Upon further review ... Spencer Brown is a BALLER
billsfan1959 replied to Dan Darragh's topic in The Stadium Wall
I had put this in another thread, but it goes here. Where the Bills are right now with the OL is much different than most of the year. Their top 5 offensive linemen are Dawkins, Bates, Morse, Williams, and Brown. They have now played 18 games this year: - They have had Dawkins, Morse, Williams, Brown (4 of top 5) playing together in half of those games (9). - In those 9 games they averaged 416 YPG, 154 rushing YPG, 32 PPG, and went 6-3 - The three losses were to the Titans 34-31, Bucs 33-27 OT, and mother nature (Pats 14-10) - They played 9 games with at least one of those four missing (3 or less of top 5) - In those 9 games they averaged 358 YPG, 110 rushing YPG, 26 PPG, and went 6-3 - The three losses were to the Steelers 23-16, Jags 9-6, and Colts 41-15 - They have had Dawkins, Bates, Morse, Williams, Brown (top 5) playing together in only 4 games - In those 4 games they averaged 427 YPG, 194 rushing YPG, 35 PPG, and went 4-0 Games YPG Rush YPG PPG With less than 4 of their best OL 9 359 110 26 With 4 of their best OL 9 416 154 32 With their 5 best OL 4 427 194 35 -
Refs and bad calls have ramifications
billsfan1959 replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, the end result doesn't upset me in any way as I don't believe the whistle impacted the play. Let's hope there are no critical calls against the BIlls this week! -
Yeah, sorry about the format. Just trying to provide some numbers to support the argument that KC improved defensively across the board - which they did. This is going to be a really tough game. I think their defense has played really well over the last half of the season, and our offensive line has tremendously improved over the last 6-7 games. Clearly, IMO, the two best teams in the AFC.

IMO, it is more egregious to not enforce the rule on one play, but do so on another. The rules are the rules. If a defensive lineman inadvertently runs into a QB and knocks him to the ground after the QB clearly threw a pass that resulted in an interception, should they not enforce the rule because the lineman didn't actually mean to run into the QB and the interception would have happened anyway? I would be pissed to see a TD called back in the playoffs on an inadvertent whistle; however, I would have to agree with the call. -
Their D is better since they played the Bills and the return of Jones is a big reason. FWIW, according to Football Outsiders' DVOA defensive Rankings: Total DVOA Total DVOA Pass DVOA Pass DVOA Rush DVOA Rush DVOA Wks 1-9 Wks 10-17 Wks 1-9 Wks 10-17 Wks 1-9 Wks 10-17 Buffalo 1 5 1 4 3 16 KC 31 10 27 11 28 11 Also: Since the Bills and KC played, the Bills have given up 18.6 PPG and KC has given up 16.8 PPG

He already is one of the best pocket passers. Running is part of his game and he is much smarter about it that when he first came into the league. I don't have any more worries when he runs than with OL and DL players rolling up on him in the pocket -

I think it would have still been a touchdown. However, that really is irrelevant. The whistle blew and the play should have not counted. -
This. The only thing in which they continually excel is doing the least with the talent on their roster.

What Would You Consider a Successful Season? - Poll
billsfan1959 replied to Doc Brown's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think there is much debate about which two teams are the best in the AFC - the Bills and the Chiefs. I am confident the Bills can go into Arrowhead and win this weekend. However, if the Bills play well and lose, I would still consider this season a success. People forget just what a s*** show the offensive line was for most of this season. They have played 18 games this year: - They have had Dawkins, Morse, Williams, Brown playing together in half of those games (9). - In those 9 games they averaged 416 YPG, 154 rushing YPG, 32 PPG, and went 6-3 - The three losses were to the Titans 34-31, Bucs 33-27 OT, and mother nature (Pats 14-10) - They played 9 games with at least one of those four missing - In those 9 games they averaged 358 YPG, 110 rushing YPG, 26 PPG, and went 6-3 - The three losses were to the Steelers 23-16, Jags 9-6, and Colts 41-15 - They have had Dawkins, Bates, Morse, Williams, Brown playing together in only 4 games - In those 4 games they averaged 427 YPG, 194 rushing YPG, 35 PPG, and went 4-0 Games YPG Rush YPG PPG With less than 4 of their best OL 9 359 110 26 With 4 of their best OL 9 416 154 32 With their 5 best OL 4 427 194 35 Given what they had to deal with along the offensive line, I kinda feel like the season has been a success to this point -

You actually made two comments and both of them referenced the past success of your team. Who cares? It's like thinking about the hot girl you dated in high school while looking across the dinner table at the ugly woman you married. -

If you want to go into another team's forum to puff out your chest like this, it probably shouldn't come after the worst ass kicking your team has ever received in a playoff game. Just saying... -
Agree 100%. I will add that the team, for the most part is as healthy as they have been all season, and the Oline has finally had the opportunity to have the best five players healthy and playing together. The Bills are the most complete team in the NFL and, if they do not turn the ball over and do not commit critical penalties, they can beat any team, anywhere.
-
They are both different teams than they were in the earlier game. They are the two best teams in the AFC, both healthy, and each playing their best right now. Offensively, I give KC the slight edge, but Buffalo is much better defensively. KC will score points; however, I think the Bills can score more points against that KC defense than the KC can against the Bills defense. Tough game, but I think the Bills are the better overall team. I think the winner of this game goes to the SB

Tua and Hurts will never get to the promised land
billsfan1959 replied to ProcessTruster's topic in The Stadium Wall
Never say never... -
They are healthier than they have been all year and playing well in all phases. If this team plays to its abilities, on both sides of the ball, doesn't turn the ball over, and doesn't commit critical penalties, their potential is what we saw last night. it doesn't matter who they play or where they play.

Is McDermott in Belicheck’s head?
billsfan1959 replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall
Given Belichick's reputation as a defensive genius when it counts, the fact that, against his defense, the Bills handed him the largest margin of defeat in his playoff history - and became the first NFL team to not punt, kick a field goal, or turn the ball over.... I'd say a few thoughts are probably occupying his sinister little mind this morning.... -
Flores isn't blameless in all of this. He was a big fan of Tua and in full agreement with the pick when they drafted him - and bears some of the responsibility for bringing Tua to Miami. If Tua had such a bad work ethic, didn't Flores have the opportunity to see that all through training camp and the first 7 weeks of the season before naming him the starter? Maybe he was under some pressure from management; however, the fact that he started Fitz for 7 games before replacing him with Tua, and pulling Tua out of 2 subsequent games showed Flores still had the last word in which QB played. I have no idea if these statements about Tua are true, but Flores certainly didn't help Tua's development with the way he handled the QB situation last year and during the height of the Watson to Miami rumors. I like Flores as a coach and I think Miami made a mistake in letting him go. But he has his share of culpability in what has transpired.

Home field advantage for the playoffs - road to the SB
