  1. Here's a little primer for you... Best Interests: How Child Welfare Serves as a Tool of White Supremacy https://www.politicalresearch.org/2019/11/26/best-interests-how-child-welfare-serves-tool-white-supremacy Apparently, a disproportionate representation of black children in foster care is a product of white supremacy, and middle aged, white, evangelical women controlling child welfare agencies are substituting their own racist views of what is best for the children by denying the placement of these children back into their biological families, under the guise of "finding them more suitable homes." And here I thought they were just trying to help the children...
  2. Now that looks awesome! I am in Savannah this week for work and now you are going to make me look for someplace that I can get some good BBQ...
  3. I have a slow cooker and I do a 6-7 lb brisket about once a month. I havn't done the burnt ends. Looking up the recipe now
  4. This is rich, after 3-1/2 years of non-stop, hysterics on the left, where Trump's every move is interpreted as a crisis of civilization or world ending proportions. I just looked up Irony in the dictionary and this is what I saw:
  5. Honestly, I haven't looked very closely at this, which, in and of itself, should give you a hint about how much credibility I give it. On the surface, it sounds pretty crazy to me.
  6. Yep. There may be evidence that Trump committed some crime, there may not be. Doesn't mean anything at all at this point. I hope it doesn't happen; however, if the grand jury does get Trump's tax returns, I wouldn't be surprised to see them "leaked."
  7. Maybe one of the attorneys on the forum can weigh in; however, I don't believe there even needs to be any level of probable cause to issue a grand jury subpoena. It still means nothing to me until I see an indictment and the evidence presented at trial. I actually don't have any problem with his returns being disclosed to a grand jury. The House request is a different story.
  8. Which is the appropriate response. You are the one that wants them released, which puts the burden on you to provide some sort of justification other than the less than brilliant, "it might show something I want it to show."
  9. Actually, no. To issue a subpoena for any particular documents in a criminal case is not, in and of itself "substantial evidence of wrongdoing." Maybe you have heard of the concept of "innocent until proven guilty?" It's been in all the papers....
  10. I would like to see your tax returns to see if you are in any position to accuse anyone else of hiding something. You probably don't have anything to hide; however, there might be something there that shows your obsession with Trump's tax returns to be somewhat hypocritical. I've found, in my experience, the most ardent crusaders often have their own issues... Could you please post a link to them for us? And if you could give us a link to all of your bank account information, that would be helpful as well. #InnocentPeopleHaveNoNeedToHideFactsAboutThemselves
  11. Well, why don't we just defund the education system and take some of those responsibilities away from you? From what I hear, defunding means to help you. While we are at it, we can do away with the teachers union. That way, we can get rid of all those semi-qualified or just bad teachers. Then we can improve training statndards to make teachers better at doing their jobs. But, most of all, we need to address the systemic racism in the teaching profession since minorities are disproportionately represented in poor performance metrics. Your party seems to think these are the answers to law enforcement. I don't know why it shouldn't be the same for the education system.
  12. Labels and perceptions of mass shooters has nothing to do with race and everything to do with psychology. First, mental illness actually is a factor in many mass shootings (with mental health issues being more prevalent the larger the scale of the shooting). Second, even when it isn't, people have a difficult time rationalizing how any sane person could commit a mass shooting. BTW: While there is no universally accepted definition of a mass shooting, in the U.S. it is generally defined as the shooting of four or more people in a single event, or related series of events. There are no government agencies that specifically track mass shootings; however there have been a number of media or author specific studies. In those studies, white men commit anywhere from 54% - 63% of mass shootings. Non-white men account for anywhere between 37% - 46%. Mass shootings are not just a white male thing.
  13. It has nothing to do with liberal or conservative. It has to do with this culture of punishment that is permeating our society right now. I feel it is reprehensible behavior to try to hurt someone socially, financially, or in any other way simply because they have a different opinion. It is hardly acting like someone is being murdered to point that out.
  14. WTF? Apparently, the entire point of my posts is somewhere in the stratosphere above your head...
  15. When you are trying to organize a large scale boycott of Goya, you are trying to hurt everyone involved with the company. Will it be effective? I doubt it. The point is, AOC and the others urging this boycott would love to put the company out of business for no other reason than the CEO said something supportive of Trump. It's purely punitive and indicative of the culture right now.
  16. Unfounded conspiracy theory accuses Wayfair of bonkers, Pizzagate-level trafficking ring https://mashable.com/article/wayfair-child-conspiracy-theory-explained/ "It boils down to this: Conspiracy theorists were purporting that the site — or third-party sellers on the site — were secretly part of a child trafficking ring. This theory appears to have started, as many do, on Reddit's r/conspiracy subreddit. Before we proceed, there is no hard evidence to support that this far-fetched theory is even remotely true. Also, child trafficking is a horrific crime and conspiracy theories like this one turn a dangerous issue into a joke, distracting from the real reasons child trafficking flourishes. It all started when a user posted a screenshot of high-priced cabinets listed on Wayfair's site on Thursday, noting that the names of some of the cabinets were the same as the names of missing children."
  17. Consumers making decisions on what to buy is an individual choice. Even if the consumer chooses not to not to purchase products from a company for that company's political or other views. That is not the the same as intentionally trying to ruin the company. If Kaepernick was blacklisted simply for his political views, then that would be wrong. If any NFL tem chose not to employ him because of the negative impact on their team, then that is an entirely different scenario and the teams would be free to look after their own financial interests. It is the difference between firing you for your political beliefs and firing/not hiring you based on the damage your behavior would do to my company. The intent is what bothers me. If your intent is to ruin somebody's life simply because you disagree with their views, then I can find nothing decent in that.
  18. Honestly, I never got the fascination with the tax returns of presidential candidates. I don't believe personal financial information should be publicized, even for those individuals seeking public office. It serves no practical purpose.
  19. I agree, it is a free country, and I am not arguing in any way that people should be prohibited from exercising their rights. I just find it difficult to understand how anyone could find any justification for trying to financially ruin someone simply for his/her political views. I might passionately disagree with you about your political views; however, I cannot imaginge wanting to ruin your life, socially, financially, or in any other way, simply because of those views.
  20. That doesn't answer my question. Would you be ok with people trying to financially ruin you simply because you supported Obama or Biden?
  21. Let me make it a little more personal: If you owned a business, would you have no problem with people boycotting you simply because of your support for Obama or Biden?
  22. Serious question: Do you think people should have their businesses damaged simply for supporting or speaking positively about the president?
  23. Defending private property ? Taking over private and public property by force ? I'm sure warrants will be issued for these folks and their weapons confiscated soon...
  24. Nobody is denying that racism exists. I would say the racism of 2020 is not the racism of 1990, or 1960, or 1930, etc. I am more than willing to talk about legitimate issues of racism and the idea of "systemic racism" with anyone willing to have an open, honest dialogue. And, although racism has always been intertwined with issues of priviledge, the concept of "white priviledge" and the manner in which it is being used as a means of assessing blame and holding people accountable for sins they didn't commit is ridiculous. Priviledge exists in every society and has always existed in every society based on all kinds of reasons: money, status, employment, sex, race, etc. There is a brutal history in our country regarding the treatment of African Americans. However, our society has evolved since we were first founded as a country. It continues to change for the better. Not as fast as most would like; however, learned behaviors take generations to erase. I would argue that there has been greater improvements for African Americans in this country over the last 50 years than in all the time before that. There is a real dichotomy that exists in this country that, for me, places more blame on philosophies and policies than on racism: African Americans, as individuals, have more opportunities to achieve anything they desire, including to be president of this country, than they have ever had. At the same time, African American communities continue to be mired in poverty, unemployment, high crime, and lack of hope. People can occupy themselves with issues like white priviledge, systemically racist law enforcement agencies, etc., etc., etc.. Meanwhile, African American communities will continue to pay the price for a refusal to engage in honest dialogue and deal with issues that really have an impact
