It might be true, but Arkush should never have said it. As a voter, he has an obligation to not talk about it. He admitted that all voters are instructed to not talk about their vote prior to the announcement when he says, "But one of the ways we get to keep being voters is we're not allowed to say who we are voting for until after the award has been announced...What they really mean is just don't talk about it, and the reason, in part, is because of exactly what's happened here." He also stated "Has he been the most valuable on the field? Yeah, you could make that argument, but I don't think he is clearly that much more valuable than..." When he says he doesn't think Rodgers is "that much more valuable," he is admitting he thinks Rodgers is more valuable. So by his own admission, he states he believes Rodgers was the most valuable player on the field - but, regardless, he is not going to vote for him because of criteria other than his performance on the field. By his own actions, it appears he feels he is above following established rules, obligations, and protocol. Which essentially makes him about as much of a douche as Rodgers.

The MVP Award is about the most valuable player, as in who is the best player in the NFL and most valuable to his team. It is a subjective process, but last I looked, the critria are pretty much confined to the play on the field. His numbers, as well as the fact that the team is 13 -1 this year with him on the field and 0-1 without him, put him right at the top of that list. Until they change the nature of the award and intent, that is all that matters. Aaron Rodgers might be a complete douche. It is irrelevant. IMHO, OJ Simpson is a murdering piece of s*** and should be in prison for the rest of his life. However, If you are going to ask me to vote on the best running back of all time, then he is in that discussion. The NFL has awards that exemplify sportsmanship, community involvement, and other things that center around character and behavior. The MVP Award is not one of them. If the want it to be, then they should change the criteria.

We all know that many voters of such awards allow their views on things other than on-field performance to influence their decisions - consciously or not. It's human nature. With that said, the MVP award should be based on the on-field performances of the candidates. IMO, If a voter openly states that he or she can't do that, then they should be excluded from voting. First bolded: Irrelevant to MVP voting Second bolded: Should exclude him from voting

I think recency bias is an honest argument, just as I believe there are other honest arguments why Allen will not be in the running for the MVP. IMO, there is one primary reason Allen isn't in the running for MVP and that is the 0-5 record in close games. If you look at the top 9 QBs this year, every one of them has at least 2 game winning drives - except Allen. Allen has 0 4th quarter comebacks and 0 GWD. Of 28 QBs with at least 11 starts, he is 1 of only 4 who do not have at least 1 GWD (Wentz, Mayfield, and Wilson being the others). Compare that with what he did in his previous 3 years. If Allen pulls out just two of them, Tenn and TB (where he was in a great position to do so), and, right now, he would have 2 4QC and 2 GWD, the Bills would have a 12-4 record, they would have won the AFC East, and own the #1 Seed. Even with the performance in the Atlanta game, I believe he would be in the running for MVP. But he didn't. I'm not saying that the failure to win those close games is all on Allen. What I am saying is that it is a legitimate argument to say that an MVP QB should be able to win some of those close games. As I have stated before, I couldn't care less about the MVP award, I don't believe there is a player in the NFL that is more valuable to his team, I don't believe that there is a player that any team puts more pressure on to perform at a high level every game than Allen, and IMO, he is absolutely in the conversation about the best QB in the NFL. I love Allen and I wouldn't trade him for any QB. I'm just offering what, IMO, is the best argument for why he is not in the discussion for MVP. It will all be moot when he is holding up the Lombardi Trophy...

Wonderlic Test Eliminated from Pre-Draft Process
billsfan1959 replied to Wayne Cubed's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree 100% However, I also believe any team should be able to conduct any tests they choose to measure intellect, pyschological/personality traits or issues, or any other cognitive activities/abilities they choose. My problem is with that kind of information being released publicly. -
It was sarcasm...

Wonderlic Test Eliminated from Pre-Draft Process
billsfan1959 replied to Wayne Cubed's topic in The Stadium Wall
Absolutely right. The results of any kind of "intelligence" test should be absolutely confidential and released only to those who need to know within an organization. If a player wishes to release the information, fine, but not anyone else. -

I honestly didn't even remember Grossman and the Bears going to the SB. That is hilarious!

Here are a few that were worse ratings than Allen and still won: 1. Oct. 24, 2005, Michael Vick, Falcons (11-26, 116 yds, 0 TD, 3 INTs, and a passer rating of 16.35) beat the Jets 27-14 2. Oct. 11, 2009Derek Anderson, Browns (2-17, 23 yds, 0 TD, 1 INTs, and a passer rating of 15.07) beat Trent Edwards and the Bills 6-3 3. Oct. 16, 2006, Rex Grossman, Bears (14-37, 144 yds, 0 TDs, 4 INTs, 2 fumbles, and a passer rating of 10.25) beat the Cardinals 24-23 4. October 19, 1975, Ken Anderson, Bengals (4-19, 75 yards, 0TDs, 4 INTs, and a passer rating of 3.9) beat the Raiders 14-10. Kenny Stabler went 8-24 for 113 yards, 0 TDs, 4 INTs, and a passer rating of 9.9 5. Dec. 2, 2012, Mark Sanchez, Jets (10-27, 97 yds, 0 TD, 3 INTs, a passer rating of 8.33) beat the Cardinals 6. Oct. 10, 2010, Todd Collins, Bears (6-16, 0 TDs, 4 INTs, and a passer rating of 6.25) beat the Panthers 23-6 7. Dec. 3, 2006, Rex Grossman, Bears (6-19, 34 yds, 0 TDs, 3 INTs, and a passer rating of 1.32) beat the Vikings 23-13 Rex Grossman made the list twice - in the same year 🤣 https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/2019/08/21/the-worst-quarterback-wins-games-of-the-new-millennium/

Why would you want the # 2 seed? Haven't you heard? Allen doesn't play well at home...
-
Agreed on all points. That is why I don't let a game like that cause me any concern when it comes to Allen. He may be the most physically gifted QB to play in the NFL, and possesses the football IQ, work ethic, and competetiveness to make the most of those gifts. He is still learning and continuing to grow, and he will get better and better in his decision making. But his style of play will never change, nor should it. It will result in plays like that on occasion but, in the end, it is what will make him great.

Josh - 16 games 2020 vs 2021 stats
billsfan1959 replied to First Round Bust's topic in The Stadium Wall
IMO, I see 3 primary reasons: 1. I certainly do think there have been far more weather issues this year. 2. The complete instability along the Oline this year has really caused problems in putting together any type of rhythm in the passing game. 3. There has been a concentrated effort on the part of defenses this year to keep receptions in front of them. While Allen has thrown the same number of 40+ yd TDs (8) as he did last year, the 20+ yd completions where Allen made his living last year have been greatly reduced (33 this year vs 60 last year). I believe this strategy has been more successful against Buffalo as opposed to teams like KC because of (a) the ability to get pressure on Allen with just their front four, and (b) a complete lack of any kind of running game to keep defenses honest. That is why, IMO, the games Allen has been most successful in this year have been the ones where he took what the defenses this year have been willing to give him. -

In 15 games, Beasley has 78 receptions for for 662 yards. He has a 73% catch percentage, 33 (42%) of his catches have been for 1st downs, and 294 (44%) of his yards have been YAC. His numbers haven't been quite what they were last year, you can say the same for every receiver outside of Knox. In fact, Diggs shows similar decreases in production (same statistical decreases in catch %, Y/trgt, etc) as Beasley. I think there are many contributing variables. IMO, Beasley may not have performed quite at the level he did last year, but I would hardly call him washed up. -

YAC is a real issue for the Bills this year. Of the top 9 QBs in total passing yards, all are also top 9 in YAC - except for Allen. Allen is 18th in YAC. The percentage of Allen's total yards that are YAC is significantly less than the other top QBs As far as Beasley goes, IMO, you are are off the mark. -
Thurm and Shaw - always appreciate your posts. Allen was not throwing to Beasley, he was throwing to Diggs. Here is the play and replay from the game. Here is Allen's explanation: As usual, I haven't been able to access the All 22 yet for this game. However, when I can, I will post it. My guess is that when we see the view from the endzone, we will see it was not as bad of a decision as many people think. It was the same type of play we applaud Allen for the 95% of the time that it works. Allen said as much in the video above when he said "You hate those interceptions, but those are the atta boys too where you make a good play." If you look at the trajectory from where Allen is and where the defender tipped it, it looks to me like the ball would have gotten to the back of the EZ to Diggs. Allen had Diggs breaking open and the defender made a great play, fully extending and getting his fingertips on the ball, to deflect it. IMO, if he does not tip that ball, it is a TD and we would be talking about what a great play it was.

How confident are you about the Bills going into the playoffs?
billsfan1959 replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall
I am very confident. McDermott will have this team ready and the players themselves are fully aware of what playoff football entails. If they play solid football on both sides of the ball while limiting penalties and turnovers, I believe they can beat any team they face, home or away. The only team that beats the Bills...is the Bills. While we have seen that more than we would have liked this year, I think they will bring their A game come playoffs. Go Bills! -
Right, he has talked about getting amped up. He has also said it might have affected him on the first couple of plays. That is different from what I was responding to.

In defense of Josh 3 pix and low qbr
billsfan1959 replied to First Round Bust's topic in The Stadium Wall
Oh, Mark.... -
Absolutely. In addition, it feels like some posters have this idea that, somehow, when it is a bad weather game, it only affects Allen, not the opposing QB, or, apparently, anybody else on the field...
