I was driving through Iowa 40+ years ago on my way to Omaha and went through a cloud of grasshoppers or locusts. Hundreds of them splattered on the windshield. Wipers were of no use, everyone had to pull over and turn on their four-ways. When they moved on, you scraped off what you could with paper towels or whatever you had. Disgusting 🤮

I didn’t back read this entire topic but I saw elsewhere that a sticking point in his contract negotiations was that he wanted a clause that prohibited the “franchise tag” being applied to him. Don’t know if that made it into the contract or not.

I could see a locked in percentage of the salary cap for QB’s. Just throwing numbers out here…. Say if you’re a top five player you’ll get 23% of the cap. Next tier down, 21%. Cap goes up every year, so does your pay. If Dak is locked on $60m per year and won’t budge what options does Dallas have? Find another team with lots of cap space and hope to get something for him? Before you say “who cares about Dallas”? In a couple of years when Josh’s contract comes up he’ll hopefully still be one of the top five QB’s. Will the top rate be $75-80m per year then? (Or higher?) As long as it’s other teams over a barrel it’s funny. I don’t think we’ll be laughing when it’s our turn.

Everyone is talking about the Texans. Last year they had a last place schedule, let’s see how they respond to a first place gauntlet. They’re a good team but I think we’re better.

I voted 5-8. I can see a few teams better than us but not by a lot. We’ve got 17. I think the O-line will be better. The defense is younger and will make some mistakes early in the season but will be much faster than the past few years. Training camp and Pre-season should be very interesting.

Happened today… Waiting at a red light. Light turns green, guy in front of me doesn’t move. I can see his head tilted down, he’s obviously texting. I tap my horn (didn’t lean into it, just a tap). He flips me off, drives away. Why flip someone off when you’re completely in the wrong? Just wave, do nothing, drive away, but don’t give me the bird.

So many of Josh’s interceptions were passes intended for Gabe. Hopefully the communication with the new receivers gets ironed out quickly. Initially I expect Kinkaid and Shakir to be the primary guys but as the season progresses things will be going all over the place. I think that once this offense starts to click it could be really good.

As I have no clue…. How many captains do other teams carry? (On average)

Basically quit on the Sabres during the season. He knew things weren’t working in October but did nothing to change it. Now in the playoffs he talks about leadership and effort on the Panthers. He was the freaking captain, maybe if he was leading the Sabres instead of complaining about the fans things might have been different.

I expect the Panthers to win this. But after reading what Okposo said after he left I’m rooting for the Oilers.

Paraphrasing here… The whole VH “banned” brown M&M’s thing was true but there was a great reason for it. Promoters and arenas were doing anything to book them at the time. VH would show up and the venue didn’t have the basic requirements for their stage shows. So they added the M&M clause in the contract. If they showed up and there was a bowl of M&M’s (No brown ones), everything was okay. If not, they knew the contract wasn’t followed and what they needed might not be there.

I have to believe that the Sabres players are watching these games. What’s going through their minds? Do they think they could play at this level? Individually? As a team? The entire organization is out of excuses.

The fact that Coleman returned punts in college (and played D1 B-Ball) tells me he’s elusive. Now you take that elusiveness and put it in a 6’4” 200+ pound athlete. I think with some coaching, he’ll be able to get off the line okay.

Speaking of Jets stats. I saw that the Jets are currently favored in 14 out of their 17 games this season. (Think it was a BR article). Wow

I read somewhere that the team is trying to make the contract incentive heavy. Not a ton of guaranteed money. If Tua stays healthy and plays he’ll get paid if not the team is off the hook. Obviously Tua’s agent doesn’t want that…

I’ve collected slot cars from the 60’s since I was a kid. Mainly HO Aurora Thunderjets, but anything that I just liked when I saw it. Even now, if I find anything at a garage sale I’ll grab it. My kids have no interest in them. I’m starting to thin the herd. Keep the good stuff and sell the ordinary ones.

The only scheduling I care about is no game in Miami until late November or December. The league needs to allow visiting teams to use sunshades and cooling devices regardless of what the home team does.

People laugh about these late picks but instead of negotiating and hustling for UFA’s they can just take a few shots. These are lottery tickets.
