Hard Knox: Dawson Knox Watch
billsfan1959 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I tend to agree, OP. It really feels as if his issues with drops are more about momentary lapses in focus and concentration, and less about hand-eye coordination. However, at least he is trying to improve and, intuitively, one would think focus / concentration would be an integral part of the training. I really like Knox and I believe he has all the physical tools to be a really good TE. I hope this training (and whatever else he may be doing to improve his catching consistency) translates into an improvement on the field. He really has to show a marked improvement this year. -
New LB Tyrell Adams making an impact at OTAs
billsfan1959 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is an article from a local writer about a new player that gives a little background history and an opinion about how Adams is doing in OTAs. You would think people would welcome any info from OTAs with the inherent understanding that any opinion offered should be viewed through the lens that it is only OTAs. Don't understand some of the reactions throughout this thread. As usual, Yolo, I appreciate the post. -

I'm with you. Not sure why people are getting riled up about this article or the title. It is Parrino's opinion that he is making an impact at OTAs. -
Is there another hurdle JA needs to hop over?

I don't believe Allen is near his peak and I don't see any evidence to support this idea that his success last year was a result of less fans in the stands... -
Craziest 77 seconds in NFL History Video
billsfan1959 replied to PrimeTime101's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember that game well. And, the very next week they came from behind and beat the Raiders with 24 unanswered points in the 4th quarter. It was a crazy two weeks....- 45 replies

Agree to a certain extent, my friend. I agree that Otto Graham cannot be in the Goat dicussion because he never did the things on the field that Brady or Manning did. However, was it because he couldn't? Or was it because the game, at that time, wasn't conducive to that type of play in design or philosphy? Graham grew up in an era when football revolved around the running game and he played in the NFL at a time when teams just started barely averaging more passing yards per game than rushing yards. I have no idea how Graham would fare growing up and playing in the modern era. But I can't say he wouldn't have been just as good. My point was less about Otto Graham and the QBs of his era as much as it was about the QBs in the era transitioning into where the NFL is now. I'm talking about a QB like Montana. I think there was still enough of a difference in philosophy, design, and rules from the play in his era (along with several other QBs) to the last 10-15 years, that it makes it difficult to truly compare them to Manning and Brady. But, IMO, Montana definitely could be in the discussion. Going back to a previous comment you made about Brady and Manning being like "coaches on the field," and how it set them apart - I absolutely agree 100%. I think the mental aspect of the QB position has become even more important given the ever increasing complexities of the game and I don't see anyone in the GOAT discussion that doesn't have that. It is one of the reasons I have been so high on Allen. I think he is an exceptionally bright young man with an intense competitive drive. I think he has the potential to be one of those coaches on the field. I have no idea if he will ever reach the point of being in the discussion of "greatest QBs;" however, he has the physical skills and mental makeup to at least foster hope for that kind of success. I think Mahommes is an amazing QB who has that potential as well. I'm not one of those who needs to diminish his abilities and accomplishments to feel better about Allen as my QB. I feel good about Allen simply based on who he is, the abilities he posseses, and the potential I see. Nothing would make me happier than to see their play over the next decade or so spark the next Brady - Manning type debate. Cheers

Certainly they could based soley on the life experiences of all of them in playing football in the eras in which they played. However, IMO, there is no way anyone could say with any degree of certainty that a QB of a past era, if raised in the modern era, couldn't be as good as as a Brady or a Manning.
-
Agree with Peyton and I think Joe Montana is in that conversation as well. As far as QBs from past eras playing in less complicated schemes - it doesn't mean they wouldn't have been just as good or even better playing in the modern era. We will never know, that is part of what makes those arguments so much fun.
-
Not really. It is difficult to compare QBs across eras as the game has evolved so much. Even when comparing those within the same era, they can be evaluated differently depending upon the criteria one chooses in defining what constitutes a great QB. To say there is no valid argument for any QB, other than Brady, as the greatest of all time is just silly.

You mean stats such as his receivers having the highest drop percentage in the league and being in the bottom of the league in getting separation and YAC...like Allen being blitzed the most in the NFL and having the lowest amount of time between the snap and pressure from the defense... like Allen being number one in the league in total percentage of passing plays in which he was blized or hurried and in which his throws were batted, dropped, or thrown away...etc....etc. QB play doesn't happen in a vacuum...

Josh Allen OTAs press conference 5/25

You are correct. I am not a fan of shaming. That is different than telling you that you are not free to do so. -

...and then shame them for those decisions -
The question was "Will there be a statistical price to pay for Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert & others who lit it up on the road on 3rd-and-long..." Josh Allen has been at the top of the league in 3rd and long passing the past two seasons: Down/Dist Cmp Att Inc Cmp% Yds TD 1D Int Rate 2019 3rd & 7-9 14 27 13 51.85 168 2 8 1 80.5 3rd & 10+ 26 44 18 59.09 361 3 14 0 108.2 2020 3rd & 7-9 13 24 11 54.17 183 2 9 1 89.4 3rd & 10+ 21 27 6 77.78 259 0 11 0 106.6 I couldn't find the splits for 3rd and long on the road vs at home; however, I did see them somewhere and they were actually better on the road - as has been his overall play. He threw for better Comp%, more Yds, more TDs, less INTs, higher Y/A, etc., etc., on the road vs at home in both 2019 and 2020. And as for overall play, if lack of crowd noise was such an advantage, then why did no other QB experience an overall improvement similar to Allen? IMHO, I do not believe Allen will regress this year. I believe he will be even better.

2012 Buffalo Bills Defining Moments
billsfan1959 replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL - 1968 was a great year for me as a Bills fan: I went to my very first game. Hard to believe memories from a 48-6 loss are good ones, but they are. -
1. Chiefs 2. Browns 3. Bills
billsfan1959 replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good post, my friend, and well thought out. I am not sure if the Browns, as a team, are better on the field this year than the Bills; however, I do think it is a legitimate argument. What is more important to me is not whether the Bills are the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd best team in the AFC, but that we can make a legitimate argument that they are one of the best teams in the AFC (and entire NFL), and capable of reaching and winning a Superbowl. I have been a die hard fan of this team since the late 60s and lived through relatively few seasons in that span (53 yrs) in which that argument was a legitimate one. It's a nice feeling to have again. I am hoping it stays around for a long time. -

Beane compensatory picks...he's clever
billsfan1959 replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So much can happen before the cutdown to the final roster spots. However, barring something unforseen, I agree with respect to Addison. I really would be surprised if he is not on the roster, and, to be honest, I think he is even more valuable after drafting Rousseau and Basham. Any way we analyze this, there are, potentially, going to be some difficult decsions regarding the final roster. That's a good problem to have. -
Bills 2021 Draft - Overall Assessment
billsfan1959 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree 100%. I liked Etienne; however, I would not have been happy if they had traded up to pick him (nor did I think they would). I don't believe there was an offensive skill player (certainly not at RB or TE) available at where the Bills were drafting that was going to be a "game changer" for the team this year. They needed to upgrade at DE and ability to pressure and I like what they did with those first two picks (and I know I think more highly of Basham than you do). I thought it was a solid draft from top to bottom. -
Bills 2021 Draft - Overall Assessment

I remember that discussion and never made the assertion the two were the same poster. I have no idea. Based on his posts, the feeling I always had was that he was a fan who jumped ship. Again, just my opinion and not important in any way other than how it influences how much credibility I give his posts critiquing the Bills.
