's all about getting to them before they have breakout seasons.........to late on clements by the way - he's already had his breakout year.........
  8. because he didn't do it with peerless, winfield, or jennings.......
  9. i think this is where we disagree........i would rather not have to "hold the line" vs. guys like this.........i would rather see guys like this offered deals WELL IN ADVANCE of their impending free agency........this is what the eagles do........as a result, they are not forced into inflated deals due to market pressure.........they show faith in the player, give them their fat signing bonuses early, and get them locked in to REASONABLE DEALS.....that way, you don't have to overpay for anyone........
  10. bringing in takeo, london, and posey has nothing to do with the discussion because we're talking about retaining younger players......... you just pointed to the eagles' strategy, but you only pointed to half of it.........the other half is ripping up contracts of younger players BEFORE they have become established stars in the league and giving them healthy signing bonuses to do so.........this means you don't overpay for your younger players, but you still keep them around...........TD has not shown the balls to do that as of yet, letting guys get to free agency and allowing there value to explode........if you want to let vets go because "they're greedy", you need to sign your younger players to longer deals and have them ready to step in.........that is the point......... i never said anything about screwing up the cap over one player.......i'm all for showing faith in players and giving them new deals BEFORE the carrot of free agency gets to close.........that is what the eagles do, and i think it works just fine........
  11. we have not applied that strategy with peerless, winfield, or jennings......and i think we'll see the same thing happen with clements.......as a result, we need to retain more of our older players........
  12. i haven't seen a comment from his agent or from big pat that says they are looking for 5M.......just media speculation........
  13. for an example of what to do with younger free agents, see the eagles seems to be working out just fine for them
  14. pats have one way of doing it, and it has obviously worked well......... eagles have another way of doing it, and likewise, it has also worked well....... like i said, i expect big pat to walk and i don't expect nate to get his extension......and then expect everyone to paint nate as greedy and TD as "the responsible GM", just like they are doing RIGHT NOW when it comes to big pat and jennings, and like they did with peerless and winfield....... you disagree - do you think he will sign big pat or extend nate?
  15. why do i get the feeling that TD will let big pat walk and then fail to get nate resigned??? couldn't be anything to do with his lowball style........
  16. to review, adams got 10.248M over 4 years for an average of 2.562M per year........ big pat will see a larger contract for a couple of reasons: 1) sam got his contract 2 years ago, but since that time the market has exploded for DT's...... ted washington = 14M over 4 years (3.5M average) warren sapp = 36.6M over 7 years (5.22M average) kris jenkins = 31M over 5 years (6.2M average) booger mcfarland = 31M over 6 years (5.16M average) rod coleman = 28M over 6 years (4.6M average) shaun rogers = 46M over 6 years (7.6M average) 2) sam was not in demand the way big pat will be.........there were only two teams interested in sam -- the bills and the bengals.........there will be PLENTY more teams interested in big pat, and that demand will drive the price.......
  17. jeez, and according to your post yesterday, i was already on there!! amazing how you still saw this post!! you must have superhero powers or something......well, beyond your ability to pitch dumb free agent ideas and silly trades.......
  18. make up your mind mr. consistancy........is gerald warren a top 10 DT?? haha
  19. you are entirely clueless........you claimed that henry is a top 10 back and many are of that opinion........THAT IS ALL THAT I CHALLENGED YOU ON........ he is not, no one else thinks he is, and you are still a fool.........try to stay on topic.........
  20. there old scouting reports, posted BEFORE the 2004 season.......you said he IS a top 10 back i.e. TODAY.........those blurbs are worthless........ you have nothing.........no one in their right mind thinks henry is a top 10 back today.......you can't even find a link that states that.......
  21. i think clarett (and mike williams) are two guys that will go higher then the majority expect........their results on the field speak volumes........
  22. care to attach a date to that blurb?? i think i know why your afraid to.......keep trying flunkie, you haven't found anything that agrees to your statement yet..
  23. TD could have simply declined the option come november and he only would have been responsible for the 2M buyout...... would it have been a distraction? sure, but it's not like this team isn't use to distractions.........on the other side of the coin, it would have provided bledsoe with a little extra motivation last year........
  24. why not let him play out 2004 under his old deal?? a decision was not due until november...........TD rushed it, and he screwed up........
  25. we'll see.......people change and adapt, which is what i think cowher was doing with the JR move and what TD was doing with the euhus move (a guy who is hardly known for his blocking).......i suspect we will get a "blocking" TE as well (if we do get one), but i don't think we will ignore the available "receiving" ones all together.........
