  1. there is no connection......... any long-term contract that nate signs would have a first year cap number SMALLER then the current 5.9M he is on the books for in '06.......thus the bills don't need to create room to sign him long-term -- signing him long-term would create room! why the timing of the move? free agency is here in a week and we might just need some dollars considering how many improvements are needed........
  2. when a player retires the entire unamortized bonus hits the cap........treated the same as a player being released....... and in my opinion, marvin isn't even close to being done.......he could play into his late 30's the way he looks........
  3. actually, that was just media speculation -- from day one the panthers said wahle would remain at guard......
  4. that's some tricky math your using there.......
  5. both the hawks and saints are going to tie up over 7M in cap space on one interior lineman? don't see it happening in bentley's case, and not likely in hutch's case either.......that is too much money to devote to a guard or a center.......tackle you can justify, but not those two positions....... if most folks feel that those two guys will get the tag then most folks are wrong.......
  6. before you guys all jump on nate, why should the guy have any loyalty to the bills? the team has been a compete mess since he arrived and despite all the rosy comments coming out of one bills drive now it's all been said before and followed by failure.......why should he have faith that the team will turn around now? they didn't extend him when they had the chance earlier in his career so now he has the right to either collect a fat f-tag one year deal or get a long-term deal.......don't hate on the guy just because he doesn't love the bills as much as you do........
  7. the NFLPA isn't the problem.........it's the NFL owners who need to get their ducks in order........the rich boys (i.e. jerry and danny) need to get this settled and give some more revenue to the little guys........NFLPA is just sitting back and waiting for the babies to stop fighting over their toys.......once they get that sorted the CBA will be hammered out in no time.......
  8. horrible to really horrible? i think your odds are a little off...... by the way, did you say the same thing about jon jansen when he went down? he made a complete recovery from a torn achilles and started all 16 games last year, looking as domiant as ever......
  9. how did the vikes overpay? they got a high caliber DT at 13M over 3 years......6M of that was up front and the salaries are 1.4 for '05, 2.4 for '06, and 2.65 for '07.......he hadn't shown any signs of decline his last year in buffalo and, not surprisely, he looked as good as ever last year........ TD didn't need to overpay to keep pat williams.......he just needed to treat him fairly and give him a real contract offer.......the vikes did and now they are reaping to rewards.......and they didn't have to overpay to do it.......
  10. actually, moulds had his contract altered AFTER bledsoe had been released last off-season.......
  11. if clements can be traded for a 1st rounder (that's a big IF) and if that money can then be used to bring in darren howard (that's an even bigger IF) i would be all for it........i agree with the theory being tossed around that a stud on the DL is more valuable then a stud at CB.........it's not a knock against nate, as he is a star player who is one of the best at his position.......we just need to find a way to get pressure with our front four, some way or another.......this team has had to blitz constantly the past few years because that is the only way they could get a pass rush, but 4-3's like the panthers and the bears get pressure without blitzing.......that is the key and darren howard would help in that area a ton..... but like i said, those are two big IF's.......
  12. yea, i did hear the previous regime say basically the same thing..... Oct 25, 2004: Brett (Webster, NY): Jennings is out AGAIN, Price got hurt, and Mike Williams, well is maybe getting there. When do you plan on concentrating a draft on the o-line? By concentrating, I suggest our highest available choices, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds. They have been ignored far too long and they need young guys to develop. TD: After our first year here when we were hamstrung by the salary cap, we've addressed the offensive line every year and we'll continue to address it until we get it right. It's not strictly a matter of using high picks on offensive linemen as there is no guarantee that a high pick is going to be a successful pick. We will continue to work to get the offensive line the way we want it. Nov 14, 2005: Jeff Patchen (Ludlow, MA): You are obviously struggling with getting the team some offensive linemen who can do the job, what are you going to do about it the rest of the year and next year? Isn't Ross Tucker still available? Tom Donahoe: Our personnel department has done a good job of addressing the offensive line every year over the last three off-seasons. It has been addressed in the draft and with some quality free agents. We will continue to work to get our offensive line exactly where we want it. We are making progress, but we are not where we want to be. Ross Tucker was with us in training camp and did a good job for us last year, but in our estimation we had better players on the roster to keep for this season. talk is cheap.......TD admitted it was a problem, he just didn't fix it.......levy admiting it is a problem just doesn't impress me much -- anyone can see that, even TD..........i'll be impressed if he actually puts his money where his mouth is and gets us some real players......
  13. i'm sorry, but what did you get out of those comments exactly? they looked like pretty standard responses to me and basically observations that the fans have been making all year.......
  14. their is no telling if ferguson and/or williams will still be on the board at #8..........one or both could slip, just like aaron rogers and alex barron did last year, just like kenechi udeze and chris gamble did in '04, just like terrell suggs and jason witten did in '03, and so on and so on back through every draft that has ever been conducted......... we don't know what will happen with the top 7, so you can take your absolute statements and throw them in the garbage because that is all they are worth.......
  15. this was reported weeks ago.......in the buffalo news i believe.......
  16. i don't think it's likely they trade down either, but i think the point being tossed around here is that they SHOULD be working the phones and trying to slide down.......easier said then done of course....... regarding the ravs and pats comments, they are currently picking 13th and 21st respectively, but a lot can change before the draft.......if they move into the top 10 it isn't such a big leap for the texans all of a sudden.......as well, the texans could trade back to one of those spots and then trade up again closer to where they want to be with the boatload of picks they would acquire in the deal......when there are only so many suitors for the pick you can't ignore teams that are interested based soley on where they are drafting in the 1st.......that is very short-sighted.......
  17. what do you expect him to say? i did it? come on, of course he's going to plead innocence........
  18. obviously bush will be the pick if they stay put........ as for potential suitors for the first pick (and the rights to bush): packers -- green and davenport are FA's cards -- arrington has been a bust ravens -- lewis is a FA pats -- dillon is long in the tooth and they have stockpiled picks once again
  19. i actually agree - kelsay still may develop and we have much more pressing needs to concentrate on......but rebuilding the DL should be a priority, especially as we blitz less this year.......we need to generate more rush with our front 4, and a big part of that needs to come from the LDE spot.......
  20. actually, kelsay has been with the bills for 3 years..........so does that make last year his "make-or-break season"? does that mean he's broke?
  21. ahh, i thought you have been saying a trade will unequivocally NOT happen? 100% NOT an option? now your saying it is possible?? make up your mind.....
  22. it's not like a "stud DE" are easy to find........there aern't that many around to begin with, and most teams that find one wrap them up to long-term extensions before they get a sniff of free agency......same goes with CB's, although the bills are obviously looking to put that theory to the test! that being said, if mario manages to fall to us at #8 the bills would be daft not to snag him......
  23. i agree, it would be in houston's best interest to shop the pick around so they can move lower in the draft and address the real need -- OL.......they could move down to the 4-7 range, pick up a bounty of picks (likely a first rounder from next year) and still have a shot at brick....... as well, they already have davis, who signed a long-term extension not that long ago.......trading him will mean a good chunk of dead cap money.......
  24. this is why it amazes me that so many people ignore the possiblity of hutch leaving seattle.........teams don't tag guards for that very reason...if he wants to test the market he will have that opportunity........
  25. um, you didn't know that before last night? hutch has been dominant for years........ we would be lucky to land one of the two........getting both is a pipedream......
