  1. if king is to be an "impact player" in his rookie year how did he last until the 5th round in a weak draft? and why would you expect 2 second day picks and an undrafted FA to eventually turn into starters? given the rate of busts in that area and their recent history, the bills will be lucky if one of those players blossums into a starter......... just curious.......did you share the same zeal for the '02 draft as well?
  2. forgot boldin........that's 5 confirmed and 3 rumoured.......
  3. i saw that too.........but i started counting them up and i can't get 10.......i think they're stretching it....... 1) sean taylor 2) santana moss 3) reuben droughens 4) terrell owens 5) javon walker? 6) jeremy shockey? 7) ray lewis? 8) ? 9) ? 10) ? who am i forgetting? i only see 4 guys who have confirmed they are holding out.......the other 3 have denied it......and the other 3 i can't even think of.......
  4. actually, it's not like that at all....... the poster was talking about a 3rd round pick now vs. a 3rd round pick later -- i would always take the pick now to get value out of the pick immediately....... with JP, it was not a matter of just using the 1st round pick last year vs. a 1st round pick this year.........the bills paid a premium to take that pick a year early - that being a 2nd and 5th round pick in last year's draft....... is a JP worth Julius Jones, Sean Ryan, and Marcus Spears? only time will tell......but is a 3rd round pick now better then a 3rd round pick next year? every time.......
  5. how about all 3 just battle it out for the job and the best man wins? i know, novel concept.......
  6. i'd rather have drafted the guy in '05, developed him on the roster for the year and get some special teams play out of him, providing valuable back-up duties for the team as opposed to waiting for a year to make the pick........
  7. albany is right -- the topic of this thread is deceptive and inaccurate....... every team is below the cap as of now.......they have been since march 2nd, which is the deadline for teams to get under for the '05 season........the only time a team is "over" the cap is the period from the superbowl to the beginning of free agency.......
  8. i believe smith is still eligible to be stashed on the developmental squad, if he cleared waivers........that would be an option as well.......
  9. pretty good? i think your under-stating his contribution by a ton.......he made starters out of 3rd AND 7th round rookies last year.......and he turned around a TB reject at LT, and we all know how desprately they've been searching for help on the line....... i think he did a fantastic job, which is why he got a new contract with the phins at almost 1M/season.......mauck won't come close to matching the production houck got out of them (excuse the rhyming)........
  10. worst case scenerio? bills fans use injuries as an excuse for failure like bengal fans seem to love to do...... the pats have proven that any injury can be overcome.......
  11. if it's a signing bonus, no -- the amount would be payable by the bills immediately and would then count against their cap if he was traded....... if it was a roster bonus, yes -- as long as they traded him before the roster bonus came due their would be no acceleration of signing bonus because no signing bonus would exist....... realistically, why would a team insert a roster bonus over a signing bonus and make it easier for the bills to match? not a chance........
  12. this doesn't make sense -- bledsoe was signed for the '04 season regardless and the option bonus wasn't due until november........that option bonus related to activating the next 3 or 4 years on the contract........so the bills could have waited until november to make their decision, but TD made comments that he didn't want the distraction mid-season.......thus, he extended him in may as opposed to waiting......... anyway, regardless of those details, it had nothing to do with bledsoe being a bill in '04 or not -- either way he was going to be on the team, new contract or playing under the old terms.........
  13. sat out with seattle for 10 games.......came back for the final 6.........traded that off-season........
  14. actually, he does get to pick and choose.......if he decides to return in week 11 (meaning there are 6 games left on the schedule) the bills do have the option to suspend him........however, he still receives credit for an accrued season because he made himself available.......sorry, that is the way it goes....... however, choosing to suspend him would make not moving him before the season look even more foolish........they would get no value for him (neither in trade or on field performance).......
  15. i think you could find just as many teams that feel he's been jerked around by the bills and can understand his position...... hopefully we don't need to find out if his threat is hollow and that something gets worked out between now and the start of the season......having him on the roster is not good for either side........
  16. i recall troy vincent took lee evans under his wing last training camp, staying late after practice to concentrate on this very subject........they worked a ton of extra hours one on one, press coverage, so that lee could learn how to beat the bump......hopefully he does the same with roscoe...... thankfully, playing in the slot, roscoe won't face near the amount of jamming that lee did playing on the outside last year.......one thing that will help him though is that, playing for miami u, they use a lot of press coverage and rolle is a big, physical corner who he faced every day in practice......
  17. he would be fined 5/8th's of his salary.......i wouldn't consider getting paid almost 500K to dress for 6 games a horrible situation........
  18. he has leverage - he can sit until week 11 and come back for the final 6 games........that counts as an accrued season and he is then a UFA.......
  19. good or not, he was undefeated as a starter.........as long as the defense, special teams, and running game play up to par, i "big ben" like performance from JP would result in the playoffs.......pittsburgh is the model that buffalo needs to follow for next year.....
  20. how do we know he's hurting for cash? perhaps he learned his lesson regarding the rookie deal and has taken care of the bonus money he received on the extension? perhaps he has secured a sizeable loan? i don't think we can make assumptions that henry is broke....... i don't view henry as being selfish.......i think he just wants to play, and that isn't going to happen in buffalo.......as a result, he's doing what he can to force a move to another club........can't say i blame him....... sitting for spite? i don't think so.......he just wants to move on, and that is his leverage in the situation -- the threat of a holdout........
  21. i don't see the point of the t-tag -- does anyone believe the bills would match an offer that clements received on the open market?
  22. and this is what i've found strange about all the chest thumping going on especially the last 2 weeks about the 5 UDFA's that made the roster last year (i believe this was tops in the league)......is that a good thing? to me it just indicates our depth is below average if that many UDFA's can crack the roster...... as well, i can't figure out why all the fuss over UDFA's from this year.......all we heard leading up to and during the draft was what a horrible class it was.....and now we're expecting rejects from that horrible class to make our roster? what does that say about our depth? don't get me wrong, we need to sign these guys to create competition on the roster, but i think expecations are too high for these guys by many here (not you lothar -- very realistic post)
  23. haha, that would make it a little easier! someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe the communication is cut when they're are 10 or 15 seconds left on the play clock........
  24. couple things: i don't recall them ever handing out 1st round picks as compensation -- do you recall any examples? jennings did not leave us with no compensation received -- the compensation for 2005 off-season losses will not be doled out until the 2006 off-season.....as it sits now, we have lost williams and jennings and gained holcomb and anderson (gandy will weigh into this as well if he receives significant playing time, as would any other free agent acquistion the bills sign between now and the end of the season)........but jennings, as a stand along, should net us a 3rd........williams the same.......if holcomb doesn't play and anderson starts 16 games we are looking at a 3rd and a 2nd day pick when viewed overall......this is the very, very small plus to the lack of free activety this off-season...... if we do receive a compensatory pick for henry it will not be until 2007 -- that's a long time to wait for value, especially considering it will likely be a 2nd day choice.....
  25. shaking up 2/5th's or 3/5th's of the oline = downgrade continuity counts for something in this league and swapping players/positions on the OL year after year is not a positive.......
