I'll bet Travis gets traded during the draft
d_wag replied to RuntheDamnBall's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
well they better have a contract worked out well in advance, given the problems we have heard regarding the arizona/henry talks........this doesn't seem like an "on the clock" type move....... -
johnathan welsh looks like he'll be able to make the switch to OLB quite easily........he ran very well at the combine and showed well in position drills.........a half year behind posey and i think he would be ready to push for the starting gig........ let's not forget that anthony davis (RB) worked out as well and i'm sure TD and MM were paying close attention, given our need there.......

i hope it is during the draft (or before).........trading him after doesn't help us at all for the 2005 season......... -
Thursday Morning - Buffalo News Reports...
d_wag replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
may fit at LG, but i'd rather have demulling or vincent why do we have to shakeup our o-line year after year? i would really like to see some consistancy from one year to the next, and yanking out the center and shuffling him around does not accomplish that.........we could be looking at 3 of the 5 being in new positions in '05.......we saw how long it took the OL to settle down last year, and i think we are headed down the same road if we switch over half of the positions around again...... sounds good to me.......he does look a whole lot better at OG and we know he isn't much of a DT.......... hopefully he has a good off-season because he is going to need to be a legit backup to make the roster this year....... sounds like a nice set of versitile backups to me.......hopefully that is all they are...... i'm more interested in MW "moving" on his contract.......we need to get that cap number down........ we need a LG.......dumulling is a very good guard.......offer him 3M a year or stop wasting his time and get vincent in here........enough with the sorry excuses...... they better move quick, seeing they are running out of options....... spring mini-camp i.e. the place where mike pullico won his starting position........you don't learn much from watching OL dance around in the spring with no pads on.......you figure it out in training camp.......or better yet, you sign legit NFL starters and give them the job opposed to letting career backups battle it out and win the job by default......... i sure hope this comes through........we need him badly.... -
they all look like bad options to me.......i still hold out hope for shelton........

The strange journey of Rick Ankiel
d_wag replied to BF_in_Indiana's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
it's like yogi said "basebal is 90% mental, the other half is physical".......sorry, couldn't resist....... seriously, i do feel bad for the kid and hope the change works out for him, after all he has been through on and off the field.......confidence is a powerful thing (just ask josh reed) and if he ever finds it again it might not be too late........ -
i still think we can get "real value" for henry.......this thing is far from over........before all is said and done we will get shelton or a 1st day draft pick........
-
well seeing they had 2 probowlers on the leftside, that would make sense.........put jones and hutch on any team and all of a sudden "the right side of XXX's line was far away the least effective direction for their backs to run".........
-
the real downside to dealing him post 2005 draft is that whatever we get won't help the team a lick in the '05 season.......i would much rather get value now then later.........
-
i agree.......regardless of whether henry is traded or not, we still need to draft/sign a backup RB.........henry being on the roster in september isn't good for either party involved.........
-
ah, i think they just wanted to talk to reyes seeing we need a backup RB.......
-
how dare they make bold steps to improve their football club!! the nerve!
-
always a blast........i'll take a team.....
-
that sounds horrible to me........i don't think either of those backups are NFL starting caliber LT's..........i'm still holding out hope that we land shelton.......if we get shelton and demulling/vincent we are sitting pretty.......
-
i think you need to be a little more specific about the round........ i don't consider a 3rd rounder like tim anderson "drafting for need"........
-
he could........ or he could grab another player at a different position who he has rated higher then those 3........see my point?
-
if we wait till the draft to address LG we could very well end up being stuck with tucker for another year..........we all know TD doesn't draft for need....... sign demulling or vincent -- instant upgrade to our starting OL and our depth........
-
pennington is their starting QB and will be for quite sometime.......are we forgetting about that huge extension he got with all the 0's on the end of it??
-
he started down the stretch at RT in '04, but only due to an injury to chris terry........ http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/235182
-
thanks piz........that makes more sense........although i'd still prefer demulling or vincent..........
-
got to have cap room to overpay........they have very little and still haven't addressed their defense..........
-
good find........womack at guard? i thought he is a tackle.........and a right tackle at that....... i hope this is just a backup plan in case the shelton deal doesn't work out.......the thought of moving big mikey to LT and downgrading him with womack doesn't impress me.........
-
that was a brilliant move on the vikes part.........winfield only counts 600K on the vikes cap for this season as it stands now........they can up that if they want and lower the remaining years, or just leave it where it is and stack up the roster around him.......that allows them the flexability to go out and get a guy like smoot to pair with him.......and if they ever want to deal winfield or even cut him, the move would have zero cap ramifications.........
-
you really need to find another source for your "news"........profootballtalk.com is not very reliable....... anyway, i do find it amazing that even two weeks later you still are too thick to see what the point of the post was........they picked chris perry over steven jackson and kevin jones along with dozens of other guys that would have helped that team at a number of positions.........if they decided to pitch rudi to the curb, obviously perry is their man in the LONG-TERM.........they are not looking for another franchise back -- that is why they took perry....... travis is looking to be a franchise back and will not take a 1 year job (he proved that when he stood firm on his demands for a new contract with the cards)........hence, if rudi was let go by the bengals (not tagged or traded) they would not have been in the market for henry and another team would have filled their need at RB with him, negating our options by one......... give that another two weeks to simmer before responding and maybe you'll finally figure it out........

Who are the free agents on defense after this year
d_wag replied to Rudyc80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
after 2005 season (3): clements, edwards, and mcgee (RFA) after 2006 season (5): fletcher, milloy, adams, posey, and kelsey after 2007 season (0): after 2008 season (1): spikes after 2009 season (2): vincent and schobel i look for a 1st day CB in the draft......that is TD's style with approaching free agents, the draft is deep at CB, and we need someone to challenge thomas and greer anyway.......i would also be working hard on extending edwards now before he has a breakout season........clements and mcgee have already upped their prices, but i'd like to see them both locked up long-term....... after the '06 season, i expect fletcher, milloy, adams, and posey will all be replaced, if not sooner........not necessarly a bad thing, as those 4 tie up a lot of cap dollars now and even more in '06......kelsey should be extended as soon as possible to give us a solid bookend on the other side of schobel for many years to come........ vincent will never see the end of his deal, but we have flexability in that he is signed through '09 and his salary stays the same the last 3 years of the deal.......i believe his signing bonus was reasonable, so he can be cut anytime after '06 with minimal cap consequences.......
