Amen brother! For the final time...THERE IS NO REDOING MALLETT'S CONTRACT AND THE BILLS ARE NOT TRADING FOR THEIR "QB OF THE FUTURE" WITH ONE YEAR REMAINING ON HIS CONTRACT...
http://bostonherald....de_talk_for_now
This thread REALLY needs to end so we can discuss real possibilities at the QB position.

ESPN story: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8995035/san-francisco-49ers-agree-trade-alex-smith-kansas-city-chiefs-source. cites John Clayton and Jay Glazer, Fox Sports that KC traded for Smith but details can not be released until the start of the league year, 12 March. They will likely franchise Bowe and draft Joekel. Neither players effect the Bills draft.
-
Sucker move. ASk yourself why did they draft him? To be the QB in waiting behind Brady. Now Brady gets a new contract, he is expendable. I doubt they would trade him to a division foe unless they knew he is not up to the job. I would steer clear of trading for him.
-
Williams was projected as a saftey going into the draft. Chan and his gang insisted on him staying at CB. I think he will be more comfortable and succeed at safety. Coaches like to talk face to face with vets when making a position change. I want him to be a good player for the Bills.
-
I wish him well and hope he can get this fixed so he can have a long and productive life. It may no longer be in his plans but there is life after football.

I watched the QBs at the combine and the inaccuracy displayed by the prospects was disturbing. The NFL talking heads alluded to it. This QB class is looking like it will be average and have some success. It will be dependent on the offensive system if any will be a champion. Next year might be the year to draft a true QB of the future. Bills 2013 will build the defense through the draft and have a sttrong running game.
-
6 draft picks...3 on the "premium" rounds. Need new QB, LB, DB and WR. I expect 1 or 2 mid level free agent signings. Bills have enough young talent to build upon.. Need to see Marrone and staff can maximize their play. The holes you see might be plugged by change of philosophy. We will know once free agency starts March 12th.

Logical thinking is dangerous. Tread lightly my friend. Please everyone, let's wait until we have a coach that has won more than 6 games in a season before we speak their praises. And maybe not until they break the .500 mark. or maybe once they make the playoffs and win a playoff game.

I live in Indy. Die hard Bills fan. Dungy built a defense predicated on speed. Once the Colts took a lead, he turned them loose. Peyton Manning credits Caldwell's coaching in making him a successful QB. While Caldwell was a quiet man, he was respected by the team. His sin was the team got old in key positions and Manning had to miss a season. Polian knows football. I like his endorsement of Marrone.Let's look at Polian's recent track record with hiring coaches in Indianapolis.
First he hired Jim Mora. Ended up firing him. Couldn't get the job done.
Then, he hired Tony Dungy. He brought him in to turn the defense around as Peyton Manning could clearly run the offense. I don't want to hear that he won a super bowl. Peyton Manning dragged him along to win that Super Bowl. Peyton Manning won it in spite of Tony as he did a horrible job with the defense.
Then he hired Jim Caldwell. The man had the flattest affect I have ever seen out of a head coach. How he became a head coach, I have no idea. He barely ever spoke. He was fired very quickly.
As a result of all of this, I'm not so sure I'd be seeking advice on who the best head coaching candidates out there are. Polian's best hire ever was Levy and in my viewpoint, his only good hire. They should have won more Super Bowls in Indy with Peyton. Trust me, I lived in Indianapolis for Polian's tenure and have followed them closely. They didn't win more because their coaching sucked and Polian hired them.
As you can probably tell, I'm not putting much stock into this endorsement.

Rumors that the Bills are cutting ties with David Nelson and coupled with the cutting of Donald Jones and Chandler possibly the whole season leave the team short in the skill positions. The Bills with 6 draft picks, having resign their free agents and limited amount of money for other teams free agents will have to be very careful. They need help at QB, WR, ILB and DB. That does not factor in a new TE. The next 2 months will be very interesting.
-
The NFL league are having meetings in Indy along with the NFLPA. PLenty of upper management from around the leauge is here. No need to panic.
-
If the Bills do draft Patterson in the first and a QB in the second, the team will be set at the offensive skill positions for this season. That would mean that they plugged the glaring need for ILB in free agency. The rest of the draft would most likely yield depth talent. we will know in late March if the Bills will get additional draft picks (unlikely).
-
He is on the roster of the Saskatchewan Roughriders along with Drew Willy and JT O'Sullivan. he spent all last season on their injured list.

Best player available this year please. No reaching for a QB. In the 2nd round there will several QBs available. Jarvis Jones OLB, Dion Jordan DE/OLB, Cordarrelle Patterson WR or Chance Carmack OG would be a great addition to the Bills. Bray, Wilson or Glennon will be good choices in the 2nd. Best scenario is trading to the 20-25 position, pick up draft picks. Free agenct signings will indicate where the Bills will go in the mid rounds. The Bills have to get 2 or 3 difference makers and 3 solid contributers.

Barkley may be a above average QB in the NFL but I see his injured right shoulder as a red flag. He hurt it twice in college and that can hamper his career.
-
Your point is well taken but to counter it I will go out on a limb and assume the Bills wil draft a ILB early. I am not sure Nix and company have given up on Sheppard. Scott would not like to sit so you would have a younger player sit.
-
Whaley is using his little known Jedi mind tricks to confuse all as to his real intent on the draft. "These are not the QBs you are looking for......"
-
As much as signing Bart Scott appeals to me...it would be Bart Scott from 5 years ago. Signing aging vets will only be a stop gap measure. Scott os not the answer to the Bills problems. Smith would fill a need in depth.
-
I have no problem with what Whaley said. When evaluating talent, each player has strengths and weaknesses. The choice in deciding who to select is which player's strength works best in your scheme. This statement does not offer any insight, IMO, to the selection of a QB.
-
Barkley injured his shoulder against UCLA Nov 17th and it is still not healed. It was said to be a Grade 3 separation. 3 months later it has not healed enough to throw would be a red flag to some teams, Have to wait and see if he has it back to throwing shape on his pro day on March 27th. I doubt he will be drafted by the Bills. I think they are viewing other QB talent.
-
I just hope this QB draft class produces a starter for the Bills. There have been a few years (2002 and 2007) where the QBs were average at best.
-
Bills have to re-sign their own free agents and draft for depth. Spent the past 9 years trying to replace Winfield. Letting Levitre walk and drafting a replacement is what keeps a team in the middle of the pack. Keep Levitre and draft a OG as depth. Same goes for the DBs. At 8th...pick the best player on the board. No reaches. IMO, talent trumps need.

"Ogletree had also missed Georgia's first four games this season for reportedly failing drug tests, and he was suspended the first game of his freshman season as well after being arrested for stealing a track athlete's motorcycle helmet." http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2013/02/17/alec-ogletree-dui-arrest-georgia-nfl-draft-combine/1926089/. I have an open mind. I don't endorse drinking and driving but back in the dinosaur era of the late 70s I did it a few times when I was a college student. I was lucky that no one got hurt. Olgetree has other issues as noted. Talented kid but need to steer clear of. The BIlls need to ace this pick and not get a guy who can be a bust due ot off the field issues. He is a risk the Bills will not take, IMO

Too many variables to be accurate this early. There is the combine, pro days, free agency, trades and back ground investigations that teams will go through. I doubt many teams have their draft boards up and players slotted. This post was a month early.
Just How Little Draft Evaluations Mean...

That draft had plenty of first round busts, reachs and guys with questionable off field behavior. More than usual. Only a few have had sustained high levels of play. I think this years draft will yeild a core of solid starters and a few pro bowlers but no superstar.
