They do need to add speed on both sides of the ball. However, IMO, the path to titles in Buffalo runs through Allen and the offense, the same as it does for KC with Mahomes and their offense. You continue to add more speed and talent at the skill positions around Allen and more talent on the offensive line in front of him.

People can conclude whatever they want to conclude. That wasn't my point. My point was that it is plain to see what they did. It certainly isn't that hard to figure out that mistakes were made in coaching decisions and player execution. I'm sure they had, what they felt, were good reasons, to do what they did at the time. And, I don't think there is anyone that would disagree that the players and coaches would love nothing more than to replay that entire sequence. McDermott has stated over and over that the failures start with him. He has no obligation to go into any further detail than that. It won't change anything. It won't make anybody feel any better. The only thing I care about is that McDermott, the rest of the coaching staff, and the players learn and grow from the experience. I'm sure they will.

Josh Allen knows that no matter how good he is, there will always be room for improvement. He will always look at his game with a critical eye - and he will always work his a** off to get better at whatever aspect of his game he feels needs to be better. I think they did miss White. I don't know if he would have ultimately made a difference, but he could have. In the end I look at the game this way: On Sunday night I saw a Chiefs team that played better than I have seen them play in a while and Mahomes was at the top of his game. In spite of that, Buffalo was absolutely right there with them all night long. There were 6 lead changes and neither team ever had more than a one score advantage. At the end of regulation the game was about as even as it could have been - right down to the score. The Chiefs won the toss in OT and won the game. But, I don't believe there was anyone that watched that game that believed Buffalo would not have won had they won the toss in OT. I am as disappointed as anyone over the outcome; however, in spite of the mistakes, poor decisions, etc., if what you saw on the field, from an objective point of view, does not give you a sense of optimism about the future, then I don't know what to say. I do believe that most people will see it that way once the emotion of the loss and the way they lost subsides.

The Bills finished 15th, 12th, and 11th in sacks the last three years. Hardly bottom of the league. They also finished near the top of the league each year in sack% (6th this year), hurry% (1st this year), and pressure% (1st this year). The Bills put pressure on Mahomes a number of times throughout the game and the Chiefs got pressure on Allen a number of times throughout the game. Perhaps you didn't notice the amazing athleticism of each of them in getting away from it over and over. The end of that game was an offensive exhibition you may never see again. Both Allen and Mahomes were literally unstoppable. In the end, the Bills played toe to toe with the Chiefs. The game ended in regulation tied at 36-36 with both teams being almost identical in yards and points per drive. The Bills lost the coin toss and lost the game. My guess is that they would have won the game had they won the coin toss. It doesn't mean the Bills couldn't have made some better plays, defensively at times, or that the coaches couldn't have made better decisions at times. It simply means this team was good enough as it was to beat KC. They didn't. They will continue to get better and try again next year. BTW, KC is near the bottom of the league in both pressure and sacks - and have been during their run. It hasn't seemed to stop them from winning the AFC and a SuperBowl. And before you say they have Mahomes, remember we have Allen. And, IMO, ultimately, the Bills winning the AFC and a SB is going to have much more to do with Allen and the offense than the defense, much like KC's success goes through Mahomes and the offense.

Expressing your irrational desires to make everyone pay for how you feel is your right. That is different than being justified.

Nobody can ever give guarantees on how a game will turn out. Nobody made any excuses. Nobody needs to be fired.

He doesn't need to do anything more than start looking forward to how they can learn from this and do the things that are necessary to be a better team next year. They tried their best and came up short.

A defensive play or different call from the coaches here or there and it would have ended as the second consecutive victory over them at Arrowhead. Is there anyone here who believes Allen wouldn't have taken his team down the field to score in overtime had they won the coin toss? I understand the disappointment today; but, I have no idea why people are acting like there is no possible way this team can beat the Chiefs. They will be good as long as Mahomes is their QB. The Bills will be good as long as Allen is their QB. Last night was an epic performance by the two of them in that 4th quarter. There is no reason to think the outcome can't be different the next time.

I wrote in another thread that I believe, when it comes to football, there isn't anything that can stop Allen from achieving whatever he wants to achieve. His history shows that. It also shows his journey has been less about success than the adversity and doubt he has faced in achieving it. It is a part of what makes him special and why he is a perfect QB for this team and this city. Last night was just one more instance of adversity in his journey. I have no doubt he will eventually achieve what he wants to achieve here. It is just who he is.

Well said, my friend. I truly understand the emotional reactions, as I have been a die hard fan of this team for many, many years. I just don't like when emotion moves into the realm of the irrational or, even worse, the venomous. I am also the type to set aside my emotions when evaluating information, something that has served me well in my life. Once people are able to set aside the emotions of that loss, I believe they will see that there is a lot to be optimistic about with this team, much of what you detailed above. I believe the future holds a lot of good things in store for this team.

My response was to your assertion that other teams hadn't been giving up the offensive numbers to KC that our defense did. When, in fact, as you can tell by the numbers I quoted, KC has been putting up pretty much the same numbers (yards and points per drive) the past 8 weeks or so as they did last night - and the Bills pretty much put up the same numbers against a KC defense that was, statistically, near the top of the league over the last 8 weeks or so. And my overarching point was that Mahomes and Allen were both at the top of their games last night, and that much (not all) of the struggles we observed with both defenses was due to the 2 best QBs in the NFL operating their respective offenses in that 4th quarter at a level that you may never see again. There is a reason there are so many people in sports today talking about where that game fits in among the all time greatest games. Does that mean that the Bills defense couldn't have played better at moments or that there couldn't have been better coaching decisions in certain situations? Of course not. It simply means that, IMO, what transpired in that game, defensively, had as much to do with how the QBs were playing as it did with poor defensive execution of coaching decisions. I just don't think emotional overreactions lend themselves to objective anlayses.

If you think McDermott doesn't hold himself accountable for failures, then you must not pay close attention to the type of person he is.

I don't generally watch the playoffs after the Bills are eliminated. I don't spend nearly as much time following sports, outside of my teams, as I did when I was younger. I have much better things to do with my time.

Most of us are die hard fans and our emotions go as our team goes on gamedays, and I don't think most posters here object to the desire to discuss the game or even to just vent their frustrations. I think this is more aimed at those handful of "glass always empty" posters (whose volume of posts seem to exponentially rise after losses), that take over this board with their irrational thoughts and childlike tantrums that make it almost unbearable to read through legitimate posts or try to engage in constructive dialogue.

(1) It was 552 yards that included OT (477 yds in 10 drives in regulation to 422 yds in 9 drives for the Bills) and (2) over their last 8 games, the Chiefs averaged 44 yards per drive and 3.7 points per drive and were pretty much the same last night at 50 yards per drive and 3.8 points per drive. The Bills were actually pretty much the same at 47 yards per drive and 4 points per drive. The 2 best QBs in the NFL playing their best football in that 4th quarter - maybe the best I have ever seen in a playoff game. I'm not ready to over to overreact
