  1. to move a player from the practice squad to the active roster......otherwise they become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.....
  2. and for those who enjoy trashing profootballtalk.com every chance they get, you might want to give them a little props for breaking this story before espn or any of the other big boys......they might get stories wrong, but they sure seem to get a fair chunk right as well.......this sure sheds some light on the "salary cap" issue mentioned by mort.........note the time this story was posted.......... POSTED 11:12 a.m. EST, December 30, 2005 SAVAGE, COLLINS ON THE OUTS IN CLEVELAND? There's growing talk in league circles that Browns G.M. Phil Savage and President/CEO John Collins are not getting along and that, by extension, the bad blood is flowing between Savage and owner Randy Lerner. Collins, a previous employee of the league office, was hired by Lerner in May 2004. The scuttlebutt in league circles is that Collin was the fall guy for the Janet Jackson Super Bowl boob flap, and that the NFL steered him in the direction of Lerner. Lerner, who was still new at the time to the whole ownership thing following his father's passing in October 2002, took a liking to Collins and put him at the top of the organization. After Butch Davis was run out of town in 2004, Lerner and Collins hired Savage away from the Ravens to serve as the new General Manager in January 2005. Less than a year later, it's apparently not working out. We're hearing that Collins has concerns about Savage's performance -- which makes no sense to us since Collins, a career marketing and advertising foof, has nothing in his background that would allow him to adequately assess whether the G.M. of a football team is doing his job well. And there's also talk that Collins quietly is in the process of hiring NFL in-house lawyer Mike Keenan to take over the salary cap management duties, which would displace current cap coordinator Trip MacCracken. The potential move is being viewed as a direct encroachment on Savage's turf, and it's prompting some to wonder whether Savage might soon be leaving the team, voluntarily or otherwise. Stay tuned.
  3. um, why not? all it takes is money.......you think ralph is too cheap???
  4. that list is from july 27........doesn't mean much now
  5. what about OG? bennie is a waste of space what about C? teague is a free agent what about WR? moulds can walk if he wants to what about CB? if nate leaves there is no replacement on the roster there are needs a lot more pressing then TE.......we still haven't even seen what everett has to offer.......there are only 3 roster spots to begin with and i can't see them cutting euhus or campbell to make room for a rookie.......
  6. i did post the information prick -- i posted the actual contracts, which are much more relevant to the conversation given that all we know about crowell's deal right now is the length and the overall amount.......the comparisons you were offered are completely off base (as i demonstrated) and hold no water......
  7. ah, those are cap values and how much players earned in '04 only (notice i pointed out '04 -- this isn't even '05 we're looking at)......if you don't understand how that relates to OVERALL CONTACT VALUE then you have no idea how the salary cap works.......
  8. what a load of crap..... posey is scheduled to count 2.1875 on the cap next year.......that is the average for crowell!!........his cap hit will likely be 1/2 to 2/3 of that number, putting him in the 1.08 to 1.44 range......therefore, even with the dead money from cutting posey, the bills will come out ahead....... try backing up some of these points your making.......they don't hold any water.......
  9. i don't know how you figure those contracts are comparable...... crowell -- 6.5M/3 years.....2.1M average suggs -- still working under rookie contract........second contract will be double what crowell got....not a relevant example when discussing extensions to contracts diggs -- signed his contact 3 years ago.......only one of this bunch that is close to the average value of crowell, but the contact is outdated anyway......2.6M average bulluck -- in second year of severely backloaded 36M/5 year contract.......7.2M average porter -- in 4th year of 22.5M/6 year deal.......3.75M average morgan -- signed extension of 28M/5 years before season.......5.6M average please stick to the facts........
  10. he didn't impress me much (showed no jump off the ball and didn't seem to have any fire in a huge game)...........it's only one game, but pretty unimpressive beyond the odd play here or there where he actually decided to try......he obviously has the skills, but it's a question of whether he has the heart and desire to play....... sounds an awful lot like a high pick of the bills a few years back.......and we all know how softy has turned out.......
  11. i don't believe the bills have the pieces on the DL to run a base 3-4........DE's don't fit the scheme and they lack a true NT........ this extension to me signals that posey (and his 2.25M cap charge) will be cut......net cap gain for the bills of 500K or so, given crowell's '06 cap charge less posey's dead money..... money well spent -- crowell will upgrade the position and save cap room in the process......
  12. looking forward to seeing the terms of the deal........ i agree this spells the end of posey.......1.75M in cap savings (500K in dead cap money -- there is going to be a lot this off-season)......
  13. absolutely.....he put on 20 pounds last off-season and that added bulk has added to his game immensely........only 26, he has finally blossumed into a legit run stuffer who can draw double teams and still make plays........he's been healthy his entire career and entering his prime.........i'd take him over an over-the-hill grady jackson any day.......he's a run stuffer, and that is exactly what this team needs........
  14. actually, if needs are addressed on the OL and DL through free agency i would be completely open minded to seeing other positions considered for the 1st round pick..... for instance, if the bills sign a guy like backus to play LT, a guy like bentley to play LG, and guys like pickett and tripplet to play DT the biggest needs will likely shift to CB and WR....... bottom line -- it is way to early to determine what position should be addressed in the 1st round.....free agency affects this decision greatly......
  15. adams will not be back.......mularky burned that bridge long ago......
  16. cap room should be devoted to OL and DL.......spending on a RB is frivilous and unnecesary......fix the line and willis will run.......
  17. why would the rams take winston when they have pace and barron?
  18. he said the same thing about pat williams last year.......i expect the same result for moulds......
  19. so who/what type of players should the bills look at in free agency this off-season?
  20. darren howard will get a contract quite similar to john abraham......he's just as much a "superstar" as john abraham....
  21. i will give you lewis for now, although i think he still has potential to breakout in the "pass rushing DT" mode (i listed him because he would be a cheaper option, which donahoe seems to love)....... however, pickett is a legit option and is enjoying a great season.........despite the fact he's been seeing double-teams frequently, he's been very disruptive and has been a force vs. the run.......the weight he added this season (to put him in the 320 range) really seems to be paying off, which indicates that the weight he was asked to lose early in his career by lovie smith may have led to his poor play early in his career........looking at replacing the run stopping that pat williams brought to the table, the bills could really use pickett.........defanite upgrade over edwards.......
  22. convince him? it's not about convincing him, it's about offering him good cash......money talks.......
  23. i'd rather see edwards go........to many injury concerns and when he has been given a chance he hasn't stepped up...... options to consider in free agency (listed in order of preference): 1) rocky bernard 2) larry tripplett 3) ryan pickett 4) grady jackson 5) damoine lewis 6) ma'ake kemoetu
  24. schobel and kelsey are too small to play DE in a 3-4........if anything, they are OLB's in a 3-4........and there in lies the problem -- it is tough to find 300 pound DE's which are required in a 3-4 defense....... conclusion -- buffalo runs a 4-3 next year once again
