Your argument above is that protests didn't result in any outbreaks. My counter argument was, if that is true, then there should be no problem with similar events, like sitting in a stadium watching a baseball game. It is a simple one to one comparison in terms of health risks. If one event doesn't, how do you put it, "result in the death of old people," then a similar event shouldn't "kill old people" either. Now your argument is that they both present health risks in terms of "resulting in the death of old people;" however, the motivation for the gathering is what makes it ok to kill old people? This is what is driving the national narrative right now in this country. Emotionally fragile, full of anger, and wanting to destroy everything and everyone that makes them feel the way they feel. They are the minority; however, it doesn't matter if the majority is too afraid to stand up and say, "enough." Presidential candidates should still publicly debate their policies. However, I agree that debates will probably not change the minds of too many voters. Although, after watching the debates in 2016, I couldn't bring myself to vote for either candidate for the first time in a presidential race - and I cast my first vote in 1980.

You can be a decent poster at times and, then, at other times, you are like this. It's a shame.

Honestly, I couldn't think of a more cowardly thing (politically speaking) than a presidential candidate refusing to debate his/her policies leading up to the election. Just my opinion.
