  1. the difference is shelton didn't command the first rounder you claimed he would....... on a different note, i love all these people talking up shelton now that he is on the open market........mostly the same people who have been trashing the guy the past 3 months........
  2. not a great idea.......if jerry goes anywhere, it will be to play the #3 WR spot........obviously there isn't a vacancy for that in BUF....... #4 and #5 WR's hold the most value on special teams.......jerry isn't an option there, thus doesn't have much worth as a #4 or #5 guy........
  3. the contract also includes escalators.........unlikely that willis will be scheduled for those numbers after this coming season.......
  4. moss was under contract -- despite that, he got a new deal.......his holdout worked....... ogun was not under contract, but the phins owned his rights -- he was not a UFA, but a RFA or EFA........they could have made him play out the year at chump change, like so many in his position have done in the past........he threatened to holdout, and they traded him.......he shouldn't have had much leverage, but the threat he would follow through with the holdout gave him plenty.......
  5. santana moss got paid.......o-gun also forced a trade to the bears and was rewarded with a huge deal........i'm sure there are other examples.......
  6. perhaps there just doing some advance scouting on him in case a henry deal does go down.......it's not like he's in high demand.....
  7. and what has tim anderson shown that leads the bills and many on this board to believe he can handle a starting role at DT?? what has JP shown that indicates he can handle the starting QB role?? the point is you have to play guys to find out what they are made of........jones didn't see a lot of work at RB because he had an all-pro starting ahead of him.......i'm sure they are still very high on him seeing they invested a 2nd round pick........do you have a link regarding the FB shift? again, you need to see guys play before making a determination of their success......a few years back a guy by the name of dominick davis slipped to the 4th round and then exploded on to the scene......it's not like it's impossible...... i agree.......i just wouldn't be surprised if JAX wasn't one of them given their depth at the position........
  8. let's not forget that JAX has greg jones (2nd round pick in '04) in the stable as well.........i'm sure they envision him as taylor's eventual replacement, and they may decide to find out sooner rather then later if he is the man for the job or not....... they also picked up alvin pearman in the 4th round of this year's draft.......
  9. they have to prepare "like they don't have travis".......they have no choice...... 1) he might not show up at all 2) even if he does, you need a backup around in case another starter goes down with an injury and a team wants to trade for travis you need someone willing and able to step in if travis is dealt -- tomorrow, during training camp, or six weeks into the season....... i don't think they're close on any deal for travis, but i'm not surprised they are adding their depth now in preparation for travis not being on the roster this year........
  10. i'm not assuming that.......you can put two KR's back there anyway, and it never hurts to add guys who can do more then one thing.......perhaps the bills like his ability to play RB just as much if not more then his kick return skills? mcgee went to the pro-bowl because he's the best in the game at returning.......don't mess with a good thing.......we don't need "the rams light" around here.......
  11. one of the top KRs in the league? 23.5 isn't even good enough for top 10 status.......not to mention he didn't take any to the house........ mcgee doesn't have to worry about his job, but it's not as if two guys can't line up back there anyway........
  12. i don't think boulware will command the price tag that many here seem to be throwing around -- chad brown (a comparable talent) got 4M over 2 years with 1.5M up front.......i think boulware will settle for similar dollars, with a slight upgrade possible do to his age....... that being said, i don't think he's worth it to the bills........ 1) posey isn't going anywhere with his contract (1.75M signing bonus, meaning the cap saving to cut him is only 400K) and either posey or boulware would make for an expensive backup........neither would have much value on special teams 2) the 3rd LB in buffalo is a very limited role and the player only sees about 1/2 the snaps at best........takeo and fletch see the majority of work in nickel and dime situations.......they also are both adequate as pass rushers, which doesn't leave much of an opportunity for boulware to do what he does best
  13. that is why the skins passed on winslow in the draft and took taylor instead........rather ironic that taylor ended up with rosenhaus anyway.......
  14. here is hoping it is a nate clements extension
  15. deion.........although chad johnson is gaining on him.......
  16. i don't see anyone suggesting the league take that direction.......i don't think the current rules (which all coaches agree to by the way when they sign their contract) are over-zealous in the least -- a simple logo on a jacket or sweater is all the NFL requires and I really don't think that is asking to much....... well, if that is the case, maybe nolan should call up a few of his buddies in the coaching ranks and offer to chop their salaries by 5% so that they can all have the RIGHT (which they previously gave away when they signed their contracts) to wear no NFL apparal on gameday.........something tells that nolan would be hard pressed to put his money where his mouth is....... the results speak for themselves -- the NFL is the most profitable of the big 4 and a big reason why they are is because they market the game extremely well.......maybe hockey and basketball could learn something from the NFL in that regard...... and, oh yeah, get fuzzy rocks!!
  17. not to mention facing a young, unproven QB........
  18. like i said, roscoe will be facing the same nickelbacks that aiken or reed would be facing.........he doesn't change the defensive personnel based on his presense in the line-up, so your point that the bills will see more nickel coverages because roscoe is around doesn't add up....... will roscoe push safeties back more then aiken/reed would? i don't think he will intially.......he'll have to prove he can beat the bump of the nickleback (and LB's on crossing routes) before he earns the respect of the safeties in the league.......if the defense can slow him down off the line of scrimmage the threat of him beating a safety deep becomes slimmer and slimmer........if he can beat the bump consistantly AND then beat safeties deep he will begin to garner more attention and defenses will then adjust, but they may well bring the safeties up closer to the box to give him a rougher ride off the line of scrimmage.......like you said, the threat of a screen pass is also there which will also lead to teams playing closer, not farther away, from roscoe, at least until he proves he can beat guys deep...... the bottom line is roscoe needs to prove he can beat the bump before anyone backs off him.......you don't get handed respect in this league without earning it first........
  19. put any 3 WR's in the game and more often then not the defense is going to switch to a nickel.......i don't think parrish is going to force a defenses hand any more then reed or aiken would........can parrish beat a nickelback more often then reed or aiken? possibly........but either way parrish will be beating the same nickelback that reed or aiken would have been facing if they were lining up in the slot.........
  20. coaches are still allowed to wear a tie -- in fact, i remember tice wore one in a game last year........if nolan wants to look professional and wear a tie, there is nothing stopping him.........he just needs to chuck a sweater with a team logo over top of it........ nolan needs to realize that the "marketing arm" is what puts those 0's on his pay check.......if he wants to dress like his dad did 'back in the day' maybe he'd also like to get paid like his dad did 'back in the day'.......
  21. i think schobel took a hometown discount....... he got 23M over 5 years (4.6/year) with a 6.75M signing bonus.......if he waited and hit the open market, he could have easily topped those numbers and come in closer to the deal that ogunleye got from the bears -- 33.4M over 6 years (5.6/year) with a 15M signing bonus.......he would have been the top DE available in free agency and would have had alot of teams interested.....
  22. "Bills general manager Tom Donahoe is sticking to his guns. He wants at least a third-round pick in exchange for Henry, who lost his starting running back job to second-year man Willis McGahee last season." TD stated numerous times early in the off-season he wanted at least a 2nd round pick...... how is he sticking to his guns? he has obviously backed down from his intial demands.......
  23. ogden was "used and abused" by schobel -- you wouldn't want him on the roster? pace was "used and abused" by okeafor (in the playoffs no less) -- you wouldn't want him on the roster? show me a LT and i can show you a bad game they have had.........pointing out a bad day by jonas time and time again (a game he was battling through a concussion no less) is quite weak in the overall picture.......look at his entire season (and career) if you want to grade him, but harping on one game doesn't do much to support his overall play....... lucked out? give me a break.......he had MANY options...... the jets wanted him badly.......he talked to the giants and they also would have likely took him......and obviously the niners stepped up to the plate....... the fact of the matter is the price for good young LT's is 5M per year.......this has been established over the past few years and it came as no surprise when SEVERAL teams were ready to pony up that kind of cash for jonas......TD didn't think he was worth it -- good for him.......but obviously many around the league disagree with that assessment and we're willing to pay him market value..... jonas didn't get "lucky" -- he earned his contract and he got paid......it was very easy to see that was going to happen...... that is your and TD's opinion, but that is yet to be determined........if the bills go in to next season with the current trainwreck at LT and struggle at the position, they may in hindsight wish they did put up the cash to keep a good, young LT around.......they have taken the cheap route, choosing to let the more talented player walk instead of paying him market value........we'll see how it works out, but it is not the strategy that most teams use....... i would rather have a hole at LG then a hole at LT.......we all saw how many problems the LG caused last year, even though the need could have been addressed in the previous off-season by spending a few bucks on it........instead TD went the cheap route, trying to get by with scrub talent.......it took them 3 tries to get an adequate LG in the line-up, and they thought so highly of him they went out and replaced him this off-season........i sense a repeat of this failure with the LT spot this year, all because TD wouldn't spend to keep a good, young talent on the roster....... the line has taken a step back from last year.......and the scary thing is it wasn't all that good last year......
